Random Rita ~ Thursday Feature Fics!

Evenin’ ladies!

Once again, no fluffy bunnies, butterflies or unicorns fartin’ rainbows!

This fic had the hairs on my arms standin’ straight up from the first chapter to the end, although for two very separate reasons: 1) heart attack inducin’ angst and 2) a sexy beast of an Edward who won’t stop until he’s claimed his mate! HOT HOT HOT!!!

Jacob lovers need not apply…just sayin’!

ROB ATTACK`(banner by Sue Gilreath)

Bella wakes up in a blood stained cage in the middle of forest with no chance of escape and nowhere to hide. On the night of the full moon, she is released and given the opportunity to fight, or rather run, for her freedom. If she makes it to the road first, she can live. If they catch her before then, tonight she will die.
Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Supernatural – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 26 – Words: 160,558 – Reviews: 218 – Favs: 160 – Follows: 93 – Updated: Oct 21, 2018 – Published: Oct 5, 2018 – Status: Complete – id: 13084492

Far too many women put themselves in danger on a daily basis! Bella’s mistake was allowin’ her coworker to leave her to close up the restaurant all by herself after a couple of oblivious customers overstayed their welcome until the wee hours of the night! Needless to say, she never even made it to her car!

Bella froze. She didn’t even breathe.

She felt someone come behind her and for a second, a small second, she wanted to order herself to open her eyes and wake up, because this wasn’t possible. Things like this didn’t happen. This couldn’t be happening, not to her.

“Turn around,” Sam barked. His voice was so different that if she hadn’t been facing him, if she didn’t see the words leaving his mouth, she would have sworn someone else had spoken them.

Trembling, she slowly turned to see another man.

He stood there in silence. His black gaze never left hers, they never even blinked.

Bella shivered. The man was just as handsome as the one behind her had been, but his eyes held no life. They were empty. Dead.

They were working together, she realized. This man had been the one to torment her. He had been the one to shove her, push her. Terrify her.

Bella knew they wouldn’t let her leave. She had seen their faces. She also got the feeling that even if she hadn’t then they wouldn’t have let her leave. They wanted to hurt her.

“Please,” she breathed. “Please, don’t hurt me,” she begged, knowing it was useless, but it was all she could think of. Please don’t hurt me.

The man with the empty eyes smiled, and it was just like the rest of him, cold and unfeeling. His eyes finally left hers to meet Sam’s.

“We’re going to have some fun with her,” he said. His voice was deep and rumbling, and for the first time she saw emotion flicker in his black gaze and immediately wished she hadn’t. It was a sick type of satisfaction that sent a shiver running down her spine.

“Yes, we are,” Sam agreed from behind her. Closer.

Before Bella could even think of moving, Sam’s once soft hands gripped her upper arms with punishing fingers. His breath was hot and wet as he hissed in her ear. “Watch.”

Unable to do anything else, Bella’s eyes flickered to the man in front of her. He smirked and, to her absolute horror, he began to transform.

Like something out of a low budget horror movie, his teeth elongated, saliva dripping from the sharp fangs. His face distorted, his bones bent and cracked sickeningly. His expensive designer clothes tore as his body grew and reformed.

Bella stared, unable to do anything else, until the man with the dead eyes turned into a very dangerous and very real and gigantic wolf.

Werewolf! she screamed the word in her mind as she began to struggle, desperate to be freed. Sam didn’t let her move an inch. He forced her to watch until the transformation was complete.

This was one of his many favourite parts. The moment they realized monsters weren’t just something out of their worst nightmares, but were in fact very real. And they could do nothing to get away, nothing to save themselves.

Bella’s mind shut down. Her terror overtaking her. The only thing she could do was scream. And she did. Bella’s bloodcurdling scream lasted only seconds before she felt a sharp prick in her neck and darkness fell around her. The last thing she remembered was the cold, dead eyes of the wolf coming closer and closer and knowing she was helpless to stop them.

That, if she were lucky, she was going to die.

This fabulous fic deserves far more reviews than it has so, if you read it, leave her some love for a job very well done!

So many of you rec’d A Litany at Dusk by duskwatcher2153 that I finally caved and all I can say is WHY THE HELL DIDN’T I GET TO IT SOONER!!! Anyway, for you lurkers out there who haven’t yet discovered this incredible classic, read now!

Edward’s been a solitary vampire, hunting on the edges of society. He rejoins his family in Forks, ready to abstain and runs across a young woman praying. A choice must be made between one’s heart, one’s desires and one’s soul. Darkward ExB AU

I had spent the majority of my existence feeding on the worst dregs of humanity, the unrepentant rapists, murderers, drug-pushers and child exploiters. With each life I took, I knew some other human out there was safer for my actions. I could hear the thoughts of the evil and felt like I was cleansing the world. I thought I was bringing justice; now I recognized I had only been bringing vengeance and that there was a world of difference.

It was if a veil had been lifted from my eyes and I could see myself as the selfish, self-deluding monster that I was.

I walked to the center of the meadow and sat down. Sitting in the classic meditative pose of legs crossed and upturned hands resting on my knees, I took a deep breath, trying to clear my mind.

I couldn’t pray, but I could remember. I murmured their names with my eyes closed, seeing each face before me.

Patrick O’Malley

Chester Wainwright

Gordon Hatfield

Michael Donovan

Peter Schoonover

James Keller

Frank DeMaso

Roderic Bergen

Susan Morgan

Yolanda Jimenez

Carlos Corrida

I felt Carlisle’s presence somewhere near the middle of the list. He watched me passively from underneath the surrounding trees as I recited my way to the end. Once I had finished and bowed my head, he walked over to me and sat down, echoing my position. The names—those you’ve killed?

“It’s the only way I have to keep some part of them alive. I killed them. Shouldn’t I bear that responsibility?”

The church believes that penance without a change in behavior is empty.

“That’s why I’m here,” I whispered. “I don’t want to be the avenging angel anymore. I’m not the person for that job.”

Angels are lonely creatures.

I laughed hollowly. “Tell me about it.”

My next post will be a round-up of WIPs currently rulin’ my world! Until then…

Happy Thursday!

Thanks, sweetie. Saw Run pop up on a thread this week, I wasn’t gonna go there – blood & guts not my thing. However, w/ you’re 2 cents I’ll add it, but it will be a long time before I get to it. Read some of her AN/summary on her other stories and a couple of those sound interesting too.
I think I have almost 1,000 fics to read, with FF, Stars, the BBB list and now reading for the TwiFic Meetup. All these are kicking my ass.
But I have 2 for you:

    Dirt Roads

Trucker hats, possums, and dirt roads. Shenanigans ensue. Is there really less trouble in the country, or are the kids just better at not getting caught? ExB, AH. Story contains mature themes.

—2nd best Rockward I’ve read, loved it.– and why — the author!!
    Man Behind the Mask

What you see isn’t always what you get. By all appearances, Masen lives the life of sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll. He’s living the dream that has turned into a nightmare because his life – and his reputation – is not his own. There must be more to life than tour buses, groupies, paparazzi, and slimy record producers. AH/ExB/Rated M

I’ve read Dirt Roads, but as much as I love Drotuno, I’ve never read Man Behind the Mask. In fact I don’t *think* That I’ve ever read any RockWard fics, except for the very excellent The Lost Boys. Maybe I should rectify this?

      • oh I still need to read The Lost Boys … grrr

        • readicted

OMG, how envious I am that you have that to look forward to. It’s amongst one of the very first fics I read. When I was new to fanfiction, I was given a list a favorites and it was on the list, along with some other terrific fandom classics. I may need to revisit it one day soon.

    • both are excellent stories 🙂 love it both ..

  2. rita01tx

    Both great recs, Bevey darlin’!
Dirt Roads was my introduction to the awesome works of Iambeagle and Livie79…sure wouldn’t mind if they collaborated again as winehoes! What did you think of their AN’s? I swear they were as funny as the fic itself LMAO!
Man Behind the Mask is another Drotuno classic and I do believe I feel a reread comin’ on! Can never get enough Rockward, that’s for sure *high five!*

    • bevey99

They had me almost peeing in my pants. From the fic itself and then their AN my abs were getting a major workout. I agree they need to collab again. Sad they only did the one.

  3. I read Litany at Dusk as a WIP. Since it’s been complete I’m sure I’ve reread it, or portions of it, least six times. Excellent fic!

    • rita01tx

Well, it certainly earned the label of “classic,” Susie darlin’! Much as I enjoy the excitement and anticipation of readin’ WIPs, I’m reeeeally glad I found A Litany at Dusk after it was complete…waitin’ for updates woulda killed me DED!!!

  4. readicted

Well you know I loved A Litany Before Dawn/at Dusk. And I will definitely be adding Run to my inventory. I seem to be on an angst-Madden/darkEned tear lately. OMG it all started with Buried (Ericastwilight), then Litany, and hell, in for a penny, in for a pound right- so I read your rec, The Guard (my gah!) and then one of the gals last post mentioned finally reading Prey for the Wicked, so I absolutely HAD to do a re-read of that (still so, so good), then since I was rallying around in Aleeab4u’s playground, I read her two shot, The Divide (very good), Crimson Embrace (hot) and now, now I am finally reading Falling Beyond Remdemption.

    • rita01tx

Aleeab4u’s playground is a good place to spend quality time if you like angsty goodness, Kay darlin’! Just checked my TBR and I’ve read all her stuff except for Defrosting Edward (looks like she abandoned that one before postin’ the 3rd and final epilogue), The Gift of Home (one shot), Thorough (lost my pdf but I think it was a one shot) and You Are My Home (one shot).

      • readicted

I’m glad you are good at deciphering my auto-correct mumbo jumbo by now. I typed *angst-laden/darkWard tear. I think you managed to piece it together though. Oh, if my recollection serves…Defrosting Edward is worth the read.

        • rita01tx

Hell’n it won’t be the first WIP I ever read even knowin’ it was abandoned so I’ll have to give it a try LOL!

    • I only read her Falling Beyond Remdemption it’s excellent story 🙂

  5. eewee333

Rita my darling!! Thank you for two COMPLETE stories this week. I’ve been in LyricalKris land for the past two weeks reading all her completed stories. Wow, that girl can write!! She has over 100 stories on her account. So many wonderful stories and never enough time. Thanks again lovey!!

    • rita01tx

I’ll admit I had you in mind when choosin’ complete fics, Eewee darlin’! I’m gonna try to post separately for complete featured fics and a collection of WIPs! As for Lyricalkris, I don’t think I’ll ever catch up but I have read a good many of them! I might be partial to her Carlisle/Edward slash stories (Trouble, Trouble Follows, Trouble Ahead), though LOL!

    • readicted

So eewee , which of her fics were your favorites?

  6. dpennell007

I MIGHT try to read Run. The idea of it kind of gives me the creeps, but it IS complete.

You are talking my language with A Litany at Dusk – which I loved, and all things by Aleeab4u. She’s wonderful!

I’m definitely adding Bevey’s suggestion Dirt Roads, as I enjoy funny stories. Behind the Mask was excellent.

There are two chapters left in the one I’m reading now. It’s pretty heavy on the lemons, but it’s a good story: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4934524/1/The-List

    The List By: LauraACullen
Four weeks before her wedding to Edward, Bella is frustrated. She knows there’s little-to-no chance of getting him to bend his rules and boundaries now, but there’s no harm in fantasizing about what could happen later. So she begins compiling a list…

I forgot to mention that one of the true classic authors from my early days on FFN is reposting her stories under a new name. I remember reading some of them when I first found FF back in 2009! Welcome back Jayliewood! Now known as JeskaWood. https://www.fanfiction.net/u/11560223/JeskaWood

    • rita01tx

Very glad to see her repostin’ her fics…gives us a chance to leave her some love for all the pdfs we devoured while she was gone LOL!

  8. Thanks Rita, didn’t read any of your rec’d … but I will put them on my tbr list

    my rec are 🙂

this one is fast read and funny
After Bella’s so-called best friend rescinds her bridesmaid status via email, she does the only sane thing she can think of with her airfare credit: she puts the names of all the warm destinations she can find on a piece of paper, tacks them to the wall, and throws a dart. “I guess I’m going on a weekend trip to Cuba. And f**k her if she thinks she’s getting this pantsuit back.”
