The Essence of Edward…

We’re not talking of a man’s cologne here – although, if it could be bottled we’re sure it would have the potential to outsell even Dior Homme, and we know we’d buy it. *grins* We mean the other type of essence…the very quality that makes Edward who he is…that makes him so special, so Edward. It doesn’t matter if he has a cold, dead heart or not, what matters to us is how Edward, in whatever form we read him, gets our hearts beating.

These Edwards, their embodiment – soul, personality, intrinsic nature, life, legacy, era – do vary. But all  the diverse Edwards today, we find in fanfiction, have those requisite attributes which characterise this much loved, immortalized character. They have that “je ne sais quoi” that keeps us coming back for more, time and again! Please enjoy!

Look How You Turned Out ~ If I was going to write another story it would be something like this…

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 45 – Words: 49,861 – Reviews: 4,040 – Favs: 584 – Follows: 900 – Updated: Dec 3 – Published: Nov 6 – id: 9826376

Talk about an Edward that has that essence, that je ne sais quoi, and my mind immediately goes to Edward from Counselor’s Look How You Turned Out.

I’ve totally fallen in love with this Edward, just like I originally fell in love with Edward because he was so perfectly not perfect (no matter what SM’s Bella said).

Counselor’s LHYTO Edward is in love with Bella, but just like Originalward was so darn self-sacrificing that he chose to run off rather than hurt Bella, or give her up to Jake rather than take her away from her human life, this Edward is just as self-sacrificing, and you know what? I love that. (Up to a point, of course.)  There haven’t been many self-sacrificing Edward’s in fan fiction lately, and Counselor’s is like a breath of fresh air.

LHYTO Edward loves Bella secretly, believing he’s too old for her, or that she shouldn’t be tied down to Forks while she’s still so young. So he watches her leave, though it breaks his heart:

See, I’ve faced it. I have. Bella is in her big city days, her take on the world days, her let’s see what I can do, days. And she should be. She’s young, hell she’s brilliant. Why shouldn’t she get to take off and fly. She doesn’t need some old guy with a kid, a great kid, but someone else’s kid…she doesn’t need that. Or want it. She liked Juney but she never even thought of being a mom. She broke his heart but it couldn’t be helped. She had a right to go to college. A right to move to Chicago. She didn’t abandon us, that’s what I had to keep telling him.

See? Self-sacrificing.

But even with all that, he’s not perfect. He makes stupid mistakes just like Originalward did. Like starting a relationship with another woman just because he thought he couldn’t have Bella. And then letting that woman go on and on about their relationship possibly taking on a more serious turn, like marriage, even though he knew he didn’t care about her nearly enough for that.

“You asked if it’s serious. It is. She’s…she wants to get married.”

I stop again. “She…wants to get married,” I repeat like I’m translating. “What about you? You?”

“I’m…thinking about it.”

I make a silent ‘o,’ then take off walking again.

“That’s normal behavior, Bella. I’m being normal.”

“Great. Be normal,” I say over my shoulder as I run to my front door.

“I can count on her. She’ll stay,” he yells.

But you know what? That’s what makes this Edward so great; that he’s so silly sometimes, and so blindly in love that he doesn’t stop to think of the consequences, just like Originalward didn’t at times.

Yet he’s Edward, and so he’ll come to his senses, and just like Originalward, he doesn’t do things halfway; he does them epically:

It’s a few seconds, then it buzzes. “Marry me.”

When I don’t answer right away he texts, “Where’s your big balls now?”

I don’t answer. I think he’s joking. After all, we were joking and I texted my home made ass and he joke-texted ‘marry me.’

“Meet me in the street.” Him

I shake the balls out of my pants, odd I know, and put them on and go to the mud room and stick my feet in my boots again and put on Charlie’s big jacket.

I hurry outside and he’s halfway down his walk and we meet in the middle of the road. His hands slide into the open sides of the coat and he’s not wearing any protective weather stuff, just his t-shirt still damp from his run.

“Are you joking?” I ask right away. “You are, right?”

He doesn’t say anything.

“Was it a joke?” me

“Do you want it to be?”

“Oh no buddy. You are so going out on a limb on this one.”

“Just trying to get a reaction,” he says.

“Like…hysterical…or what?”

“Is it such a bad idea?”

“You were joking, right? You don’t use that as a test run.”

“What if I didn’t?”

“Just joking, right?”

“What if it wasn’t?”

And this here is another thing that I love about this Edward and reminds me of Originalward: he’s so darn ready to tie the knot, to jump all the way in, to stop wasting time on stupid dating and conventionalities. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I suppose in real life doing some dating before getting married makes sense, but hey, this is fiction, and just like Originalward made me swoon with how ready he was to make it forever once he’d realized he couldn’t live without Bella, LHYTO Edward makes my heart go pitter-patter too, ready to jump in with both feet once he realizes he can have the girl of his dreams. And isn’t that why we read fan fiction, for that feeling of utter and complete love that Edward originally gave us?

LHYTO Edward does the same.

Edward, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways..”

All That Jazz ~ Set in 1919. Meet orphan sisters, Bella and Alice Swan, as they journey to Chicago to meet their Aunt Esme, brazen, disowned sister of their mother. Join Bella as she learns the true meaning of marriage and love. M for adult themes and later lemons. AH/AU

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Angst – Chapters: 23 – Words: 184,134 – Reviews: 1983 – Updated: 5-30-11 – Published: 4-27-10 – Bella, Edward – Complete

A heart, full of joy and gladness,

Will always banish sadness and strife.

So always look for the silver lining,

And try to find the sunny side of life.

Look for the Silver Lining,” by Jerome Kern (1919)

(Each chapter opens with a snippet of song lyric from the era. A lovely touch!)

As the name suggests, this story is set in Chicago during the birth of the Jazz Age…radio, big-bands, motor cars, bobs, dancing, Hollywood, Flappers, prohibition, speak-easies and all that jazz. What an amazing time to have lived!

This Golden Age wasn’t all golden for everyone though; organised crime was rife, workers and women’s rights were woeful and being fought for with vigour. There was an ongoing struggle between the generations too; the willful disregard of social etiquette by youth engaging in such acts as smoking in public and – wait for it – young ladies holding men’s hands without wearing gloves! Shocking!

This is the world a sheltered Bella and Alice enter following the death of their mother Renee, who, IMHO, gave the girls an upbringing that bordered on abusive, but enough of that.  Their individual demeanor upon arrival in vibrant and bustling Chicago, to embark on a new life with the Cullens, and indeed their attitude to it, couldn’t be more different, but the sibling bond and its development within the new family dynamics was both fascinating and a pleasure to read. Not surprising given her life experience – or lack of it – Bella was wholly discombobulated by her reaction to meeting the young Edward Masen…

The young man sitting behind the piano was like nothing I had ever seen before. The light from the window wall behind him came in in golden shafts that seemed to set his hair on fire. It was the most unique shade of bronze. As he played, he kept his eyes closed and a near beatific smile on his face. He moved his upper body in time with the music, his unruly hair falling in and out of his face.

I stepped forward, wanting to get closer to the music. I kept telling myself over and over again it was the music which was drawing me in. I was so focused on the beautiful piano player, I didn’t see the plant holders lining the side of the room. My foot caught in one of the holders, causing three of the empty pots to clatter the ground. I followed quickly after.

The music stopped abruptly and too quickly I was being lifted to my feet by a pair of warm hands. I looked up into eyes the color of jade flecked with ebony and gold. They were fascinating in themselves. I had to shake my head in order to clear the haze.

“Are you alright?” he asked.

I nodded, my head feeling light.

“You took quite a spill; are you sure I can’t help you to a seat?”

I was never more ungrateful for my propensity to blush. I couldn’t help the torrent of red I felt creeping up my neck as I listened to his words and watched his mouth move. I immediately chastised myself for being so immoral as to watch a stranger’s mouth move. It was unthinkable. I vaguely recognized that he was still talking and that he had let me go; something within me that I didn’t recognize was sad not to feel his too-warm hands on me any longer.

Ooh, I think I’d be a bit discombobulated too! As when I read that scene, the wonderful, descriptive writing had me living right in the moment.

So, Edward Masen. Gah! He has what it takes, you know, that essence, he exudes that special something that makes him an Unforgettableward. He is classic Edward…just how I imagine hope a human 1919 Edward would have been: intelligent, respectful, selfless, responsible, gallant, romantic, loving and a complete gentleman – even with the newly roused desire within him. Well, maybe not a complete gentleman…;)

I recommend this story for so many reasons, not least of which is Edward, but the perfectly captured setting of one of my favourite eras too, with its social engagements, and its coming of age struggles faced by both men and women. Javamomma9021 has been creative in her spin of the original characters, showing us Edward with his parents Elizabeth and Edward Masen, and, paralleling the growth of a duckling to a swan, the growth of a Swan to a Cullen, not forgetting a Jasper as you’ve never seen him before. I also adore the slow pace of Edward and Bella’s courtship and their physical intimacy – which bizarrely I found hot!

Oh to have a time machine, whether HG Wells style or à la Marty McFly. I’d happily forgo witnessing the momentous events of history in favour of sipping iced tea on the porch swing with this Edward. Sigh!

Shine On ~ Bella Swan-Bishop, a widow and mother to a young daughter Zoe, purchases an estate – ghost included. She gets a lot more than she bargained for when she hires handsome and very interested Edward Cullen as her landscape architect. Complete

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Drama – Chapters: 36 – Words: 178,381 – Reviews: 1290 – Updated: 11-27-12 – Published: 3-7-12 – Bella, Edward – Complete

For me, Shine On is first and foremost a story of relationships, whether between friends, lovers, or family, some simple…some complicated and complex. The backdrop of a beautiful home in need of renovation and its history, businesses – mostly a joy but one a burden, and the haunting by ghosts – one in the literal sense of the word and one in the metaphorical, add layers to the story but still allows the spotlight to shine on the characters.  And what beautifully written characters they are to complement a truly beguiling story.

Bella, a grieving widow, moves with her daughter to a large, old mansion with sweeping gardens…

BPOV from Chapter 1

I would need a landscape architect to take on this large of scale of project. The garden and orchard, the remnants of the maze, the small lake, and gazebo needed much work. I needed someone with vision to make it beautiful again. I turned and looked up at the deep red brick and sandy colored stone of my enormous home built in the Queen Anne style. It even had a name it was so impressive: Edenwick Park.

It had seemed a bit foolish to my dad when I had purchased this estate, but I had wanted it desperately the first time I laid eyes on it. I could easily afford it. David had been very rich and owned his own company, which I still held the controlling shares of. I had simply sold off all our other properties we owned: the yacht, everything I knew I’d never visit or use again, and bought Edenwick. I needed something new for my daughter and I, some place without any memories of David and where I could make a new life for the two of us.

As I said, for me this story is about relationships, and naturally, the most engaging one is between Bella and her chosen landscape architect, Edward. Having said that, the beautiful bond between Edward and Bella’s daughter, Zoe, brought a tear to my eye, and runs a very close second.

Bella tells us Edward is “a good man, a man of his word- but he’s so much more. He’s a loving man, a gentle man, a gifted and talented man, and so intelligent, a deep thinker.” Let’s meet him, after Bella has enchanted him, to see if you agree he is also a sensual man, a sexy man…

BPOV from Chapter 10

“Bella, baby, it’s my desire to always be close to you,” he said roughly as he gazed into my eyes.

He then slowly lowered his head, and I felt him place his lips on the sensitive skin on my neck. He didn’t rush as he skimmed his lips and tongue up and down what surely was my favorite erogenous zone. I closed my eyes, felt the throbbing between my legs, and heard the soft moan escape my mouth.

“Delicious Bella. I could eat you up,” he said as an unsteady whisper against my ear, and I felt the tremor go down my body.

I slightly turned my head and kissed him at that perfect spot, that little hollow at the base of his throat, before slightly skimming my tongue across his skin.

I pulled his head down and whispered in his ear, “Delicious Edward. I could lick you for days.”

He swore, and then I found myself swept up in his arms, held against his thumping heart.

Oh sweet Edward, you have my heart thumping too! Now have a peek at the following chapter from Edward’s point of view. Perhaps you should sit down first in case you swoon…

She turned to me and held out her hand, and as I slid my fingers between hers and looked down at her beautiful, smiling face, I realized that my love for her wasn’t an easy, sweet love, but an all-consuming, take-your-breath-away love. Make-you-do-stupid-things-and-put-a-burn-in-the-pit-of-your-stomach love. An uncomfortable, powerful, head-spinning love. I skimmed my eyes over her face and then closed my eyes, taking a deep, calming breath. Bella, my heart called out in joy.

What an Edward!

Now, I’ve probably given you the impression that everything is permantly rosy in the garden (pardon the pun) but no, Edward and Bella have thorny issues to overcome (sorry, I’ll stop now).  It’s only realistic for Bella to have difficulty moving on from her past, but I won’t deny there were a few times when Edward was frustrated with, and confused by, Bella and her behaviour, and to be honest, so was I.  Edward, sweet and patient as he is, has some learning to do about being in a serious relationship also, but the bitter just serves to make the sweet more potent in this wonderful tale.  Oh, did I forget to mention the lemons? Edward and Bella are both extremely horny and never miss an opportunity for sex.  No surface is out of bounds, but it’s never at the expense of the plot – it’s actually quite cute!  I really enjoyed my time with these lovely and loving characters…they shine on in my memory, and I think they will do the same for you, too.

Beyond Time by TKegl

Beyond Time ~ After the Cullens leave Forks, a twist of fate lands Bella in Chicago in 1918. She thinks it’s a second chance to build a life with Edward, but when she finds him, he’s not quite what she expected. Can Bella create the future she’s hoping for?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Drama/Romance – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 38 – Words: 295,570 – Reviews: 8,136 – Favs: 6,146 – Follows: 2,641 – Updated: Jun 4, 2011 – Published: Feb 17, 2010 – Status: Complete – id: 5755522

When Cared mentioned doing a post centered on the essence of Edward, there were numerous fantastic Twifics and brilliant Edwards that came to my mind, but one that stood out, for me, was Beyond Time by TKegl. The whole story has a special essence of not only Edward, but Twilight as well. From the New Moon canon storyline of vampire Edward leaving human Bella, to the time travel back to 1918 – Edward’s year of transformation – where we get to live in a world that incorporates a 17-year-old, human, green-eyed Edward *swoon*, vampire/doctor Carlisle before Edward was in his life, Spanish influenza and more; the spirit of what we’ve all loved and held dear in Edward’s world, in the Twilight Saga world, is all there, in some way, shape or form. The essence of Edward truly lives on in Beyond Time.

The story begins six months after Edward left Bella, but this Bella is a bit different – Jake even calls her “the new and improved badass Bella” – and she says, “I’m not an idiot. I knew he was lying. He does… did… love me and left because of some twisted obligation to protect me. It broke my heart. It pissed me off.” Yes, she is bitter, but she is also stronger, at least on the outside, and more “aware.” Nonetheless, one thing that did remain the same here is her relationship with Jacob. He was her rock, her best friend and even now, he is a huge part of her life. He is also the canon Quileute werewolf, and he wants Bella to partake in a tribal ritual. That is where she learns about the “Spirit Walk” or “vision quest” which is “…supposed to put him in touch with his spirit guide… show him his path, his destiny.” When Bella takes part, she experiences not only that “rite of passage” but a whole new world of spirituality and literally goes beyond time to one week later/92 years earlier and this is what she eventually sees…

*Chapter 1*: Prologue: Of Warm Skin and Wishful

I’d never really understood the phrase “my heart caught in my throat” until that moment.

For there he was.

And he looked exactly the same.

And he looked completely different.

I stood at the gate, my trembling hand resting on the painted wood, and took in the sight of him. His hair was the reddish-brown I remembered, but instead of wildly exploding around his head, he had tamed it with some sort of gel or pomade. Still, a few rebellious locks escaped, falling over his sweaty forehead as he worked.

He had removed his jacket and tie – I could see them tossed over the porch railing – and rolled up the sleeves of his crisp, white shirt. The corded muscles of his forearms tightened and released as he worked the shovel into the garden soil. My eyes wandered down his body, capturing flashes of images in the midst of my shock – the crisp pleats on the front of his trousers, the smudge of dirt above his knee, the scuffed brown shoe pushing forcefully on the blade of the shovel.

He paused, lifting a gloved hand to his forehead, wiping away the sweat on his brow, frowning at the stubborn stump before him. Suddenly he stiffened, as if realizing he was being watched.

And he turned in my direction.

And I gasped.

I had always loved his eyes – whether they were black with thirst or amber with satiation. But these eyes were neither of those things.

I knew they wouldn’t be, that this wasn’t the Edward I knew.

Yet it still surprised me to see it in person. To see, instead of topaz or amber or black, a rich, dark green.

Carlisle had told me they’d been green.

Right now they regarded me warily, then curiously.

Still he said nothing. He just stood there, watching me. His gaze dipped down briefly before meeting mine once again. He colored slightly, a sheepish smile lighting his features.

Damn. He was checking me out.

I tried to draw a breath, but the tightness in my chest made it impossible.

I couldn’t even blame the damned corset this time.

He stood, loosely holding the shovel, and watched as I lifted the gate latch with a shaking hand, then slowly approached him. I drank him in thirstily, having been deprived of him for so long. With each step the hole in my heart constricted a little more and by the time I stood before him, it was like it never existed.

Without even realizing it, I reached out and his eyes widened in surprise. I hesitated only briefly before stroking my trembling fingers down his cheek.

His skin was not pale… not cold… not hard.

It was soft… and warm. Clean-shaven, yet his beard had started to grow back, tickling my fingers. My fingers trailed down his face to his full, pink lips.

I could feel his warm breath on my fingertips and my body burst into flames, as it always did when I was near him. Even after all this time, it remembered. Even though he was different, it remembered.

“Edward,” I whispered.

He replied quietly, “I’m sorry,” and my fingers tingled at the vibration of his mouth. Because although his voice missed the musical quality I’d come to know so well, the velvet tones still wrapped around his words in a familiar way.

His eyes locked on mine and my heart stopped again, my hand dropping to my side and a tear trickling down my cheeks at the next words to escape his lips.

“Do I know you?”

Oh, yes, my darling Edward, you know us… *wink* …and we know you, love you, covet you, and hold you dear in our hearts, now and…beyond this Twilight time. Believe me, you will not want to put down this complete and consuming story as you travel with Bella and venture into an alternative world and life through her mystical experience that transcends another time and place. It’s hard to explain the essence of it all here, but trust me…”It’s a wolf thing.” Join Bella on this adventurous and memorable journey!

Osa Bella by Myg

osa bella 2

Bella is a school counselor, but Edward is a vampire posing as a student. Will Bella defy her head and follow her heart? Or will she conquer her desire and do what she believes is right? Not your daughter’s/niece’s/little sister’s Twilight. Angsty.

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Fantasy – Chapters: 37 – Words: 185,919 – Reviews: 3577 – Favs: 2,742 – Follows: 1,785 – Updated: Sep 16, 2011 – Published: Jun 10, 2010 – Bella, Edward – Complete

It may seem strange to choose a story to review on the Essence of Edward post that is written entirely from Bella’s POV. But we fell in love with Meyer’s Edward through Bella’s eyes, and Osa Bella‘s Edward is even more intensely Edwardish than the original in my humble opinion.

I adore this story. Bella is employed at Forks High as the school psychologist. She already met, married and lost the love of her life to Afghanistan, and she’s an emotional wreck, but she’s good with the kids.  Except for one:

Then there was Edward. He was alone, aloof, bored, and usually appeared to be lost somewhere in his own head. It bothered me how he isolated himself. It wasn’t a good sign. Isolated kids are often depressed kids, the kind who one day show up in your office having taken a handful of pills, or who just stop showing up at all. He was, however, proving to be an excellent student, and had no disciplinary problems other than random smoking incidents outside on school grounds.  Some of the staff thought that marked him as a rebel. I wasn’t so sure.
I hadn’t had much interaction with Edward since that first day of school, but ever since I found myself noticing him constantly. His thick, brown hair was always a perfectly tousled mess. His eyes appeared to shift color, from black to toffee brown and back over days. He never spoke to anyone other than his family unless he was spoken to, and then he was quick to end the conversation. I wondered exactly what sort of chip he was carrying on his shoulder, given what little I understood of his ambiguous, unattached past.
What did I know about Edward? He’d been a foster child, which told me he might have been bounced around a lot as a kid. I had to guess he’d been abused or abandoned. And he had to be put in the system young—it was rare to get adopted from foster care once you were over the age of twelve. In fact it was hard to get into foster care at all once you were a teenager. He was clearly smart and obviously well mannered. Maybe he’d been adopted as a baby by the Cullens. But then, why was he so isolated and moody? Was there trouble at home? A genetic tendency towards depression or some other mood disorder?

No, Bella. He’s a vampire, hopelessly in love with you and he’s been 17 for a very, very long time.

Myg‘s Edward endures the torture of star-crossed love with great dignity and intelligence.  He is fiercely protective, dominating, tender, self-sacrificing, devoted, lustful, respectful and glorious. Bella is magnificent, but she has to go through an awful lot to grow into her mysterious magnificence; Edward follows her through every agony, subtly suggested by the author through our intimate knowledge of his essence.  Osa Bella is fanfiction at it’s optimum – I can’t think of a single reason not to read it.

*Reviews by AllyVera*

When Cared first told me about her fabulous idea of doing an “Essence of Edward” post I had a wonderful time delving into my favourites to see which of my beloved Edwards would be the best candidates.  But, before I reveal my final choices, I think I should explain what my personal “Essence of Edward” is.

When I read “Twilight” back in 2009 what I fell in love with most (yes, apart from the bronze-haired, sharp-jawed magnificence) was Edward’s inherent goodness.  And it is not that he is perfect,  because he isn’t – just that he tries his utmost to be good – to do the right thing, even if it means sacrificing his own happiness… *sigh*  That’s what made me swoon! Coincidentally, it is what drew me to Bella’s character as well.  They really were meant for each other!

So, with that in mind – I chose a couple of stories where I believe that the fanfic version of Edward truly embraces what I fell in love with all those years ago.

The Cullen Sutras ~ After a difficult breakup with her longtime boyfriend, Bella meets a sexy, but enigmatic, yoga instructor whose dedication to the art masks a hidden sorrow. Further complicating matters is his loyalty to the yogic practice of brahmacharya, celibacy! AH

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Angst – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 36 – Words: 186,863 – Reviews: 2,923 – Favs: 2,217 – Follows: 989 – Updated: May 31, 2011 – Published: May 20, 2010 – Status: Complete – id: 5983581

I think a lot of us could empathise with Bella in The Cullen Sutras when we meet her in the first chapter. She has just gone through an unexpected and humiliating break-up with her long-time boyfriend, Mike…and she is having a wallow in her misery, but her friends Alice and Rose come to the rescue by dragging her to a yoga retreat for the weekend.  Little does Bella know at this stage, that by the end of the weekend, Mike will be nothing but a distant memory.

Edward enraptures Bella (and the reader) from the moment he catches her mid-trip – pretty much as soon as she arrives at the retreat (yep, yoga will help with that clumsiness, Bella) – and from that moment on the gorgeous jade-eyed man is at the forefront of her thoughts.

Excerpt from Chapter Two (first yoga class with Edward – BPOV)

“While I initially had trouble following his instruction, I eventually got into the rhythm of the ujjayi, or “ocean,” breath that Edward described as one of the most important techniques we’d use. I was still a little self-conscious about the Darth-Vader-like sounds that were emitting from my mouth as I constricted my throat muscles, but it was strangely relaxing. I opened my eyes, which had been closed, and saw Edward smiling at me encouragingly.

“Now, we add movement,” Edward said, standing up. “One more thing before we begin this portion of the class. I’m known here for my strong assists, which means I have a very hands-on approach to the practice….”

YES, please.

“Please let me know if you are uncomfortable with physical contact and I’ll respect your space.”

NO. Thank you. Apparently, no one else had a problem either, since no one spoke up. It made sense; why someone would not want this man to lay his hands on them was beyond me. I glanced at Angela to my left. She looked as eager to have him touch her as I felt.

Bella is quite hilarious in her internal ramblings at times, but you can’t blame the girl for her thoughts! If we are honest, it’s what Edward does to us all

Just like our beloved canon Edward, Yogiward has quite a few – scratch that, a lot of – dark secrets. Secrets which he is determined never to let Bella know.  I think this is a huge amount of the reason I loved this story so much, Edward is a puzzle – an enigma.  I enjoyed peeling back each layer to get to know him better and better.

Magnolia822 has fashioned a fabulous plot that is all-human yet retains so many canon elements – which I adore.  There are moments of true angst, where my heart broke for Bella (I do love a bit of angst though) but there are also moments of intrigue, drama and a triple helping of UST!

At the end of the day though, it is Edward and his story that make The Cullen Sutras a fascinating read.  If you like your Edwards mysterious, sexy, strong, brave, a whole lot of complicated with a tortured soul – you need to read TCS (unless you already have, of course!).

To reiterate just why I loved this Edward so much, he’s kind, thoughtful, loyal, humble, brave and just downright swoonworthy!  He is the Essence of Edward and then some!

Fan Fiction, Sex Gods and Single Girls ~ After a mortifyingly awkward first meeting, fanfiction writer & new teacher, Bella, finds story inspiration in her hot-headed, player-of-a-neighbor. But she shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and she just might faint when she discovers who’s reading her latest fic! Art imitates life imitates art. A fic in a fic and a homage to this fandom. AH/Canon Couples/Humor/UST/Love & Lust

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Humor – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 70 – Words: 526,387 – Reviews: 19,185 – Favs: 4,694 – Follows: 5,672 – Updated: Nov 18 – Published: Jun 21, 2011 – Status: Complete – id: 7103047

I recently spent the past weekend immersed in the lives of this Bella and Edward.  The story is very long—821 pages as a PDF—but don’t allow the length to discourage you.  There were so many instances in this story where I laughed out loud.  The zany antics of Edward and Bella, plus their supporting cast of characters, was very refreshing.  The jokes were real and not forced, and shockingly surprising, as bannerday breathed new life into the canon storyline.  Her subtle and not-so-subtle twists and Twilight references made for a striking contrast.  I found myself thrilled with her ingenuity.  I haven’t seen a story of this magnitude in quite some time, nor had one touch me as deeply.

The premise is this:  Bella, a shy, virginal, twenty-three-year-old high school English teacher, moves to Seattle to start her new job.  Her mother and stepfather have purchased a townhome for her and Jake helps her move in.  She also writes fanfiction stories, based on her favorite novels, Stardusted, with the characters of Ethan and Stella.  Jake’s involved with Leah, which is a huge sigh of relief rather than the same tired old triangle.  The townhome is situated across the street from Edward’s, who’s a twenty-eight-year-old man-whore—he’s rich, drives a flashy car, dresses to the nines and is the most good-looking man Bella’s ever laid eyes on.  Surprise, surprise!  When Bella pulls up on moving-in day in her rusty old bomb of a pickup, backfiring and making explosive sounds, she’s unknowingly interrupting a romantic interlude for Edward and his flavor-of-the-night.  Here’s a peek at their first, also explosive, meeting:

Meanwhile, at the house across the way, and completely unbeknownst to Bella, Edward had slammed the front door of his house open violently. You would normally think of slamming a door shut, but no, he had actually slammed that door open, quite probably putting a dent into the drywall with the large, decorative doorknob as it struck.

He began striding down the front walkway that led to his driveway, curling his fists tightly into dangerous weapons as he began yelling.

“Hey! Hey, you! Hey, asshole!”

Of course the driver of the truck was oblivious as the engine noisily rumbled and chugged and sputtered. Edward could see the guy sitting in the front seat, baseball cap on his head, complacently disturbing the peace of the entire fucking neighborhood.

Edward realized too late that he had left his home wearing only the whisper-light, flowing black silk pajama pants he had pulled on. Other than that he was nude. And barefoot. His thoughts were in a whirl as he stalked down his driveway and across the roughly paved street toward the nightmare truck in his bare feet.

Just you wait… Crap! …until I get my hands on you… Ouch! …you senseless idiot… Shit! …ruining my perfectly good morning… Ow! …and forcing me… Goddammit! …to walk across… Hell! …this shittily paved street… Ahh! …in my bare feet… Sonofabitch! …until they’re good and goddamned shredded. Fuck!

He came up on the back end of the old red truck, right near the exhaust pipe and was met with two heartstopping blasts, followed by thoughts on how best to greet the idiot behind the wheel.

Fucking hell!

Oh, I am so going to deck you the minute you get out of that truck, a-hole!

Bella was just about to scream, “Will you just shut the hell up?” when she realized someone had begun banging on her door, startling her into inaction.

Edward’s yells and bangs on the door had been useless. The dude had just been sitting there in his truck, ignoring him. He couldn’t even see the guy clearly with the glare on the window. He would just have to open the door himself so he could more effectively chew the guy’s ass out.

Bella’s door was suddenly wrenched open, taking her by surprise.

Yet that was nothing compared to the string of abusive profanities that followed and absolutely stunned Bella as she

turned to climb out of the cab.

“Hey, Asshole! Get the fucking hell out of the goddamned, motherfucking, piece-of-shit, cockblocking truck!”

Bella scrambled out of the truck, looking up and facing the source of the screaming to see what was wrong and why this person was yelling at the top of his lungs.

The volatile young man, standing just outside the driver’s door and spewing the invectives, was red-faced and breathing hard as he spit the words out viciously. The vein in his forehead was bulging and throbbing as he ranted.

Suddenly his eyes widened in surprise as he yelled and looked at her more carefully.

Edward had realized two things while yelling:

First, he had noticed that the guy exiting the truck was built rather slightly; only about five and a half feet tall at the very most.

The second thing Edward had realized was that the guy was a girl.

Edward and Bella get off on the wrong foot, and it only goes downhill from there.  The hilarity of the situation is truly spot-on.  Within the course of a couple of days, Bella sees three different women leaving Edward’s house.  After some more hateful exchanges between the two of them, she decides to begin a new fanfiction story, “From Hate to Heat”, with Edward as the star.  She begins detailing the story of when she met him, with herself as Stella, and Edward as Ethan.  She can’t help but be attracted to Edward, asshole extraordinaire though he is.  I mean, who could resist Edward—or Ethan, for that matter?

*banner created by Twi-Holoic68*

How they progress from enemies to friends to lovers is a spectacular journey.  There are many more embarrassing situations, with just the right touch of angst and drama to make it more interesting.  I waited until this story was finished last week and I want to say, right here and now, that it was well worth the two years it took for completion.

I was truly engaged in the lives of these characters and felt the author showcased appropriately their maturing personalities.  The story is told in third-person, truly a favorite of mine, and bannerday really fleshes out their psyches.  She’s able to display the inner minds of both Bella and Edward, revealing the full picture instantaneously, instead of having to wait for alternate and/or overlapping points of view.

My hat’s off to you, dear bannerday, for writing such a compelling literary masterpiece, which made me laugh, cry, smile, and then laugh some more.  Please read this wonderful story and leave her some love.  Tell her “mauigirl60” sent you!

Fire & Ice by drotuno

Fire & Ice ~ FOURTH in the Gravity Series. When one of their own is threatened, the crew will have to travel halfway around the globe to get them back. What they find will have them racing against the odds to save more than just one life. AH E/B Series.

Twilight, M, English, Adventure & Romance, chapters: 12, words: 86k+, favs: 574, follows: 648, updated: 27 November published: Oct 20, Bella, Edward

So many of my friends here in fanficland know how devoted I am to the Edward from drotuno’s Gravity series. Mercward, as he’s known to his fans, stole my heart many moons ago and I don’t want it back! So, imagine my delight, after a two year break, when Deb (drotuno) announced a fourth book in the series…let’s just say there was a lot of dancing, flailing and fangirling in my kitchen that day!

For those of you who have yet to delve into this epic series, it’s an action and adventure rollercoaster. The first part was Blood & Glory, which threw Edward and Bella together in the most difficult of circumstances. Edward being a member of a mercinary group, all ex-soldiers, honourable and fierce; Bella heading up a PI business with a team of trusted and intelligent women by her side. I loved it from the first chapter. The following two stories have been equally gripping, sometimes dark, each telling a stand alone story but at the very heart of everything is the thread of deep love and the connection between Edward and Bella. Earlier this summer I reviewed them as my summer read. (Read previous review Here)

Onto the new WiP, number four, Fire & Ice …well, drotuno does not disappoint! It picks up in real time, two years on from number three, Smoke & Mirrors, and the team is as strong as ever, working together, but easing in to a break for the summer, tidying up loose ends and taking only small jobs. Unfortunately things are never that straightforward, when they fear for the safety of Carlisle, who’s on a business trip to Moscow (just so you know, this Daddy C has to be one of my favourite Carlisles in the fic world, so I’m all for them watching his back! *winks*). It seems they are right to be wary and Carlisle may just be in need of their expertise and assistance…and so the adventure begins…

The story is as tense, nerve-wracking and fear inducing as ever, but still, for me, the relationship between Edward and Bella is magical and underpins everything. Sexy as hell? Yep, that too! Beyond that, the extended family is not only believable and well written, but full of well-rounded characters who each have their place and belong in the team. They matter to me, Deb has made me care about them.

This short excerpt is about as spoiler-free as I could find, but shows the tenderness and understanding that comes from a long-term relationship.

My eyes drifted back to my husband. Throughout the years, we’d learned to trust our gut instincts. He trusted mine to the ends of the earth and back, but I relied upon his. And to see him worried about his dad was wrecking me. I wanted to pluck Carlisle and Esme out of Moscow and set them down in front of him, if only to take away the dark look on Edward’s face.

He clawed at his hair, pulling it up off his forehead.

“You’re gonna pull it all out. Go have Aunt Kate cut it, Edward. Take a break, or I’m gonna use Bethy’s hair thingys to keep it out of your eyes,” I threatened him, leaning in to kiss his cheek. “I’ve got this. And leave your phone in case your dad calls.”

His grin was every bit the combination adorable and sexy, not to mention a touch disbelieving as to whether or not I’d meant it.

“Barrettes with flowers on them, handsome. I’m not kidding,” I chortled, shoving at him until he got up.

“Bella…” he started to argue, but leaned down to kiss my lips. “Just…let me know if you find something.”

“Yes, sir,” I answered against his lips and then watched him as he left the room.

Although Deb advises reading the series in order, if you really want to, I believe that this could be read as a stand alone story. The previous stories are referenced but also explained in context. However, I do think you would be missing out on a great read if you overlooked the first three books. It’s not all lightness and fluff, there are dark moments, difficult challenges within the story lines but the relationships are strong throughout.

Here’s what drotuno had to say in her A/N at the beginning of Fire & Ice:

“…I reread the whole series myself, reread just about every review, and I wanted to step back a bit, go back to how Blood & Glory felt…and Sin & Innocence, too, if I’m still being honest. I will warn you that this is as dark as the ones before it – darker maybe – but I’m not here to rip Mercward and Sweetness apart with drama aimed at their marriage. That’s not how I work. We are stepping back into their lives just as we’ve done before, but this plot is like the ones before it – action, adventure, violence, foul language and lemony goodness (pfft! like that would change). If those aren’t your thing, then this isn’t for you. I STRONGLY suggest that you read the others before attempting to dive into this one.”

If you’ve got a long weekend and really want a good read to get your teeth into, it’s well worth the time, whether you start at the very beginning – or you’re already a Mercward devotee and want to join us every Wednesday and Sunday for Fire & Ice updates.

If you need a visual of Mercward, here he is ladies…

Tension by Ta Paixao

*made by Jamie Arkins*

*made by Jamie Arkins*

Tension ~ Take up all slack and hold on—a possible fall is anticipated. After three years of drifting alone, Edward returns to Upstate New York to see about a girl, a promise to his brother. He should have stayed hidden. EPOV. Adult content

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Drama/Romance – Chapters: 12 – Words: 23,822 – Reviews: 648 – Favs: 378 – Follows: 644 – Updated: 18h ago – Published: Sep 2 – Bella, Edward – Complete

I don’t even know where to begin with this twelve chapter story. It’s different, intriguing, incredibly well written and kinda mind-blowing. If you want cute, fluffy and a yellow brick road then avoid it like the plague! If however, you’re happy to upset your own equilibrium and take a chance, then read away. It’s well named, as Tension runs right through the story as well as Edward’s narrative.

Edward is adrift, looking for some closure and revisiting old haunts, disaffected and alone – when he meets a girl he doesn’t know if he can trust.

I pull my Sig from my waistband and clear the safety.

This is all wrong.

Alert now, I hear muffled noise from the main house to the right. Through the dirty porch screen I see the shabby yellow curtains are drawn on all four front windows. Eyes scanning, I quietly ascend the three steps and pull open the metal porch door. It creaks and whines, alerting the whole damn town that I’m here. The noise inside continues: running water, metal on metal, and maybe a voice under it all.

I cock the gun and point it at the floor in front of me. Taking one last check of my back, I grab the front door handle. It’s ripped from my hand. In it’s place stands a slim brunette dripping on the threshold with a blue towel wrapped around her body.

Her chin lifts as she scans me from the chest up. We stare at each other. Her eyes are dark, giving away nothing. Light freckles cover a slight nose against pale skin. My attention slides down to her lips when her teeth tug on the bottom one and it turns a darker shade of pink. My forefinger slides to the trigger.

“You’ll do.” She grabs my left hand and tugs me through the door.

For more than that you’ll have to read, as I really don’t want to spoil it. It’s refreshing and had me wanting to reread immediately after I finished to see what I’d missed, rethink my assumptions and just to savour the quality writing. I read the final chapter as it posted, right before going to sleep, when I awoke I was still mulling it over in my mind; it made me think. Ta Paixao wasn’t afraid to follow through on her vision and tell the story her way, I’m glad she did.

It’s not possible to count my current WIP reading list using my fingers and toes alone.  I glimpse an interesting summary, an intriguing or refreshing opening paragraph, and I convince myself it will be just one more hit…I can handle it! 🙂 Here is a quick look at three stories that I was recently powerless to resist…

True Confessions of a Coffee Girl by Deebelle1

banner made by Deebelle1

True Confessions of a Coffee Girl ~ A perfect cafe au lait was all it took for Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor to fall in love with me…the coffee girl.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 9 – Words: 20,001 – Reviews: 630 – Favs: 460 – Follows: 940 – Updated: Nov 26 – Published: Nov 1 – id: 9812023

I’m sure you have guessed it from the summary above that Bella is the lucky coffee girl, and Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor is Edward, admittedly, one of the reasons I was drawn to this fic. Perhaps I should describe Edward as lucky too, as he hit the jackpot in his personal life by placing an order for a special cup of coffee.  Bella is a creative college student who also takes her job as a barista seriously; she is intelligent, independent, quirky, and as warm as the sweet muffins she serves.  Let’s see how she captures Actorward’s eye as she literally falls hard for him…

A couple of other early risers and a few regulars came and went. I was singing along with Adele when a throat cleared behind me and caused me to jump. My foot caught on one of the mats and I fell to the ground, shrieking the whole way down.

“Are you okay?” an intense baritone voice asked.

“Yeah,” I laughed. “Happens to me all the time. Just another day in the life of a graceless swan.”

Even though I could laugh at the situation I found myself in, I couldn’t prevent the rush of blood to my skin when I looked up at the witness to my clumsiness. When our eyes met, I was lost. He was devastatingly handsome.

Mossy green eyes accompanied the sexiest voice I’d ever heard next to Vin Diesel’s. That man’s voice could melt the panties or boxers off anyone. I was confident of that. As I stood, I took in the rest of the most beautiful man I’d ever seen.

Besides those gorgeous peepers that were encased by thick eyebrows, he had a jaw line that begged to be licked. It was covered with a couple of day’s worth of whiskers that were a few shades lighter than his milk chocolate brows. His nose was crooked and had most likely been broken more than once, but it just added to his beauty. His lips were a natural and soft pink. They were plump and oh-so-kissable.

He was wearing an old and holey, but obviously loved, black t-shirt and a pair of wrinkled blue jeans. A baseball cap covered his unruly locks, and he was tall; taller than I expected him to be. But above all that, he was none other than Edward Cullen: actor extraordinaire and GQ’s most eligible bachelor. Everyone and their grandma wanted to date him. The man was sex personified…and he had just witnessed me making a fool out of myself.

It wasn’t like I even considered myself in his league. I wasn’t ugly by any means; I considered myself to be pretty average. But I wasn’t going to be walking the catwalk anytime. Like, ever. At just over five feet tall and add in my inability to walk a straight line, you would never see me on the runway, not that I wanted to be up there anyway.

After my blatant perusal of his body, I met his eyes again; the smirk on his face definitely didn’t help the blush on my face lessen. “What can I get for you?”

“I’ll have a large nonfat café au lait.”

….And so it begins.  Edward is swoon inducing!  This “mama’s boy” even brings his mother in to the coffeehouse to meet Bella – how sweet is that?  The playful banter and teasing between Coffee Girl and Eddie is fun to read as they fall hard and fast for each other.  To date, they have only shared kisses.  Actually, that’s a poor turn of phrase to use, as there is nothing only about those amazing, toe-curling, sensual kisses.

According to Deebelle1, “This is mainly a fluffy romance. There will be small bits of angst but it’s not drawn out…I’m an angst wimp, too. You’ll have a little bit of everything, but overall it’s just a good old fashion romance.”  Those last four words from the author explain why I’m enjoying this story so much – I raise my skinny latte to toast good old fashion romance!

Oh, and Deebelle1 worked as a coffee girl in LA and met many stars in her time. She mentions a star at the start of each chapter, revealing what kind of customer they were, and we’ve certainly learned some interesting tidbits, such as in chapter two, “Today’s Hollywood star is Neil Patrick Harris…aka The Dick.” lol These personal anecdotes certainly add a nice touch to the story…just like a happy face in coffee foam!

As the lovely actress/singer Kristin Chenoweth tells us, “…love can be yours if you step up to the counter and order…”  So, what are you waiting for?

Easy as Pie by Edward’s Eternal

*Made by Edward's Eternal*

*Made by Edward’s Eternal*

Easy as Pie ~ Edward Masen: successful actor, admired by many, desired by thousands; he had everything he could have possibly wanted, except … happiness. One night, while trying to escape his crazy life, he literally made a “right” turn, which led him to Little Bell. Could finding that happiness really be as easy as pie?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Hurt/Comfort – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 5 – Words: 19,150 – Reviews: 1,182 – Favs: 890 – Follows: 1,340 – Updated: 11h ago – Published: Nov 13 – id: 9842447

This is another Actorward I am currently enjoying very much. Bella is a student making ends meet by baking and waitressing in “Easy as Pie”, and Edward is a famous actor in need of a break.

Now, on the face of it you might consider this and the storyline above to be similar, but honestly, apart from their occupations and initial meeting, these stories are as different as lemon meringue pie from strawberry rhubarb crumble. It’s a completely different kettle of fish, or in this case, plate of pie.

When pie-loving Edward “literally made a ‘right’ turn” and walked in the door of the small coffee shop, “Easy as Pie”, he was in dire need of a break from his regimented life…“ Away from the world of Edward Masen and everything it represented.”

I stopped at a corner, waiting for the light, when a mouth-watering aroma filled the air. I glanced to the right and saw a small coffee shop with the sign Easy as Pie lit up in the window.

Pie. I loved pie. I really loved pie.

I never got to eat pie anymore. Apparently, refined sugar would be the death of me; at least according to the personal trainer the studio insisted I needed for my next role, who designed a hell-on-earth daily routine I was supposed to be following religiously. Now my diet consisted of vegetables, fruit, and fish. I was hungry all the time and lately had been questioning why I had agreed to do this next role. I snuck in the occasional sandwich because, really, how bad could a sandwich be for you? I snorted, remembering James’ reaction to that innocent remark. Really bad, it would seem. At least his fifteen minute speech about dedication and sacrifice for the part, seemed to indicate that.

But I missed dairy. Bread. Pasta. Meat. And pie.

I hesitated; James wasn’t here right now and I wanted pie. I really wanted pie.

After all, I was going to hell anyway. Might as well do it thoroughly.

I headed toward the small diner and stepped inside, breathing in deeply. My mouth instantly began to water. I walked to the back and sat in a secluded, corner booth, grabbing up a menu and burying my face in it. After a few minutes I looked around. The place was fairly deserted, with only a few tables taken and once again, no one was looking at me. I sighed and put the down the menu, taking in my surroundings. Clean and warm, there were bookshelves along one wall with a sign over them saying ‘Help Yourself While You’re Here’, a long counter with stools opposite it, and the rest of the restaurant was tables and booths like the one I was sitting in. Curious, I got up and perused the shelves. Grinning, I grabbed a book I had been meaning to read and sat back down. I had just opened up the cover when a gentle voice startled me.

I looked up into the deepest brown eyes I had ever seen. They were warm and welcoming as they gazed at me and I waited for the sure widening that would happen when they recognized who I was, but it never came. Instead they remained warm and kind. They were framed by long lashes and as I looked into them I had the overwhelming sense of something inside me settling into place. A small voice in my head said the word home, and I was mystified because of it, trying to figure out why that had happened. Suddenly, I noticed the furrow appear between those lovely eyes and I realized I had been staring and not speaking for far too long.

Blinking, I cleared my throat and smiled warily at girl in front of me. “Please.”

Her answering smile was wide. “Anything else?”

“You have pie?”

Her smile got wider. “Not just any pie. Real homemade pies. Best in the city. I just took one out of the oven.”

How could I resist that?

He may have meant the pie that time, but it’s not long before he also cannot resist the baker…Bella. She is a hard working, very sweet, talented girl, struggling to overcome the difficult hand life has dealt her. He is struggling to cope with his lifestyle – that of a megastar and heartthrob – and Bella blows a breath of fresh air in his stuffy and controlled world; she becomes his catalyst for change.  Their emotions run deep very quickly…falling for each other is as easy as pie, but the reality they are soon forced to face is anything but.  Have no fear about the future as Edward’s Eternal assures us she believes in HEA for Little Bell and Pie Guy.

Go on, don’t try to resist…serve yourself a large helping of this delicious story.

And now for something completely different…

IMHO it takes a special kind of story to be named the Best HEA in an angst contest, and that’s what we have right here ladies…a special kind of story.  Another Love captivated me in the contest and I can’t tell you how pleased I am that it is being continued.

I’m not going to tell you anything at all about the premise as that would only take away from your pleasure of slowly discovering it yourself. I will tell you, though, that this unique, beautifully told story will make you feel; it will pull at your heartstrings and make you smile, I know, for that’s what it did to me.

Another Love is told from EPOV, in the present, in dream sequences and in flashbacks. Sparklymeg made me feel as though I lived through each one of those moments – and all the intense emotions to go along with them – with Edward, and now I can’t wait to experience his future.

Here is a spoiler-free peek at Edward…

EPOV October 2005

I wander back into the living room, beer in hand, and ponder how I can get people to leave. It’s almost midnight, and I have to be up really early.

Okay, yeah. I definitely am a party pooper.

I’m almost knocked off my feet when a hard body stumbles into me. I steady myself to find Emmett McCarty, high, drunk, or both, wrapping his arms around me.

“Cullen! You made it man!”

Why do people keep saying that to me? Am I that obvious?

Emmett and I do the loose, side, male hug thing and he starts prattling on about his football game last week. I’m not really paying any attention though, because I’m distracted by a commotion on the other side of the room.

That smarmy fucker, James, from my Ethics in Education class, has some poor girl pressed against the window frame, his hands wandering down the sides of her body. She looks uncomfortable, her head moving from side to side. I realize he’s trying to kiss her and she’s resisting.

I’m over there before I even realize I have moved, my hand firm on his shoulder, pulling him away.

“Hey man, I don’t think she’s interested.”

James stumbles, and looks up at me. He’s glassy eyed, intoxicated, and his features twist into an expression of sheer confusion. Recognition dawns on his face, and he straightens up.

“She with you, man?”

“Yeah, she is, so back off.”

Wait, what?

The words tumble out of my mouth before I realize what I’m saying. In my peripheral vision I can see the girls eyes widening, and I hear a breath catch in her throat.

James mumbles something incoherent and stumbles away.

I turn back; only to be faced with one of the most beautiful girls I have ever laid eyes on.

Guess this party won’t be so bad after all.

Convinced she was headed to permanent residency in Loserville, Bella Swan would have done anything to fit in with the popular crowd. What if she was presented with an opportunity to do just that? Would she take it happily or would she stop and think about the person she was leaving behind? Inspired by 13 going on 30. Romance, drama, humor and a little bit of everything.

To Destroy by walkingwithgiants

To Destroy ~ In the words of Abe Lincoln, “The best way to destroy an enemy is to make him a friend.” Bella works for a man that makes her teeth grind. “My boss is an asshole,” she cried.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Drama – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 40 – Words: 86,502 – Reviews: 2,731 – Favs: 2,061 – Follows: 3,107 – Updated: 10-25-13 – Published: 10-25-11 – id: 7493279

‘To Destroy’ is not this fandom’s average Bella-as-assistant and Edward-as-Asshole-Corporate-Officer, story. For one thing, the author is forty chapters in and there hasn’t been any sex. There is, however, awesome character development, humor, UST and an engaging plot. The characters all act and react like real people, not fantasies or clichés. It’s a different story in that regard; slow building but wonderful.

This personal assistant Bella of CFO Edward’s, is witty, smart and hard-working. He is a true workaholic and tyrant; who is also shown to be driven, intense and intelligent. As the story progresses she goes from mentally calling him ‘asshole’ and her ‘mortal enemy’ to seeing him as a man who cares for all of his employees and busts his ass to get everything done correctly.

All that and yet he is totally without social graces.

As the author slowly humanizes Edward for the reader and for Bella, we read as he earns her hatred, then respect and, at the current update, her friendship. In recent chapters, the author has teased us with flashes of interest, on both sides:

After her car breaks down in chapter 27, he offers to drive her home. On the way they actually talk about their plans for the evening…

He nodded, keeping his intent gaze on the lines of traffic in front of us. “Do you have plans?” he asked in a strange voice. “Hot date?”

Oh God. The awkward was overwhelming. Did he really just ask that? Looking at him out of the corner of my eye, the pink that stained the angles of his high cheekbones told me that yes, yes he had just asked me that ridiculous question.

I couldn’t help but snort. Loud. So loud he turned to look at me for a split second before smiling so wide in return, I thought his face would stretch painfully.

“I don’t know why I just asked you that,” he admitted with that blinding grin before blushing a pure salmon color. “Jesus.”

Laughter burst out of me at the look on his face and admission. Three gasps of air in later, something as rare as the Abominable Snowman rang throughout the confines of Mr. Cullen’s luxury sedan—he laughed. It was loud but not obnoxiously so, and it was such a rich noise, it threw me completely off guard before making me laugh even harder.

…and then in chapter 28 he even apologizes and is considerate towards her:

“I meant to buy you lunch today,” he said simply.

“Why?” I asked him a little too quickly, sounding like way more of a bitch than I intended to.

“For being a,” he gave me a weak smile, “prick this morning.”

Well then.

“I’m sorry. I had a bad morning, and when you didn’t show up I thought maybe I’d run you off when my calls went straight to voicemail—”

Wait. He’d called my phone when I hadn’t shown up?

“I should’ve known you wouldn’t just stop coming to work even if I’d done something to upset you. I was worried.” He paused. “I’m sorry for being rude,” he apologized.

And I think in that moment the world really did come crashing down. Mr. Cullen had been worried about me?

So, we saw another side of Edward…and then in chapter 37, we see Bella’s side of things and how they are progressing and how he is affecting her *wink*:

He was still in his suit pants, but his belt was off.

And so was his dress shirt. In only an undershirt that was a pristine white, it didn’t change the fact that it was thin. Nearly see-through.

When the hell did he get time to exercise?

He wasn’t big like my brother, but his body was lean and strong like the ballet dancers I saw at the Nutcracker every year. Or like a martial artist.

Was that a vein in his bicep?

What the fuck was I doing checking him out?

Dear God. I needed to masturbate soon if I was starting to get desperate.

But I glanced at the neat outline of his pectorals and for some messed up reason, thought to myself, well, maybe not desperate exactly. Stupid. I was getting stupid.

The mutual respect is there.  Their friendship has begun.  An attraction between the two has sprung up and I am looking forward, so much, to seeing where the author takes it all…because:

“There was Mr. Cullen…and then there was Edward.”

A Slow Boil by kts

A Slow Boil ~ Bella’s an exchange student hoping to find a job to keep herself employed for the summer so that she can stay on at an exclusive University. Her best job prospect is a part-time housekeeping position with one Mr. Cullen.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Humor – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 25 – Words: 83,904 – Reviews: 2,175 – Favs: 3,064 – Follows: 1,127 – Updated: 02-02-12 – Published: 06-04-11 – Status: Complete – id: 7052343

First off, I have to let you know that this story is quite unusual in a many ways – it has a lot of non-canon elements (for example, you won’t find Emmett, Rose or Jasper in this story and well, Edward is quite different…  But if you are like me, you won’t mind. *winks*)

If I had to sum A Slow Boil up in one word I would use “intriguing”.  It captured me from the first chapter and soon I was addicted, plowing through the chapters as fast as my eyes could take me.

The beginning of the story has us meeting Bella when she applies for the position as a housekeeper to the enigmatic Edward Cullen.  Bella desperately needs a job to earn money to keep her in her student exchange program at the exclusive University she attends – but what begins as a necessary venture soon becomes a labour of love, despite some of Edward’s odd ways…

Extract from Chapter 3

“Miss Swan!”

I practically ran back into the dining room. “Yes, Mr. Cullen, what is it?”

“Miss Swan. Didn’t Mrs. Whitlock explain that you are to wait in the kitchen while I eat? I had to call you twice. Why didn’t you come the first time?” His tone was level, his expression blank, but he was rocking his empty martini glass back and forth in agitation.

“She did, Mr. Cullen, but I thought I’d have time to run downstairs and finish folding your laundry before you needed anything.”

“You were wrong. I want another martini.”

“I’m sorry – I’ll make you one right now.”

When I returned to the table I noticed that he was about half way through his meal. As I placed his new drink down he looked up at me, reading my face, which no doubt showed how anxious I was about upsetting him on my first day here.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. I’m sorry about leaving the kitchen.”

“That’s alright, Miss Swan. Just don’t let it happen again.”

“You know, you can call me Bella.”

“Bella.” He said it like a statement, trying it out. “It’s a pretty name and it suits you, but I prefer Miss Swan. And I’d like you to call me Mr. Cullen or Sir.”

“Yes, sir.”

Hmm, yes, he sounds like a tyrant, doesn’t he??  But have faith, dear readers, not all is as it seems!

One of the things I loved about A Slow Boil the most was the fact that Edward really does remain a mystery until quite late on in the story – and this is why I enjoyed that this story is only told (until the very end) in BPOV.

As Bella “sweetens” Edward up and we get to know him better you can’t help but love this man who, with all his quirks, is really very caring and incredibly protective of Bella.

So, if you like your stories a little out of the ordinary and love great characters you can wrap your mind around, I’m sure A Slow Boil will be sure to satisfy!

Contractually Bound by LyricalKris

Contractually Bound ~ She’d cost him everyone he’d ever loved. Surely a few months of marriage wasn’t too high a price for her to pay in compensation.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Drama/Romance – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 23 – Words: 82,259 – Reviews: 5,170 – Favs: 2,421 – Follows: 2,829 – Updated: 07-23-13 – Published: 04-11-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9193694

I had heard so many great things about Contractually Bound, I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into it this week, and once I started, there was no stopping me!

Contractually Bound is quite unusual as it was started by two authors, GinnyW 31 and Shug (sshg316), but it was continued on by the uber talented LyricalKris and boy, she certainly did the original authors proud.

I wouldn’t exactly call Edward in this story possessive, per se, but he is very controlling (it is almost like he needs to be in control at all times), and at the beginning, he is a bit of an ass (okay, a lot of an ass) … just sayin’.

Bella is working as a short order cook and lives above the diner where she works – she is saving to finally meet her dream of going to college.  All that changes when Edward bursts back into her life after eight years and pretty much demands she marries him.  Edward’s mother, Esme, is dying and Edward believes that by seeing Bella and Edward finally together (even though it is a huge farce) it will give her peace in her final days.

But, dear readers, there is a whole lot more going on in this story than I can ever do justice with my mere review…

A little glimpse of Edward’s vitriol from Chapter One…

“What do we tell them?” she asked quietly.

“In two weeks’ time, I’ll take you on a quiet picnic lunch and tell you how, now that we’ve reconnected, I could never let you go.” Edward found he had to swallow down bile as he spouted off his carefully planned lie.

“Why are you giving this to me now?”

He leaned forward, his hands again resting on the sticky table, but he tried to ignore it. This was important, and he wanted to make certain that he was very clear. He waited until Bella raised her eyes from the small gold band to meet his gaze before he spoke. “Because I don’t want to confuse the lines, Bella. This is an arrangement—a contract—nothing more. This is a small town and we will have to be seen in public for this to be believable, not to mention family dinners and so on, but I want to make it clear—” he leaned even closer to her and brought up his right hand to grip her chin “—you mean absolutely nothing to me.”

Dropping his hand and standing back up, he walked to the door. With his head down, he reached out to turn the knob and said, “I will be here Sunday at three to take you to the house.”

He didn’t wait for an answer before he yanked the door open and then slammed it shut behind him. He couldn’t get out of there fast enough.”

Make no mistake, Contractually Bound is a hard read, but like most hard reads, it is very worth the heartache you endure just to see these fractured souls mend each other.

Nothing to Declare by lellabeth (one shot)

Nothing to Declare ~ Going through airport security just got a whole lot better. Meet Customsward.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Bella, Edward – Words: 4,447 – Reviews: 84 – Favs: 182 – Follows: 86 – Published: 03-27-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9142276

I couldn’t help but share with you all this little one-shot of naughtiness (because, lets’ face it, we all love a little naughty).

I was miffed after I read Nothing to Declare, as I have never seen any airport security or Customs Officers that look like Edward *Ally huffs and crosses arms across chest*.  But I can live vicariously through Bella and what fun I had doing so!

“And what other piercings do you have, naughty girl?” he asks, his words as hot as his breath that hits across my cheek and steals my own. His mouth is hovering close to my neck now, the warmth of his skin making my own pucker.

“My navel. And… and one of my nipples,” I whisper, almost shy. It’s a change – I’m usually brash, not often coy, but there’s something about this man that makes me feel like the delicate woman I’ve never been.

“Mmm, I bet you do. All pretty and pink with a bar running through it, is that right?” He says, his groan sending a gust of scorching air across the back of my neck. I gasp; clenching my eyes against the wave of arousal so strong it nearly cripples me. I don’t speak but nod instead, relishing in the way his lips pepper the sensitive skin of my neck a minute later.

“You know what that means?” he asks, immediately bringing his mouth back to suck at my pulse point. I’m incapable of words so instead shake my head vigorously, swallowing the whimper that threatens to burst out as he licks a light trail up my throat.

“Wand search, my little Bella. I’m going to have to run it all over this body,” he tells me, demonstrating by rubbing his big palms in a circuit from my hips to just beneath my breasts. “And you know what else?”

“W-what?” I ask, moaning low as he brushes his pinkie over my straining nipple.

“You’re going to love it.”

Oh, yes, Ladies – going through airport security will never be the same again! *Swoons*

Grand by CaraNo

*Made by Cara-No*

*Made by CaraNo*

Grand ~ A mafia tale about love, loyalty, betrayal, and family. Told in three parts: Grand Tale, Grand Vendetta, and Grand Finale. We’ll begin in 1975 and follow a family through the MGM Grand fire, the Dunes implosion, and the opening of Mandalay Bay.

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Crime/Family – Chapters: 42 – Words: 229,608 – Reviews: 3740 – Updated: 10-31-13 – Published: 2-22-13 – Edward, Bella

I adore the intensity of Possessiveward…the deep connection, the almost feral need for Edward to be with his Bella, which is why CaraNo‘s Edward in this epic trilogy really fits the bill for this week’s post. Dark, demanding and controlling, with aggressive tendencies…and yet his love for Isabella, his Hummingbird is unquestionable. Their love, their passion is the backbone to the series.

Usually I choose an excerpt from around the time that Edward and Bella meet, but this one from a recent update shows just how their special brand of love has stood the test of time, how Edward -or Junior as he’s known- still has the urge to show just who she belongs to, and in turn, that she owns him.

Grand Chapter 37: Finale 9

“C’mea.” I pat the marble counter and take a step back so she can hop up and sit in front of me. “Lemme look at’chu.” I set down the razor and untie her robe, letting it slide open and down her shoulders. “I’m sorry,” I mutter, ghosting my hand over her thigh. In several places on her body, I can see marks from my fingers, hands…shit, even my teeth. “You shoulda bopped me one.” I frown.

“Did I ask you to stop, ciccino?” She goes for the razor and motions me close. I step between her parted legs and keep still as she begins to shave me. “It was so intense,” she whispers, her eyes searching mine. “I loved it.”

My frown deepens, but I say nothing. Make no mistake, the wife and I can be like animals in bed, but it’s been years since I got so rough that I left marks behind. Maybe some redness that fades within a few hours, and soreness…but this? Cazzo. There’s some dark bruising around her hips from my tight grip, bite marks along her thighs and neck…

Yesterday, I lost my head—my fuckin’ mind.

I have an insanely beautiful wife, but back home no one dares to look at her in a suggestive way. People know who I am, and when I take Isabella out to dinner or a show, they know better than to gawk at the woman on my arm. Unless they’re suicidal.

While it has all the classic characteristics of a mafia story, CaraNo gives us more. This is a family love story, with amazing original characters that I actually care about and really want to know (quite a few non-canon pairings); moments of real terror where I’m frightened and reading between my fingers; hot, hot, hooooot steamy lemons that leave me panting…but right at the heart of it all is love. It changes, evolves but just gets deeper. I’m not gonna lie, there have been times when I’ve been angry too – wanted to shake Junior, scream at him even, but Isabella understands him, knows his world and anchors him.

I’m not sure how Cara has managed to create a love story spanning decades, with a multi-generational and complicated family tree, using real life events as a backdrop and infusing humour, without diluting the love story of Edward and Bella…but she has. It really is a drop-everything story.

White Shadows ~ Edward’s a knight. Bella’s a fair maiden in need of a protector. An arranged marriage, a run for freedom, a change of heart, a choice to be made. Lots of adventure, some humor, and a cocky Edward.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Fantasy/Romance – Edward, Bella – Chapters: 15 – Words: 74,623 – Reviews: 961 – Favs: 620 – Follows: 1,015 – Updated: 11-06-13 – Published: 07-28-13 – id: 9538475

Sunflowersongs hints at the sense of fun she instills in White Shadows, and the delights that lie ahead with her author note from Chapter 1: First, Edward is a knight and about the cockiest bastard you’ll ever meet. Second, there’s a fair maiden in need of rescue. And third…did I mention Edward is a knight? Oh yes! I hear you sunflowersongs, and I’d like to add, fourth, fifth and sixth…did she mention Edward is a cocky bastard?

Look up to the top of the post at the sexy banner made by AllyVera.  Protective – Controlling – Intense, yes, yes, and yes for our favourite knight, but I should have asked her to include Cockybastardward…someone please pass me a Sharpie. 🙂 Read this extract from the first glimpse of Edward and I’m sure you’ll agree…

I walked into the dark, smoky great hall and tugged off my gloves and cloak. I adjusted my tunic over my chain mail as my squire, Tormund, rushed over to relieve me of my things and my sword. I went to unhook my sword belt, but paused. This was a friendly castle, loyal to my family, but, as my father had always reminded me, trust no one but your own self.

A buxom serving wench brought me a tankard of ale and handed it to me with a nearly toothless smile. She gave me a once over and then winked at me as she shoved her large breasts up to better display her wares to me. She was almost ugly, but she seemed clean and friendly enough. I pondered her silent offer as she strutted away.

No, I wasn’t that desperate. I’d wait for a better offer. It would come. I never wanted for a woman to warm my pallet at night.

Being the only son and heir to Castle Sunhaven of the Amber Isle, First Knight to King Alfred, the reigning tournament champion five years running, the man nicknamed “Slayer” by those he’d fought against…I held a certain attraction, a certain fascination to women. But then perhaps my face and body- and being well endowed- had something to do with it as well.

Perhaps Edward, perhaps! LOL

Isabella of Ostburn is the fair maiden in need of protection and Edward of Sunhaven is just the man knight for the task. Not that she makes it easy on him, and I can’t blame her for that as she finds him to be “the most annoying, frustrating, and confusing man that’s ever lived!”  Actually, Bella does agree with Edward’s self-assessment that he is “every woman’s dream” well, he is her dream…and quite literally her knight in shining armour, but she doesn’t see the need to inflate his ego as everything about Edward is big enough already. 😉

Oh, did I mention this Edward smolders – he consciously smolders! I can almost hear him ask, “Do I dazzle you?” *Snicker* And in answer to his question, “Frequently.”  Because, yes, he does, and when he is all gallant, masterful and manly…he makes me – a modern independent woman – wish for a heaving bosom in which to offer him rest and comfort. (I’m so selfless!)  Then, when he gets all protective of Bella, it makes him doubly attractive in my eyes; he is welcome to sleep across the threshold of my chamber, js.

The seemingly simple remit of guarding Bella with his life, leads to discovering love, a daring adventure with loyal friends, bad guys and battles, and growing into the man he was destined to be.  Sunflowersongs also tells us this captivating story of fantasy and romance is “not set anywhere real, so there’s no historical accuracy to mess up, and the fictional medieval rules are my own in this land of Oaklea.”  Even given that fact, and White Shadows being so refreshing and unique, I enjoy spotting twists, canon characteristics and parallels that make me smile. It updates regularly and at 15 chapters in you’ll soon catch up with this intrepid band on their life-changing journey.

Copy Room by Edward’s Eternal

Copy Room ~ Sometimes flippant words are really the truth spoken out loud. What happens when someone overhears you and decides to give you what you secretly want but never knew?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Hurt/Comfort – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 27 – Words: 46,875 – Reviews: 6,000 – Favs: 1,801 – Follows: 2,812 – Updated: 11-07-13 – Published: 09-14-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9687201

Bella has a sexual fantasy: “Maybe that’s what I want, Rose. Sex with no strings. Maybe sex with a stranger.” I leaned back in my chair, enjoying the surprised look on her face. “Yeah,” I mused. “Hot, fast, hard sex with a stranger. Somewhere dark. No names. No strings. Just …” I lowered my voice further. “Hot. Dirty. Fucking.” …and this possessive, dominant, fuck-hot Edward, is just the man to fulfill it! Welcome to Edward’s Eternal’s Copy Room.

This Isabella Swan wasn’t usually so verbal and blunt, she’s actually quite shy and feels she’s “invisible” – suffering from a bit of low self-esteem after being hurt by her ex-boyfriend, Riley. She works as a PA in a busy office. Her boss, James, is not confident in the security of today’s technology, causing Bella to have to use a private copy room on a regular basis…and this is where all the action *wink* takes place, beginning when Bella receives an anonymous text…

Sighing, I gathered my pile of copying and went down the hall. I set up the copier and sat down, waiting for the collated piles to start appearing. My phone buzzed in my pocket, signalling a new text. I pulled it out, frowning at the unknown number. My eyes widened as I read the text.

You’re not invisible.

I see you.

And I think you’re beautiful.

Bella’s not sure what to think when she reads those words, and subsequent texts, “Be careful what you wish for, Bella.” At first she believes it could be a joke from co-worker and friend Rose to cheer her up, but as the story progresses, Bella discovers she really isn’t “invisible” but actually very desirable – to someone – and that her fantasy is about to become reality…

…the room suddenly went black.

For a second I stood there, confused. The copier was still working, how could the lights go off? A noise right behind me startled me but before I could move a pair of hands gripped my waist.

I gasped as the hands pulled me backward and I felt the hard planes of a well-defined chest pressed against my back. Warm breath drifted across my cheek as a low, rough voice whispered in my ear.

“Is this what you wanted?”

“What?” I whispered, a shudder running through me. “Who are you? What … what do you want?”

The voice chuckled, a deep, rumbling noise. “No names, remember? You said a stranger …”

A small whimper escaped my throat. Someone had heard my flippant words to Rose.

Warm lips grazed up my neck. “You know what I want. I know what you want. Tell me, Isabella,” the voice demanded softly. “Is the room dark enough?”

“D … dark enough?”

A warm, wet tongue traced my earlobe. Another deep chuckle sounded in my ear as I shivered and I felt the hands on my waist tighten.

“Dark enough for me to fuck you?”

Wow, anyone else hot?  Well, if you think that’s hot…you haven’t read anything yet because you need to meet: “Edward, Isabella. My name is Edward,” he growled as he thrust forward. “And I want to hear you moan it when you come.”  He is like no other Edward I’ve ever read – mysterious, protective, controlling, intense, complex, calculating, and even caring – as he gives Isabella exactly what she wants; but is there more to him than the dark, sexy meetings inside the copy room? You’ll thoroughly enjoy finding out; trust me.

What’s more, we must not overlook the fact that the story is also rated Romance…as sweet, shy Masen, with his offerings of friendship, coffee and Werther’s, is brilliantly interwoven into this complete and consuming plot, masterfully presented by one of the most talented and sweetest ladies I know, Edward’s Eternal!

A Love Story For The Ages by missrebecca

A Love Story for the Ages bb misforMarisa

A Love Story For The Ages ~NOMINATED FOR A SHIMMER AWARD! Edward was changed in 1918 unaware that his betrothed lay dying in an alley outside the hospital. Every eighteen years she comes back to him, only to die a horrible death. Can they find a way to stop it, before it’s too late?

Rated: Fiction T – English – Romance/Drama – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 5 – Words: 21,044 – Reviews: 68 – Favs: 118 – Follows: 51 – Updated: 10-28-10 – Published: 10-14-10 – Status: Complete – id: 6397934

This story has that special factor that sucks me into Twilight fics again and again – pardon the pun. Irrevocable love is my brand of heroin, and this fic gave me quite the hit!  The unique plot of this emotional and captivating story, A Love Story For The Ages, is exactly as the title suggests; it’s the story of a love so deep…a bond so strong…it defies logic and the laws of both nature and time. It can give the kiss of life to the long-dead human memories of a lonely vampire…

Edward had forgotten her. How her skin was milky white and her hair was so dark against her pale skin. Her lips a ruby red. He’d forgotten what they felt like, to be pressed under his own in a chaste kiss suitable for a betrothed pair. He’d forgotten how one night he’d felt her. The curves under her dress and the sighs over his face. He’d felt the soft skin of her collarbone under his lips that night. But he’d forgotten, until he saw her again.

It was eighteen years after he died. Eighteen years after a vampire named Carlisle had found him and ‘saved’ him, damning him to eternity on the earth but saving him from death. He’d never really known whether to be grateful.

But then he’d seen her. Her hair was shorter than he remembered but her eyes he would never forget. Such a deep shade of brown, he’d seen nothing like it till then. Her face was the exact same heart shape, her lips still an enticing red. She was smiling, with a man he assumed was her father. And he remembered.

Dinners with their families. Chaperoned evenings to the theatre. Nights in playing chess. Drinking tea on the porch swing. Sneaking in and out of windows. Being so deliriously in love they knew not what to do with themselves.

She would be over thirty years old now. Most likely married, with children, though seeing her then she didn’t look much older than she had the last time he’d seen her; through feverish eyes in the hospital he’d died in. How could he have forgotten her?

And so begins the heartbreaking cycle of love and loss, the waiting game and the constant race against time as the sand falls swiftly through the hourglass – all converging in the lives and deaths of the utterly spellbinding Miss Isabella Swan!

Twilight on the Prairie by ilovealion

Twilight on the Prairie ~This was inspired by the pictures taken of Robert Pattinson during the filming of Water for Elephants. Farmward looked so hot in his “period attire” that I was inspired to put him on the Prairie with Bella. E&B friends to lovers…

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Hurt/Comfort – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 2 – Words: 16,888 – Reviews: 24 – Favs: 39 – Follows: 19 – Updated: 02-28-12 – Published: 09-12-10 – Status: Complete – id: 6319993

I spent many a Sunday afternoon wishing I was Laura Ingalls Wilder – I know, I’m showing my age by confessing that. 🙂 I wanted to run carefree though the wildflower meadow with my sisters while wearing a calico sunbonnet. Stop laughing!  After reading Twilight on the Prairie by our very own Ilovealion, my plans of what…and who…I fancied doing in the meadow became most unPG.  In fact, they became positively M rated! 😉

We meet the lovely Bella as she wakes up to face another day of chores in her pa’s little house on the prairie. She is a dutiful daughter and willing to play her part in the running of the household, allowing her own hopes of becoming a teacher to crumble into dust.  Bella does enjoy taking care of the men though, and one in particular who she thinks back fondly on…

He and my brother Emmett had been friends forever. Heck, Edward was practically a part of the family. Growing up, he spent every spare minute with us. We would all work side-by-side to get our chores done so we could swim and fish down at the river. Even though I was friends with his sister Alice, she didn’t enjoy mud fights and baiting hooks like I did. I was a tom-boy, through-and-thorough, so I ended up being a third wheel, tagging along behind Emmett and Edward wherever they chose to go.

That was when they were children though; time and the seasons move on. Edward is studying to be a physician, like his father, but still helps out on the farm during school breaks. Bella is a young lady, constrained by circumstance, but, thanks to Edward, she gains a new awareness of what being a woman could entail…

My entire body began to flush as Edward tickled my palm with his lips. I had never, ever felt such a sensation. I could feel a tingling purr vibrate across my chest as my nipples hardened like I was outside in the cold. The sensation traveled down my body and settled between my legs, pulsing. I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath. I sucked in a gulp of air and stared at his beautiful face as he kissed my palm gently.

Sigh! Prairieward is the embodiment of sweetness and romance; he is also hot enough to ignite prairie grass!  So ladies, leave modern day life behind for a little while and revel in this gentle love story set in a simpler time.

Hard to Love ~ I didn’t know how to ask him if I was going to lose the one person that had loved me unconditionally my entire life. Bella Swan had been in every moment of my life since I was seven years old. Eighteen years. She was there for it all, and it wasn’t supposed to end like this. AH/Canon couples. EPOV Rated M

Rated: Fiction M – English – Hurt/Comfort/Friendship – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 12 – Words: 52,771 – Reviews: 1,675 – Favs: 1,053 – Follows: 955 – Updated: 09-01-13 – Published: 05-04-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9261922

Hard to Love by the talented storyteller, drotuno, is certainly not hard to love. It’s a short but compelling fic that really packs an emotional punch. Told completely from Edward’s point of view – except for the Fandom for Oklahoma outtake, which is BPOV and actually chapter 12 – each chapter presents Edward’s ‘Present Day’ plight and a Flashback to when Edward and Bella were children. That is where and how we learn the heartwarming progression of their special, childhood friendship into the unconditional, loving couple they are in the present day. But, where the “hard” stuff comes into play, is that all of this is recounted from…Bella’s hospital bedside.

Chapter 1

Forks, Washington

Present Day

He [Carlisle] guided me down the hallway, saying, “She’s stable, which means you can see her.”

After several turns, I knew where we were: Intensive Care Unit.  I stopped dead in my tracks at the end of the hallway.

“Just…” I gripped his sleeve. “Just…tell me, Dad. Before we go any farther. Is she… Will she… Fuck, what happened?”

I didn’t know how to ask him if I was going to lose the one person that had loved me unconditionally my entire life. I didn’t know how to stop the shaking in my hands, either. Bella Swan had  been in every moment of my life since I was seven fucking years old – through eighteen years of bullshit – including the time the man standing in front of me and his wife took me in off the streets and adopted me as their own son. She was there for it all, and it wasn’t supposed to end like this.

I know what you’re thinking, that this is going to break your heart… Well, I’m not going to sugarcoat it, I definitely shed some tears, but I also smiled through them, as Hard to Love truly is an inspirational story of two friends and lovers, that no matter what life held for them, stayed together through thick and thin – for better or for worse. And as Edward tells us, while he talks to a “sleeping” Bella, the magic all started when he met his real life “Princess”…

“I remember the first time I held your hand, Princess,” I sighed, playing with each of her fingers. “It was the first day we met, remember?” I smiled at the memory, but kept talking, simply to keep from falling apart. “You were this bright, happy…thing…all in pink. You had this sparkly band holding back all that hair.” I chuckled and sniffled against her hand, toying with a long, dark curl. “God, you really did look like a princess to me…”

Forks, Washington

Age  7

The sound of laughter made me mad as I walked out onto the playground, kicking a pine cone as I went. I hated being the new kid.

Stupid class. Stupid school. Stupid town. Stupid Mom and her new stupid boyfriend. …

“Did you see his hair?”

I glared over my shoulder. A group of girls looked my way and then laughed. I kicked the pine cone again, falling down into the last swing and pulling my hood forward. I wanted to go back home to Chicago, but my mom had wanted to move here. It wasn’t fair.

I dug my sneakers into the dirt at my feet, pushing slowly back. When I swung forward, I had to slam my feet back down in order not to hit someone.

“Hi!” she chirped. “You’re Edward Masen.”

I nodded, staring at her. She was all in pink, with dark hair pulled back by a sparkly thing that looked like a crown. Her smile was big and she had a bunch of freckles across her nose. But her eyes reminded me of the picture of an angel I saw once in a church in Chicago.

“You’re new, right?” she asked, and I nodded again. She giggled. “Don’t you talk?”

“Yeah,” I whispered, frowning up at her. Really, she’d been the first person to talk to me all day, besides the teacher. Everyone else just…stared.

“My name’s Bella. Today’s my birthday,” she stated proudly, sitting down in the next swing.

“I’m seven.”

“I’ve been seven since June,” I argued, rolling my eyes.

“So we’re the same.” She kicked back and started to swing.

“No.” I shook my head, swinging forward. “You’re a girl.”

Bella laughed, but for the first time all day, the sound didn’t make me mad. “I mean the same age, silly!”

“I’m still older,” I told her.

We were getting higher and higher, which caused my hood to fall back. …

“Edward, you like cupcakes?” she asked, and I nodded, licking my lips, because it had been forever since I’d had sweets. She held out her hand for mine. “Come on. I’ll get you one. My mom made them for me.”

I slipped my hand in hers, letting her pull me up from the swing. It was warm, but even though she was a girl, it didn’t feel funny to hold her hand, because she was my new friend.

See? I know you’re smiling too. Bella is a beautiful, loving soul in this story, and Edward’s love for her will make you swoon and sigh as he takes vigil by Bella’s side while she fights for her life after a terrible car accident – the power of the Edward and Bella connection is incredible here. And, remember, even though the A/N in chapter 1 says, “…this fic comes with a huge TISSUE WARNING…and is a rough ride,” I can honestly say, it’s totally worth the time to read because Bella has a hell of a lot to live for!

Stealing Home ~ Edward Cullen is hot shot baseball player in a bit of a slump. Bella Swan is the girl that he couldn’t have long ago and now she’s his new owner and he can’t have her again. Will he walk away or swing for the fences?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Edward & Bella – Chapters: 2 – Words: 20,278 – Reviews: 265 – Favs: 696 – Follows: 439 – Updated: 06-22-10 – Published: 06-07-10 – Status: Complete – id: 6031956

Stealing Home is another romantic, sexy Sportsward brought to us by one of my favourite fic authors, Nolebucgrl. Now, close your eyes, please, and imagine, Edward Cullen in tight, white baseball pants, and a fitted, white St. Louis Cardinals jersey, trimmed in red, outlining his well-defined muscles, everywhere, as he swings a hard… Yeah, you get the picture! lol And I’m pretty sure that was what a seventeen-year-old Bella Swan was thinking when twenty-year-old Edward first joined her father’s baseball team five years ago and she developed a huge crush on him. But now, today, that she is a college graduate, and the new owner of the Cardinals, after the sad and untimely death of her father, Charlie; how will Bella see the famous short stop? And more importantly… How will he see her?

I heard the distinctive click of high heels on the concrete floor and glanced over my shoulder to see what was going on. I hoped to God it wasn’t Lauren Mallory looking to corner me before the game. She worked for The Post-Dispatch and was constantly attempting to get me into bed. Like I was stupid enough to sleep with a reporter? Rejection seemed to bounce off her though; she just kept coming after me like a rabid dog.

The first thing I noticed when I caught sight of the female walking toward me was that she wasn’t Lauren. This woman put Lauren to shame in every single way. She had hair the color of the mahogany wood cabinets in my kitchen. I loved that color. Her heart shaped face was gorgeous, a perfect peaches and cream complexion, high cheekbones, deep brown eyes flecked with some gold…she was stunning. And the rest of her body was as lovely as her face. She was wearing a charcoal gray pinstriped suit/skirt combination with a cream colored blouse underneath. Her legs were perfect, shapely and muscular at the same time. The tight little package was made complete by a pair of gray heels that matched her outfit perfectly. My mouth was watering at the sight of her.

It wasn’t…it couldn’t be…”Bella?” I asked, shock coloring my tone.

*grins* I think Edward has a lot to learn about “Ms. Swan.” There is so much history, and unresolved feelings, between Edward and Bella, which develops into a sweet and passionate two chapter romance, where Baseballward makes a resounding resolve to, “…get her home run, both on and off the field.” 😉

Dear Bella by Lellabeth

Dear Bella banner

Dear Bella – December 22 is the only day I let myself think of you. I don’t know if you remember, but I’d do anything to forget.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Angst – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 13 – Words: 15,675 – Reviews: 1,026 – Favs: 418 – Follows: 540 – Updated: 06-28-13 – Published: 05-21-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9314616

Dear Lellabeth,

There are Fanfic authors who write beautiful words, stringing them together like prayer flags in an empty wilderness. There are authors who write important stories, that promote understanding and give insight into pain, suffering and joy. And there are those who use patience and care to weave a story out of captivating moments, revealing the heart of their narrative one delicate leaf at a time.

And then there’s you.

I wonder how many tears, both sad and happy, have been shed as a result of Dear Bella?

Dear Bella,

Do you remember when we met? I can still smell the marinara that got embedded in my hoodie when you bumped into me, and I still smile when I remember how your cheeks flushed redder than the sauce. I knew you of course – the police chief’s daughter come home, the new toy for all of Forks to gawk at. They stared and you faltered, stumbled and stuttered and grimaced your way through those first few days of the spotlight. Except when everyone else had grown bored and looked away, I continued to sneak glances at the glint of your hair in the sun or the way your sundress brushed the backs of your thighs.

I’d pretend to be terrible at biology just so I could watch you arch over the microscope, watch the strawberry slick of your tongue as it soothed the chapped skin of your lips and imagine it was touching mine instead. You’d catch me sometimes, forever staring, and your wide eyes trapped me like pomegranate molasses, and I wouldn’t doubt that there were moments time stood still as I watched the hammer of your hummingbird heartbeat against your neck. But you’d always look away just as I smiled, leaving it to fall just as I had fallen.

As I said to you this week, thank you for tearing my heart into pieces with a few, carefully woven chapters; and for stitching it back together again with the skill of a story-tailor.

Yours always,

Dear Bella ch1

Rescission ~ We met. We got off. We went home. We weren’t lovers. We weren’t even friends. We were f- buddies. It worked… Until it didn’t. AH, ExB.

Rescission by GeekChic12 is a short but consuming story; it’s one I read as a WiP, where I vied for updates, and dropped everything to read them. As stated in the final author’s note, “In contract law, rescission has been defined as the unmaking of a contract for the mutual benefit of both parties.” And that is the definite crux of this Edward and Bella love (?) story, as they begin a mutual “fuck-buddy” relationship that is hot…and well, HOT! Let’s define the beginning of their mutual agreement…

My body knew his so well—his touch, his smell, his taste. And what it felt like when he tasted me. But my mind reeled. We didn’t go out in public together. We had a system. It started with a text. It might be a direct I need a fuck, or a more explicit I want to hear your fingers sliding in and out of your pussy as you suck my dick, with a time and location.

We met. We got off. We went home. We weren’t lovers. We weren’t even friends. We were fuck-buddies. It worked. To keep it working, we had rules. A contract of sorts.

Ah, but, did it work? And what happens if – and when – those “rules” get blurred or “bent”? Because when Bella’s boss, Dr. Rose Cullen, decides Dr. Swan, needs to meet her hot bartender brother, Edward Cullen, that is exactly what happens, and things might just get a bit more complicated… *wink*

Excerpt from Chapter 1

Sitting in a booth in a trendy Seattle restaurant, Dr. Cullen’s husband, Emmett, was cracking us up with his unique take on life as a stay-at-home dad—from shooting down philandering mommies in their playgroup to adding their three-year-old neighbor to his ever-growing list of boys who would never be allowed to date his daughters.

“Just the other day, Lily went…”

I didn’t register anything else Emmett said after I glanced toward the door and saw him.

I noticed his distinctive swagger before I even glanced at his face. It was less of a walk and more of a sex-prowl. How could he use that walk so casually, in the middle of a busy restaurant? And more importantly, what the fuck was he doing here?

Would he think this broke our agreement if he saw me on a date?

I looked down and away from him, trying to hide behind my hair. Maybe he wouldn’t notice me. I peeked over again, and Rosalie and Emmett shared a confused look before peering over their shoulders. He was headed straight for us.

I silently chanted, “Turn. Turn. Turn,” in my head.

Rosalie looked back at me for a moment with an excited smile before turning back toward him, standing to offer a quick hug. His eyes widened as he caught sight of me just before her arms went around him. “Edward, I’m so glad you made it,” she said. “I was getting a little worried.”

Of fucking course. There’re only about four million people in the Seattle metropolitan area, half of whom are men. Why wouldn’t ‘E’, the barman I’d met a couple months ago, also be Dr. Cullen’s brother, Edward, who owns a restaurant?

And my blind date.

I was pulled from my thoughts when Rosalie said my name. “Isabella, this is my brother, Edward Cullen, famous restaurateur—”

Fuck-buddy Rule #5: No meeting each other’s friends and family—no good can come from this.

Rule status: Bent

And so the rescission begins… At the end of each chapter, we learn the “fuck-buddy rule” pertaining to that chapter’s events, and its consequent “rule status.” But, as the story progresses, it appears those rules are more difficult to abide by, and internal struggles ensue, especially for Dr. Swan. Edward and Bella do continue to be…something – it’s complex, hot-as-hell, very sexy and sometimes even sweet, but when things inevitably change and emotions do become involved and intertwined… What does that continue to do to those rules? Where does that leave Edward and Bella’s agreement of no kisses, no emotional attachment? Well, I’ll let you discover that for yourself as you read this sweet, complete story, because I thoroughly enjoyed watching the – *cough* disintegration *cough* of their rules – progression of their relationship.  After all, aren’t rules meant to be broken? *grins wickedly*

Someday ~ Social reject Bella Swan finds her whole life changing before her eyes after her first encounter with the cute boy at the Concrete Canal. Three years later, she shows her uppity classmates that she’s so much more than they ever thought possible.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Angst/Romance – Bella & Edward – Words: 7,581 – Reviews: 81 – Favs: 228 – Follows: 67 – Published: 10-16-10 – Status: Complete – id: 6403322

I had to share this inspirational one shot with you today; to say I was moved, and it touched my heart deeply, would be very apt. Someday has been around for quiet some time, as it was a winning entry in the 2010 A Picture Says it All Anonymous Contest, but I just recently had the pleasure of reading it. IMHO, the talented author, A Cullen Wannabe, has portrayed a relatable Bella with a beautiful soul, as the story tells the tale of a high school girl who endures the daily ridicule and bullying by her peersfor a variety of, sadly, typical reasons. And for anyone else who has ever suffered from this, I know you will empathize with her.

Your heart will also break for Bella, as did mine, when her eighteenth birthday becomes, “the Worst Day Ever!” But, what is truly captivating about the story is the heartwarming turn of events, when a new student in town helps Bella find a new lease on life…that all starts on a Concrete Canal wall…

I don’t know how long I stayed like that, hiding from the world, but suddenly a sound made me look up in surprise. A few feet to the right of me and further down the bank, near where my bag landed, sat a boy with hair that reflected in the sunlight with hints of red and brown. He faced the water with a guitar in his hand and strummed it quietly. I watched in awe as he began to sing, his warm vibrant voice echoing hauntingly off the concrete and water surrounding him.

“When you’re down and all hope is lost, just remember life is short.

Shallow people break your heart, beat you down and make you hurt.

But time will pass quickly dear, before you know you’ve moved on,

To a place and a time not dictated by the small people you have fought.”

Stay strong, stand tall, be beautiful, you see,

Because no matter what they say, you’re beautiful to me.

Don’t crumble dear, stand strong and clear, be who you want to be.

Be individual and free.

And someday they will all see what only a few of us can see.”

He continued to strum, never looking at me, and yet it almost felt like he was singing for me. His tune continued on before another tune intermingled a moment before it swapped out completely, his fingers nimbly plucking out the tune of Happy Birthday. I gasped, staring with wide eyes with my hand over my mouth as he glanced over his shoulder with a small smirk.

I stared for a long moment before finally he stopped strumming and nodded his head, as if he were trying to tug me over with the motion alone. I faltered for a moment before slowly rising to my feet and carefully moving the few feet to stand beside him. He looked up with a smile as his hands returned to strumming.

“I was beginning to think you weren’t going to actually come over here. Would have been a shame to not get to meet the girl that inspired in the course of a few seconds the first song I’ve actually been able to write on the spot in years.”

I reached out to grab my bag, tugging it toward me awkwardly, not knowing what to say. He just chuckled at me before stopping his hands again to reach his right one over toward me.

“I’m Edward, nice to meet you.”—–

Yes, I sighed and swooned, too. And that is only the beginning of this one shot full of unconditional love, real life, music and eventually a strong, empowered Bella, which was the pièce de résistance for me as a Twilight fic readerwell, that and Guitarward. *be still my heart*

CSI Seattle WA by Michaelmas54

CSI Seattle WA ~ A chance discovery in the forest near Forks starts a series of events that could prove cataclysmic, not just for the people involved. A story of love, passion, murder, mystery and horror and rated M mainly for the passionate bits. A story of about 89,000 words that will hopefully keep you on the edge of your sofa! Updated in ‘episodes’ of 3 chapters at a time, every Saturday.

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Drama/Romance – Chapters: 22 – Words: 79,781 – Reviews: 406 – Updated: 9-28-13 – Published: 8-17-13 – Bella & Edward

This is one of those stories that made me curse everyday life for encroaching on my need to consume, right from the compelling opening, the existing 68,726 words in one sitting.  Yes, it’s that good!

It starts with an intriguing prologue where an arm is discovered in the forest near Forks, then quickly moves to Forks high school ten years earlier. Bella and Edward are partners in Biology – now you might be thinking, where have I heard that before – but believe me, while there are some fun nods to canon, there is nothing familiar or clichéd about this refreshing plotline.

Bella is a lovely, young girl who takes the chance on asking her shy, geeky lab partner to accompany her to prom. OME! What an unforgettable prom night it turns out be – for both of them…

Edward looked into her eyes for a few moments as if he was trying to preserve the memory of her face, then he kissed her gently at first and then he took her bottom lip into his mouth and sucked it while Bella whimpered and moaned with pleasure. His breathing accelerated and Bella felt herself moving backwards until she was pressed up against the wall of the house. His tongue was in her mouth now and as he was devouring her he grabbed hold of the material of her dress and pulled it upwards, then he lifted her up off the floor, wrapped her legs around his body and pressed himself against her. She could feel his arousal right where she was on fire and their kisses became more passionate and frenzied as they writhed and moaned in a tight embrace. Edward’s hands were moving over Bella’s body while her hands were buried in his silky hair. Tears had started to form in her eyes as a feeling of pure ecstasy overwhelmed her. This kiss would live in her memory for the rest of her life and she didn’t want it to stop.

Edward broke the kiss and rested his head on Bella’s shoulder while he regained his composure. He was seriously aroused but was not prepared to take this any further tonight. He had never thought himself capable of this level of passion and he felt totally out of control. He knew he had to stop as it would be unfair of him to have sex with Bella tonight, which is what he wanted to do. He was leaving Forks very soon and would probably never see her ever again as his father was selling up and following him to the East Coast. He carefully put Bella back down onto her feet and wiped a tear from her cheek with his fingers.

“I’ll never forget tonight as long as I live Bella. You are a beautiful girl and a beautiful person.”

Move on ten years and DanielGaleward is all grown up. *pause while I swoon at visions of Edward in a lab coat* He is a highly respected and successful scientist, although his personal life does not match his professional one. Unfortunately for him, he has settled for content, believing blissfully happy is not something he will ever be…that is of course until a chance reunion with the beautiful, brave Bella, now a crime scene investigator. Their sweet romance and their powerful passion for each other play out against the perfectly planned backdrop of crime investigation and intrigue, with both their professional lives and their families woven finely through it.

As a reader, having the benefit of looking from the outside in and seeing the overall picture, I have a feeling I know where this story is going – and who dunnit. But, given how Michaelmas54 cleverly inserts a twist when you least expect, and how what I consider genuine clues could be red herrings, I’m not willing to bet on it. I am, however, not above bribing Michaelmas54 to post faster than her weekly schedule of three chapters every Saturday.

Hot Commodity by blueeyedcherry

Hot Commodity ~ Edward Cullen is used to getting everything he wants. Good looking, wealthy, and charming, NYC’s most reputable playboy doesn’t take “no” for an answer. Then he meets Isabella Swan and all bets are off … Except for one. *AH/OOC*

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Humor – Chapters: 31 – Words: 183,669 – Reviews: 1768 – Updated: 9-25-13 – Published: 9-5-11 – Bella & Edward

Hip Hip Horray! Three cheers for blueeyedcherry who recently completed her Masters!

Whilst I’m thrilled for her -and proud of her achievements- I’m also thrilled for me because Hot Commodity is close to completion!! WoooHooo *runs around throwing confetti*

So, what’s so special about Hot Commodity? Apart from witty banter, and a snarky, intelligent and sexy Bella, there is also an extremely successful, intelligent, arrogant, womanising Edward who may just need bringing down a peg or two…

“Do you know anything about iPhones? Mine seems to be broken.” I hit her with the puppy dog eyes and a sheepish grin, holding the phone out to her. Her friend rolled her eyes and tapped her foot impatiently. I recognized her from somewhere but my scotch-induced stupor prevented me from remembering any details.

What’s wrong with it? Not that I’d know anything about it, I haven’t progressed past the flip phone era, but I could try to fix it.” She took a gulp of champagne, probably to stop her nervous ramblings.

“Your number isn’t in it,” I said matter-of-factly. I was prepared for an eye roll, followed by a nervous smile, followed by the girl giving me her number and having several cocktails with me before going back to my place.

This girl was different. She choked on laughter and the champagne sprayed out her nose and all over the front of my Armani suit. Her brown eyes grew wide and her hand flew over her mouth in embarrassment.

“I’m so sorry! I can’t believe I did that! But really, can you blame me? Who uses pick up lines these days?”

I chuckled despite myself. Under normal circumstances I’d be furious with this bitch. This suit had cost me almost two grand. Her eyes and her smile somehow managed to extinguish my anger.

“Don’t worry beautiful, with tits like those, you don’t need to apologize for anything.” This girl was a spitfire and I probably should have known better than to speak to her that way. Her expression quickly changed from one of mild-embarrassment to one of all out rage. She handed her champagne to her friend, took two steps towards me, drew her arm back, and WHACK! – slapped me (harder than I’d ever been slapped, might I add) across the face. Then, adding insult to injury, she set my phone on the table next to me, and poured the remainder of her champagne all over it.

“That should fix your problem. Now you can’t run your disgusting mouth to any of the poor women in your phone book ever again.” She spun around and grabbed her friend’s wrist. “C’mon Alice. This asshole doesn’t deserve our company.” They disappeared into the crowd before I even had a chance to process what had happened.

Of course, they do meet again. Edward’s sidekick and partner in crime, Jasper, goads him into a ridiculous bet. A bet that, once accepted, will change their lives forever…

The humour is quick, the sex is smouldering and the relationships believable. I love and hate Edward in equal measures -actually I grew to love him pretty quickly –  I rant at the screen at his behaviour and stupidity, but delight in his roguishness. I’m right behind Bella one minute and hoping to kick her ass the next! But they’re so bloody loveable whatever their flaws.

This story has it all, twists, turns and a more than a few “oh shit” moments; I find myself grinning as I read and hoping they find their gold-plated HEA. It’s a real page turner that has kept me gripped from day one.

It won’t be long now until I know their fate, blueeyedcherry is posting one more regular chapter and two epilogues…believe me, it’s been well worth the wait. ❤

There’s a Word For It by Eiluned Price

There’s a Word For It ~ I hadn’t liked 17-year-old boys even when I was 17. So what is it about Edward Cullen that’s so compelling? Whatever it is, I can’t afford to find out.

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Drama – Chapters: 8 – Words: 49,328 – Reviews: 573 – Updated: 9-8-13 – Published: 2-26-13 – Bella & Edward

I’ve been dying to share this story with you all, but it’s so unique I haven’t found a category to post it into until now.  And now that I have my opportunity, I’m finding myself lost for words, despite the title!

Imagine Bella never makes it to Forks as a teenager, but a twist of fate brings her as an adult – a cool, smart, sophisticated and confident adult – to teach AP English at Forks High School. Guess who fate would place in her senior class? Seventeen-year-old Edward and Alice, that’s who. How disturbing would it be for her to find herself sickeningly enthralled by a teenage boy?

I misjudged how long I needed to get back to Building 3 from the cafeteria, and by the time I arrived in my classroom, my 15 AP students were already in their seats. Fortunately, I had left a “do now” assignment on the whiteboard, and they were quietly writing. I dropped my lunch bag into my desk drawer, grabbed my clipboard with the class roster, and turned to face my students as the bell rang.

A boy with wild reddish-brown hair and a girl with spiky dark hair were toward the back, a little off to the side of everyone else.

The Cullens.

Holy fucking shit. I wish I had been able to prepare myself, as the Clapp had suggested, and not because the Cullens looked as if they wanted to tear my throat out. They were both stunning, the boy especially, possessors of a pale beauty that seemed alien not only to Forks, but to the entire planet, cool and composed as the rest of us wilted in the heat. The girl beamed at me, light hazel eyes sparkling, while the boy stared at me as if I were some unidentifiable species of insect. I flushed hot under his scrutiny, and realized that I was staring too, and in a most improper-for-a-teacher way. I walked to the windows and cranked one open, welcoming the breeze on my cheeks.

I turned back around, and avoiding the gazes of the distracting Cullens, welcomed my new students and said, “I know it’s the rule here to use honorifics and last names, but I’d like to know what first names you prefer, so tell me as I do the roll call.” I looked down at my roster. “Alvarez?”

“Gracie,” came the answer from a brunette with Abercrombie emblazoned on her faded T-shirt and an accent in her voice. Mexican, I guessed, born Graciela.

“Brett.” Principal Bob’s son had Fitch on his shirt.

“Tiffany.” Victoria’s Secret. Well.

“Cullen, A.?”

“Alice,” a beautiful soprano announced, and I finally looked in the Cullens’ direction again. Jesus. The only logos on this girl’s clothes were discreetly stitched onto the lining, and probably said something like Gucci. Or Chanel, if the bouclé jacket she was wearing was the real thing.

Not that it mattered. The important thing was the Alice was no longer beaming, but grim-faced. And Edward looked as if he was about to throw up, his head down, his hand over his mouth and nose.

“And this is Edward,” she added, indicating the boy in the desk next to her with a graceful wave. “His throat hurts a little today, so it’s best if he doesn’t talk.”

“Oh, that’s too bad,” I said, though I didn’t believe her. The boy looked as if he was in utter agony, not just as if had a sore throat. I thought of suggesting that he go see the nurse, but reconsidered. He was a senior who could decide for himself.

I returned to calling the roll, which ended with Teague, Eliza (Hollister). I went on to collect the summer homework and hand out books – both times, Alice Cullen glided up to the front of the room to drop off her and her brother’s summer homework essays, and to collect their copies of “Four Greek Plays” – and start the introduction to “Oedipus Rex,” the first work we’d be tackling.

As I conducted the business of the day, I kept surreptitiously glancing at Edward Cullen, without intending to. His head was still bowed, but his hand was now gripping the edge of his desk. Even from my position at the front of the room, I could see the muscles and tendons tensed in the forearm extending from the pushed-up sleeves of his white button-down shirt. Periodically, his sister put her hand on his shoulder – in reassurance? In warning? I couldn’t tell.

All the while, the other students seemed unaware of the bizarre tableau being acted out behind them. They never looked at the Cullens, never talked to them or interacted with them in any way. It was as if they were invisible to everyone but me.

I glanced up at the wall clock – the period was about to end. As my eyes flickered down, they met a pair of black ones. Edward Cullen was staring at me now with an undisguised, burning hostility.

Then the bell rang, I blinked, and the next second both Cullens were gone. What the fuck?

That was a long excerpt, but I wanted you to read first hand how a. damned fabulous Bella is in this fic; and b. how awesomely sexy Eiluned Price is as an author. Or is it just me who gets excited by incredibly intelligent authors who can draw you into their world as seamlessly as a – er – as a – seamless pair of panties? Oh look, I’m not at my best here – just go read the story, will you? A little bird tells me it’s about to update to chapter 9.

Crash Zone by JiffyKate

Crash Zone ~ The Crash Zone is a buffer zone outside the perimeter of the track. It’s purpose is to insure the safety of the fans from skaters falling out of bounds. Is it enough to keep hearts from being broken?

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Humor – Chapters: 14 – Words: 46,622 – Reviews: 629 – Updated: 8-6-13 – Published: 3-27-13 – Bella & Edward

Hi all! It’s been a long time since I’ve been on this side of the blog. *waves ecstatically* But ain’t no Britboys gonna keep me away from fanfiction! So let’s get to it, shall we?!

I recently read this almost complete WIP, Crash Zone by JiffyKate and loved every minute of it. All that’s missing is the epilogue, which I heard should be posted very soon, and a futuretake. These two ladies bring you a fun, light hearted story full of the snark that one can expect when you’re on the Roller Derby rink. Edward Cullen is the nerdy guy who comes to watch every bout, infatuated with Cherry, the bad ass jammer for the Seattle Sex Packets.  Too bad she doesn’t even know he exists. Watch and see what happens when these two worlds collide. Oh, and you know the saying, “Never judge a book by its cover”? Yeah, that applies here, in oh so many ways.

Chapter 1

That’s right. My Cherry is a roller derby girl.

OK, so she’s not really mine, but I want her to be. I’ve actually never even talked to her. I just sit in the same front-row seat every Friday night and watch her skate her team to victory, like the chicken-shit stalker I am.

I’m so pathetic.

I wish I had the nerve to talk to her, but I can’t. There’s no way Cherry would ever be interested in me. I’m a geek. I have the glasses and various degrees and certificates to prove it. She is way too cool for me, so I must admire her from afar.

And, admire her, I do.

Starting from the top, I watch her quickly braid her pigtails before she puts her helmet on. Her eyes are surrounded by makeup that is dark and smudged, and the cherry-red gloss she swipes onto her lips makes them look perfectly plump. Especially her bottom lip. I dream of sucking that lip into my mouth quite often.

Trying to discreetly adjust myself while the house lights are still on proves to be difficult, so I cross my legs and think about the national debt in order to calm myself down.

Cherry’s V-neck shirt is tight in all the right places, pushing her tits up nice and high for me to gaze at, while her shorts ride up just high enough for the bottom of her ass cheeks to peek out. When she turns around, I see that her full Derby name is stitched across her back. “Cherry Bomb.” So fucking hot. Completing her uniform are white knee-high socks with hot pink stripes wrapped around the tops, and I am now discreetly adjusting my crotch again.

Crash Zone is a fast and fun read that will be sure to make you smile, swoon and maybe even swear like a Derby Girl. Jiff Simpson and Jenny Kate do an amazing job collaborating, they write as if they are one person.  Maybe they are? Hehe. But either way you are sure to enjoy it and learn some Derby terms along the way!

The Beauty Within by afragilelittlehuman

The Beauty Within ~ Going to his brother Jasper’s company Christmas party, Edward hopes to spend time with the employee he’s admired from afar for months. Will his blindness keep her away, or will she find it allows him to see her in another way? AH/AU/OOC – ExB – Rated M

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Edward & Bella – Chapters: 5 – Words: 15,523 – Reviews: 371 – Favs: 942 – Follows: 556 – Updated: 12-25-10 – Published: 12-23-09 – Status: Complete – id: 5605891

The Beauty Within is a series of related one-shots, which began when the author was sent a picture (the one in the middle of the banner) and was challenged to write a story featuring a blind Edward. For me, it’s a gorgeous ficlit with a sweet and satisfying epilogue.

Edward works as a consultant to software companies, helping to test their applications for suitability for the blind. His brother Jasper insists Edward attends his company’s Christmas party as they occasionally engage him and his expertise.  For a refreshing change, Edward is the one who doesn’t see himself clearly…and that is nothing to do with the condition of his beautiful emerald green eyes.  He doesn’t think he has any hope with Bella, an employee at Jasper’s company and the object of his affection; he is so wrong though, as this lovely Bella sees him for the amazing man he is…on the inside.  She is intelligent and perceptive enough to know she needs to make the first move, and, she is brave enough to do it…

The dessert plates were cleared, and we sat in silence as the band began to play a slow song. Her hand was on my arm again, and I could hear her chair creak as she leaned toward me. “Edward, would you dance with me?”

Me, dancing? No, I knew that was a bad idea. “Thanks for asking Bella, but I’m not really a dancer. Maybe one of the other guys…”

“I don’t want to dance with any of the other guys.” Her voice was suddenly shy and meek. “I want to dance with you.”

Summoning all the courage I could muster and swallowing hard, I moved my chair away from the table and stood, extending my hand toward her. “Lead the way.”

Bella took my hand, and I tugged it slightly to help her up out of her seat. I expected her to lead me by my hand or maybe even place my hand on her shoulder as she’d probably seen Jasper do a time or two. What I didn’t expect was what she did.

She pulled my arm around her and placed my hand on her waist.

“Is this okay?” She didn’t even try to hide teasing tone of her voice.

I nodded a little too enthusiastically. “Y-yes, this is fine.”

A tiny gasp and the tinkle of a charm bracelet let me know that Alice and probably Jasper were watching the entire exchange. My face was blazing in embarrassment, and I knew I’d never hear the end of it.

Usually, if someone wanted to guide me, they would offer their elbow. With my parents, Jasper, and Alice, I preferred just a light touch on their shoulder. It was awkward trying to navigate the floor with only my hand at Bella’s waist. Like this, however, I could feel the beginning of the swell of her hip with my pinky, and I wasn’t about to give that up.

Finally, Bella stopped, and, as she turned to face me, my hand brushed around her waist until it rested at the opposite side. I brought my free hand up to the small of her back and pulled her to me, her arms coming up to encircle my neck. I kept a respectable distance as we gently swayed, but I still felt her warm breath on my neck as she whispered to me.

“Can I tell you a secret?” Her muscles were tense underneath my fingers.

My hand, having a mind of its own, rubbed small, soothing circles on her back. “Sure, Bella, you can tell me anything.”

“I asked Alice to seat me next to you.” Judging from the absence of warmth, she was holding her breath.

“Really?” No, my voice didn’t break like a pre-pubescent undergoing a voice change, not at all.

Her arms tightened around my neck, and she pressed herself against me. The soft curves of her body molded to me, and I tried to calm my breathing as my hand moved from her waist to brush up and down her side. I felt the heat of her released breath, and the tiniest whimper escaped her lips. Unable to stop myself, I leaned down and found her cheek with the tip of my nose, brushing it across and inhaling her tart scent. She shivered in response.

The beautiful, slow song ended and a cacophony of dance music started. We didn’t move a muscle.

“Edward?” Bella asked, her voice breathy.

“Yes?” I replied, almost choking.

“Would you like to go to the museum garden with me? Get away from all this noise?”

My heart, which had been pounding previously, completely stopped.

While there is no denying Edward being blind brings its own problems, both to his life, and in how to portray it, afragilelittlehuman doesn’t allow any of that to overshadow the relationship between Edward and Bella.  The romance is sweet and heartwarming – just like this story and it’s own beauty within.

Do you like to get in on the ground floor with fabulous fics?  If so, these next two tales are just for you. Please join me in a quick look at why I couldn’t resist these beauties.

Another Love ~ “Edward had it all… until he didn’t.” My entry for the 2013 TLS Angst Contest. Winner of Best HEA. Now expanding into a multichapter fic.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Angst/Romance – Edward – Chapters: 4 – Words: 13,997 – Reviews: 43 – Favs: 37 – Follows: 87 – Published: 08-22-13 – id: 9619625

I discovered Another Love as an entry in TLS Angst Contest, and found it to be beautifully written, bittersweet, raw, intense, and most of all…memorable.  Naturally, I was delighted when SparklyMeg responded to my review and said she plans to extend this touching story, and I just had to tell you about it.

Edward, with his knight in shining armour routine as he rescues the damsel in distress, was pretty memorable also…

I’ll be honest and warn you now, your heart may break when Edward’s does, but go ahead, put on your big girl’s knickers and read it regardless – it’s worth it! Remember, it won the best HEA award for a reason.

Small Bump by Thimbles

Small Bump ~ Pregnancy is an entirely natural process, one I’d studied and seen in all its stages. Yet in that moment, knowing that Bella was carrying our child, a little person somehow knit together from her and me, and the love we shared, it seemed a strange miracle—she seemed a strange miracle. Life, loss, love, and hope. (Angst rating applies to Ch. 1 only.)

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Angst – Chapters: 2 – Words: 8,614 – Reviews: 176 – Updated: 8-27-13 – Published: 8-19-13 – Edward & Bella

The talented and very sweet Thimbles has done it again!  She has begun posting a new story and, as usual, managed to have me completely captivated by her characters and immersed in her story with just one chapter.  Let me tell you, my big girl’s knickers are getting quite the work-out these days as the first chapter contains Angst – yes, I used that capital A on purpose.  Thankfully, Thimbles promises the angst is restricted to the first chapter, which I’m very happy to hear, as I’m already emotionally involved with Edward and Bella, and their beautiful relationship. I guarantee once you read this, you will be too…

Dawn is sneaking in through the crack between the curtains, painting a strip of red-gold across the ceiling and down the wall, and bouncing sparks of light off Bella’s tangled hair.

I squirm, trying to get closer than close, feeling like my nerve endings have been replaced with magnets, straining for Bella.

And then, with my hand flat against her belly, my nose buried in her hair, and my ankles tangled with hers, a new understanding settles into me with the quietness of dawn.

My fiancée is pregnant.

Her skin is softer. Her hair shinier. And her smell … fuck, she smells amazing. It’s not that she smells different, not exactly. It’s her, just … more potent or something. I don’t even know if I can explain it, but it drives me wild.

And I’m so confident I’m right, I’m already imagining her belly growing round and her breasts getting fuller. I’m starting to imagine ultrasounds and doctor’s visits and resting my hand over her belly to feel the kicks and punches delivered by tiny feet and fists.

And even as joy spreads through me, it’s chased by sorrow and fear.

As much as I want to shake her awake and tell her my suspicion, as much as I want to ask her when her period is due and to offer to run down to the pharmacy to grab a pregnancy test, I won’t.

I can’t.

I can’t bring myself to do that to her, to plant even the tiniest seed of hope.

Because this wouldn’t be the first time. We’ve been here before. The same signs, the same subtle changes. I couldn’t keep my hands off her then, either.

Clearly the opening chapter deals with miscarriage, sensitively written, and shown in Edward’s perspective. But, at two chapters in, there is joy to be found in their strong connection, their protectiveness of each other, and in how real and honest their story feels as they deal with life, loss, love, and hope.  I’m sticking with this tale until it reaches full-term – are you with me?

Open Range – A Short Story by pattyrose

Open Range ~ In the mid 1800’s, out on the western range is where a real man makes his livelihood. And if he’s mighty lucky, it’s where he makes his destiny as well. A six chapter story with daily updates. E & B.

Twilight, M, English, Romance, chapters: 5, words: 4k+, favs: 150, follows: 278, updated: 8/27/13 published: 8/26/13, Bella Edward

A/N: Hey all! This is what happens when FallingSnow Winter over on fb posts a manip of Edward as a cowboy, i.e., Cowboyward, on my fb page. This was the only way I could get him out of my head and move on with life. 🙂

So, I saw the manip that was posted in PattyRose’s Facebook group that she referred to in her Author’s Note…and while I’m not a big fan of manips, there’s just something about a cowboy and it’s a very pretty picture, iykwim! The next thing we all know, PattyRose’s imagination is all fired up and she posting a teaser. Oh yessssss! Within the blink of an eye we’re reading Cowboyward and melting. The short story will be posted within the week, with the epi posting tomorrow.

Open Range sees Edward and his brothers -you know their names- on a cattle drive. In punishing, unrelenting heat they’re pushed to their limits and aching. When a cowhand from a local ranch rides over to help them. Of course, the cowhand surprises our guy!

“When this cattle girl finally removes her hat and shakes her head out, long, chocolate hair comes loose and slaps itself against a sun-kissed face that should be on an angel, not a cowhand. I blink and stare like a total jack-ass because the sun has decided to shine every single one of its rays over her, and so I must look.

I ain’t no namby-pamby, ‘case that’s what y’all are thinkin’. I have never known myself to be in love. The three, wonderful, generous women who let me poke around inside them – Tanya, Kate and Rina – were not objects of my undying affection, though I deeply appreciated the favor that they were bestowing on me. I am a practical man of twenty-four years on this here Earth, and while I know that one day I may have to settle down and take a wife, I am aware that the life I lead is not ideal for most married folks. Plenty a grass widow come about from my way of life: women who can’t deal with a husband away for months at a time, who rightfully wonder what that husband does on his time away: who’s warmin’ his body and keepin’ his pecker workin’ and such. My Ma and Pa have made it work but that right there is the exception not the rule for conjugal bliss. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that my wife will come second in my life and will either deal with it – or leave.

Point is, I don’t spend my nights dreamin’ of my angel, of the one woman meant for me.

But hell if this woman before me don’t look like she just rode her horse down from the kingdom of heaven and donned a brown wide-rimmed hat, boots and canvas pants for the trip.”

Oh yes, she’s definitely caught his attention -and the attention of his pecker! This Bella is no wallflower or demure lady. No Siree…she knows what she wants, and it sure looks like she set her sights on Edward – and his aforementioned pecker!

PattyRose really knows how to write an engaging yarn and this one is great fun, as always, written impeccably and with panache. I defy you not to want to wash Cowboyward’s back…*that may be a spoiler!

My Love, My Sin by sulliedsoles

*made by sulliedsoles*

*made by sulliedsoles*

My Love, My Sin want it all. I need, and I take, and I abuse. But I love my Love, and I love my Sin. I can’t let either one go.

Twilight, M, English, Romance & Angst, chapters: 6, words: 2k+, favs: 16, follows: 39, updated: 8/26/13 published: 8/19/13, Bella

If cheating fics aren’t for you…look away now! There. You’ve had your warning, but believe me, you’re missing out. 😉

This is Bella, torn and wanting it all. Torn between the nice guy who showers her in affection and the bad guy, who makes her feel crazy, wild and free.

She wants to be the good girl, cherished and cared for by her Love. Or is that smothered? He’s the smooth, polished and über respectable type you take home to meet mother, he’s kind and thoughtful. Or is that controlling and manipulative? He’s predictable and safe. Or is that boring? Hmmmm. She should be happy; he should be enough.

“We sit, me first, then him, my gentleman, sweet-whispering, tender-touching, love-showering gentleman. He orders for us both and leans forward to talk. He is the epitome of grace and kindness, and he is all kinds of right.

“You look beautiful tonight, Sweetheart,” he says, blue eyes shining.”

But then she has her Sin…unapologetic, all kings of wrong – tempting, naughty, indulgent and passionate.

“I slap his hand away and push him over until he’s stretched out on his back. I unfasten pink clasps and strip off pink lace, tossing them onto the nightstand. He’s provoked me enough and I’m tired of his accusations when neither of us has the right to claim anything. I straddle his hips and drag my fingernails, just a little too hard, down his chest and over his ribs. He doesn’t flinch like Love does. His lips curl and he knows he’s got me back.

Pink stripes are showing on his skin when I reach for black elastic but he catches my wrist, flips me over, and hovers. I don’t squeal or fight; I wrap him up and press my calves to the backs of his thighs, lock my hands behind his neck, and pull him down to me.

When we kiss, it’s fire. It destroys. It makes me alive.”

My Love, My Sin is written beautifully, in Drabble-like chapters by new-to-me author, sulliedsoles. Her writing is poetic and holds a dream like, mesmerising quality. That doesn’t detract from the story though, we’re drawn into Bella’s haze of desire, both for her Love and her Sin. Two strong pulls inside her, fighting with who she is and who she thinks she should be.

Sulliedsoles reveals quite quickly who is who; the nicknames are not used to distraction, just enough to remind us of how Bella sees the men in her life; the roles they play for her.

It’s categorised as angst, so I’m guessing there’s a bumpy ride ahead. Sulliedsoles has told me she’s updating daily, once on weekends, so she’s feeding my addiction beautifully. I’ve got a feeling this is going to hurt, but the writing is worth the pain!

My question for you is…would you choose safe Love…or lose yourself in Sin?

One Day by RueforRegret

One Day ~ Over a quarter of a century separates single-mother Bella Swan from her hormone-riddled adolescence. Watching her teenaged daughter navigate her way through various rites of passage, Bella can’t help falling prey to nostalgia. “One Day” brims with steamy reminiscences of first love and traces one woman’s mid-life attempt to reclaim it. ExB, AH, mild angst, M-Rated 18 & over.

I think One Day has something for everyone, but for those hOOrs – like me – on the better side of 40, this story is very special and lovely.
Bella has divorced Mike Newton and is raising Carlie – an utterly believable modern teenage girl – in Toronto, Canada. We begin the story with Carlie leaving for the ‘Ex’, Canada’s national exhibition, with friends. This triggers a raft of memories from Bella’s own briefly misspent youth, and it’s the poignancy of these memories that had me sold from the beginning.
This excerpt is from chapter 2, when young, desperate-to-be-cool Bella encounters her glorious Edward for the very first time:

“Oh, so you’re from Toronto?”

Alice was on an information gathering roll. I, on the other hand, had completely forgotten how to function.

“Yeah. I go to Jarvis Collegiate. How about you guys?”

He looked first at Alice, and then at me. And that’s where his eyes stayed. Gorgeous green eyes, fixed on my face, willing me to speak.

“We go to Humberside Collegiate,” I said, proud of myself for stringing together five words that made sense.

“Oooh, West-End girls.”

As he spoke, his mouth twisted into a strange smile. I had no idea what his comment meant. All I could think about was the song by the Pet Shop Boys, the lyrics unfolding in my brain as I stood there mutely. Again, Alice came to the rescue.

“I’m Alice, by the way. This is Bella.”

She bobbed her head at me, puffing rabidly on her cigarette. I hadn’t ventured another drag, afraid to have a second hacking attack. I simply tapped the ashes off the end every once in a while, hoping he wouldn’t notice that I was wasting a perfectly good cigarette—or a perfectly bad one, depending on how you looked at it.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Edward.”

Edward. Such a formal name. Dorky even. I was pretty sure if there was a person in the world who least suited his name, it was him. He took three more long drags on his cigarette and then dropped it and squashed the butt with his sneaker.

“Well, I should get back to work. The ride’s about over.”

He took a packet of Big Red chewing gum out of his back pocket and held it out to us. Alice declined, but I took a piece, even though I’ve never liked cinnamon chewing gum. I watched Edward fold his piece of gum in half against his tongue and then lick his lips as he started to chew. Up until that point in my life, I’d never have described myself as having an oral fixation. I’d never been particularly interested in being a stick of gum, either. Edward quickly altered my career aspirations. Entirely. I wanted nothing more than to be folded in half against his tongue like that.

“Hey, if you’re around again before Labour Day, you should swing by and say hi,” he said.

“Sure. For sure,” Alice said.

I mumbled some sort of agreement as I watched him, by which I mean gaped at his ass, as he ascended the stairs. He turned and gave us another wave and then he headed back to his spot by the railing to wait for the next group of riders to settle in. I slipped the stick of gum into my front pocket and reached for Alice’s arm, spiriting her away as quickly as I could and dropping my cigarette as we walked, not even bothering to squash the butt-end. We didn’t stop walking until we got to the bumper cars, four rides away, where we linked hands and screamed into each other’s faces.

I cannot adequately explain this behaviour, other than to say…we were fifteen.

Oh my darlings, that could have been me. I lived on the opposite side of the world at fifteen (in Johannesburg), but RueforRegret is describing my life. And with what finesse! “Edward quickly altered my career aspirations. Entirely. I wanted nothing more than to be folded in half against his tongue like that.”– who doesn’t feel the same way, having spent the week drooling over Dior Homme gifs?

Their sweet, sexy romance is sadly a little before its time. Things go wrong, life turns out very differently, and we find ourselves back in the now wondering what will happen to bring the pair together. Because it’s Edward and Bella guys, of course they get back together!

We are on chapter 22 and there is plenty of story still to be told. Rue doesn’t have a particular posting schedule, but the way she writes is so unique and entertaining you are unlikely to forget where you’ve been in-between updates. There is angst, but it’s sad and relatable rather than nail-biting and anxious, so hold off until it’s complete if you must; but don’t forget to bookmark One Day, because I can pretty much guarantee you will enjoy this story EVERY day.

If He Would Have Been Faithful by beegurl13 *Complete*

If He Would Have Been Faithful ~ Sometimes life catches us off guard. It breaks our hearts, makes us question ourselves, urges to us be wild, pushes us to be brave, brings us joy we never imagined we could find. This is the story of a girl who lived a life like that. Of what she never even knew she was missing, until she found it. FAGEtastic Four entry written for WoahNow. E&B, AH, M.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Drama/Romance – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 34 – Words: 54,346 – Reviews: 2,918 – Favs: 769 – Follows: 562 – Updated: 07-18-12 – Published: 06-11-12 – Status: Complete – id: 8206020

I felt an instant connection to Bella (or Isabella as we know her at first) and maybe she brought out my maternal side, as I just ached for her.  In the first few chapters of If He Would Have Been Faithful, Isabella’s world turns upside down – she loses so much – her husband, her best friend in the whole world, her confidence and her dignity.

But never fear, dear readers – Isabella deals with her pain in a very mature way (considering she is only 21) and gives herself a new start – and this is where her journey really begins…

From chapter 12 – her first sight of him (yeah, you know who I am talking about…)

“Rosalie turned off toward the kitchen, and I went back to the counter. Wiping it off and trying to run out the last few minutes of my shift, I looked up when I heard the bells over the door chime.

A man and woman entered, and my heart stopped.

I hadn’t had feelings for any man since I met Jasper. Not once had I looked at a man and felt lust flow through me. Not once had I looked at a man and wanted to know what his lips felt like. Not once had I looked at a man and craved the touch of his fingers on my skin.

But this man…I wanted all of those things. And then some.

The fact that his hand was wrapped around the woman’s hand was upsetting to me, and I quickly looked away from them.

“Who are you?” he asked me.

Yep, he would render me speechless too – so don’t feel bad, Bella!  This is pretty much where Bella’s life starts turning around.  At first, Edward doesn’t like or trust Bella, but as we all know, sometimes the most “challenging” Edwards turn out to be the very best and the lovely beegurl13 has created a gorgeous specimen for us.  And he surfs!

This story is all about how sometimes in our lives the things that seem like the end of the world sometimes are just the catalyst for us discovering a whole new world – one that is bigger, brighter and everything a girl could dream of!

Broken Arrow by TwistingTwilight *Complete*

Broken Arrow ~ Bella and Edward have always loved each other. Married and happy, nothing could destroy them. But a tragedy tore them apart, two years later at the ER, Edward gets called to treat a critical patient, and as the blankets are pulled off her body, their world’s collide again. They have never stopped loving each other, and now they’ve found each other again, can they save their love?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Hurt/Comfort – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 14 – Words: 27,322 – Reviews: 811 – Favs: 665 – Follows: 592 – Updated: 12-28-12 – Published: 11-16-12 – Status: Complete – id: 8708392

Call me a masochist, but I love a good heart-wrencher, and I certainly got that and more with Broken Arrow by the wonderful TwistingTwilight.

This story shows us that no matter how much our E x B can love each other, sometimes when tragedy strikes, even the most powerful of loves are tested and left in tatters.

Edward is an ER Doctor and one night a patient is brought in who has been in a car accident – Edward, who has been feeling off all night, soon realises it is his much-loved, but estranged wife, Bella.  As he steps aside to let other doctors save the love of his life, you feel his pain and anguish..

“But I hadn’t lost Bella, she’d just left. She’d left me.

But she was still alive. That’s what I had to tell myself over and over again to get the tears to stop back then.

But she was dying now.

Would I lose her?

I moved my body to my office chair, setting my head down on the desk as I let the heartbreak and tears overcome me.

I had nothing else to do but mourn her.

It must have been hours later, because the dark night Bella had arrived in, had now turned into a new dawn.

But with the new dawn, came no hope at all.

I didn’t have any hope for her survival, something told me she was meant to come back into my life, simply for me to say a proper goodbye.

But suddenly, I heard my office door open.

I knew it was Mary.

My head snapped up, and I didn’t care that she would see my bloodshot eyes, or my tear stained face.

Her eyes were sympathetic, and that was when I knew…”

Things seem pretty bleak at this point in time, but there are glimmers of sunshine that increase as the story goes along.  The one thing you are never in doubt of, though, is the absolute love these two share.

This story is heart-breaking and hopeful all at once, but, at the end of the day, I believe it is really a story about hope and the assurance that love will eventually conquer all.  PS:  You might need some tissues, but not for too long!! ~ AV

I read a lot of fanfiction.  Let me rephrase that, I read A LOT of fanfiction and there have been many times lately when I’ve started a story and thought, ‘I’ve read this plot before.’   Set in Stone by psyche001 is most definitely not one of those stories.  Sure the usual cast of characters is present and yes they have most of the same characteristics we’ve grown to love and expect.  However the author has twisted the normal and breathed new life into each character.  Plus, there are gargoyles.

Yep, you read that correctly.  Gargoyles.   I’ve never given much thought to those seemingly unnecessary and ugly creatures that lurk on the corners of old, ostentatious buildings.  But after reading this wonderfully told story, I have a new found respect for those ‘Guardians of the Night’.

Without giving too much away, Edward is a supernatural and he falls for human Bella.  Sounds familiar right?   Wrong.   The main story isn’t that they fall for each other; it’s the myth and history surrounding the gargoyle legion as well as Edward’s history that draws you in and keeps you up well past your bedtime turning the pages of this magical tale.

Edward’s past is sad and it tortures him throughout the story.  What happened to him is the crux of how he became one of the ‘Legion’ 200 years before meeting Bella, and how he deals with the memories is a huge part of what motivates him to go against the family he’s been a part of since he became a winged creature of the night.

Bella lived through a tragic accident and that’s what links her to Edward. I won’t spoil the story by revealing how, but know that the link is so strong that Edward breaks the rules of his order and not only puts his life on the line but those of his coven as well to protect her.

Once the two meet, it’s readily apparent that they belong together and the rules in place to keep them apart are inconsequential to the pair. Though, for Edward, ignoring those rules bring serious consequences.   Consequences that force the two to flee across the world in order to escape them.

psyce001 writes with descriptive beauty that draws you in and transports you into the story.  It’s easily forgotten that you’re reading a work from a novice and not a polished and published author.  Here’s an example:

“He was just one step away from me at that point, towering over me in what would have otherwise been a menacing gesture. But I believed him when he said he wouldn’t hurt me. He looked dangerous, tall and brooding with the most grim of expressions on his devastatingly sexy face. His features were sharp though smooth and his thick eyebrows gave him a devious look. Still he was gentle and his tone was cautious. I was drawn to him despite the red flags that blared in my head. I had known ever since the very first time our eyes met that he was someone to stay away from, and perhaps, that was the basis of my attraction. That, and the unfathomable feeling that I was supposed to know him somehow. Maybe it was because he seemed more familiar with me than I was with him. Maybe I did know him after all, but forgot. Except, as I stared at him I knew that he was not someone forgettable, not in the least.”

This story has everything.  Magic, myth, angels, angst, deep friendships, loyalty, an adorable dog named Blade and, oh, have I mentioned the lemons?  They’re tangy, sweet and so very satisfying.

Here’s a small taste:

“That’s incredible,” she gasped. “Your fingers are so….hard!”

I smiled deviously and resumed my thrusting in and out of her. The faster I went the louder she screamed and she started pushing her hips down toward my hand. I controlled my forcefulness, only giving her as much as I thought she could take because I didn’t want to stab her insides and hurt her in the process. Isabella however, had other plans for me.

“Harder Edward! Harder!” She cried out.

I sought out her tongue and pulled it into my mouth as I went fractionally harder and faster inside her cavity. Again, she found it hard to kiss in between her screaming. So I kissed the corners of her mouth and buried my face in her neck as she writhed underneath me.

“Gah! Ed…ah! Uh…yah!”

I felt the curvature of the passage at the top where it opened into her womb and I plunged in deeper toward it with fast fingers. I figured that since she wanted speed, I could give it to her and my kind of speed was unlike any other she knew. I went so fast that all groaning stopped. She clenched her teeth and squeezed her eyes shut. The only sounds that came out of her mouth were the hissing sounds of air being sucked in through her teeth. Five or six thrusts per second had her in convulsions and every time I crashed into her womb I made sure to graze against the wall on the opening.

When I felt her tighten around my fingers and her eyes flew open, I bent my fingers against the curve of her wall and pulled down on the inside. The scream that erupted from her throat made my erection budge. When she started to tremble I lowered my face to her chest with my fingers still pressing hard on her insides and took her breast in my mouth. Sucking on her nipple intensified the pleasure judging from her second scream and a few seconds later she released and fell back onto the bed.

“Edward!” She laughed. “Oh my goodness! I’ve never…ever felt anything like that before! And I’ve been fingered a lot!”

“Spare me the details please,” I crooned against her chest, still nibbling on her perky parts.

“Sweet heavens, if your fingers feel like that…..I can’t imagine what….uuhhhhh….”

I started rubbing the head of my erection against her. Her eyes rolled back into the back of her head and she pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, depriving me of the privilege. I covered her mouth with mine then and sucked her lip from under her teeth, taking it between mine instead. She sucked on my top lip and scraped her nails against my scalp while rocking her hips up and down against me.

“I have to make a wall inside of you,” I said into her mouth.

Hehehe, you’ll have to read the story to understand exactly what that means.

Do yourself a favor and read Set in Stone.  And make sure you have plenty of time to read the original and the sequel, In Darkness and Light.  Because once you start, you won’t be able to walk away.

Tatted Hips and Wicked Lips by Hoodfabulous

Tatted Hips and Wicked Lips – Bella Swan can’t stand Edward Cullen. She hates his tattoos, his piercings, and his stupid band. But mostly she hates how badly she wants him. He hates her too…or so she thinks. Will one iPhone fail change everything?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Humor/Drama – Bella & Edward – Words: 7,630 – Reviews: 153 – Favs: 364 – Follows: 639 – Published: 05-22-13 – id: 9316776

Come closer while I tell you about this little gem of a story from the amazingly talented Hoodfabulous. It was written as an entry for the Twi-Fic Text Message LOL Contest, and believe me, laugh out loud is exactly what this fic made me do.

Tatted Hips and Wicked Lips won five awards including Public Vote 1st Place (I can see why), Best Edward (that works for me), and Hottest Text Fail (hell yeah). IMHO, this fic deserves a Best Original Character award for the very entertaining Cooch. Mostly for her single-minded determination, and her amusing outlook on life, but also for her perfect taste in men. By men, I mean one man in particular…the hot, cocky, tatted and pierced Mr. Edward Cullen. She is putty in his hands…err…totally under his thumb (she wishes)…err…I mean completely under his spell, and who can blame her? Actually, Bella can…

The garage door makes a popping sound as it slowly rolls up. I’m silently cursing Cooch, who’s already throbbing in my panties at the sight of Edward’s ratty old chucks. The next thing to come into view are his tight black pants, emphasizing the strain of his hard muscles against the soft, worn fabric. I can see the contours of his impressive cock right through those jeans, and holy crap, he’s not wearing a shirt. The deep V of his abdomen is next to appear as the door lifts.

There’s a thin line of bronze-colored hair trailing from his navel down to the Holy Land. A tattoo of a microphone peeks out from his waistband, near his groin, creeping up to the edge of his left hip. A tattoo of a gun peeks out from the other side, crawling over his right one.

The pecs on his cut chest are sweaty from dancing and thrusting his guitar in the air. I know this because I secretly watch him from time to time through the window in the kitchen door that leads to the garage.

Colorful tattoos of lyrics and quotes dance along his arms. The door is completely lifted, and all thoughts of cursing him for playing too loud flee cowardly from my mind as I stare at the metal in his face.

Mother freaking viper bites.

“Traitor,” I whisper, glancing down at the seam of my jean shorts where Cooch hangs her metaphorical head in shame.

See what I mean?

I’m not ashamed to admit that I did a little happy dance upon reaching the end of the one-shot and seeing this unexpected author’s note:

“I decided while writing this contest entry to expand it into a full-length fic. Bella, Edward, and Cooch have been waking me up from sleep on a semi-routine basis lately, pounding on my brain to let them out! I’m not sure of the genre yet, but let’s just say it’s humor/drama/romance. Edward is one brooding mo-fo, and I plan on throwing in his POV from time to time.”

So ladies, allow this chapter to tease and tempt you – just like Edward teases Cooch – and  then be sure to put this fabulous story on alert.

*Skips away to switch off the auto-correct feature on my iPhone before I make an embarrassing faux pas.  On second thoughts,  maybe some day it might lead to me having my…blushes*

Reality and Other Inconveniences by OhMyWord

Reality and Other Inconveniences – Edward’s body was close, too close for sensible thought on my part. He watched me like he was waiting for an opening, my own personal loosening of morals.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Friendship – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 31 – Words: 74,251 – Reviews: 924 – Favs: 917 – Follows: 440 – Updated: 03-10-10 – Published: 08-06-09 – Status: Complete – id: 5281521

I don’t understand how I haven’t read this before because OhMyWord completed Reality and Other Inconveniences in 2010! I can’t believe I nearly missed out on this gem. It is beautifully written with such wit and the lightest touch, dealing with difficult circumstances and the humourous side of life with equal aplomb.

Bella inherits a creaky Old Victorian – which includes a possible ghost, maybe some mice, but definitely a tenant! Their initial meeting wasn’t ideal and her friends decide to help her out.

He was crass and rude and…and -,”

“Good looking?” Rose asked.

“That man is going to be absolutely unbearable.”

“Has anyone ever told you, you sound a little like Jane Austen when you’re mad?” She leaned back in her chair, her mother on one side, Alice on the other. We were on the back porch after another much too early walk-through of the house; renovations were beginning and I was doubly irritated. For the next two weeks I would be without a shower, two weeks being a rough estimate though Esme assured me it was unlikely to go over.

“I think you should give him a chance, if for nothing else than the desire for a civil landlord/tenant relationship,” Esme put both hands around her coffee mug.

“You didn’t see the way he looked at me…can’t I just evict him or something?” I thought back to the night before. I wondered if Edward automatically hated everyone on sight like that.

“I’m afraid not,” Esme answered.

“You should just go over there and talk to him,” that was Alice’s solution to everything and for her, had a staggering success rate. “He was probably just embarrassed, he can’t still be mad.”

“I wouldn’t doubt it.”

She grabbed my untouched cup of coffee and stood up, “we’ll come with you.”

That sounded worse than going alone. “No, it’s early…,”I was already standing up. I couldn’t articulate what the sway was that Alice held over people, but regardless, something like that should have been bottled and sold to the masses.

“So we’ll give him coffee, like a peace offering.” She tugged on my sleeve and motioned for Rose, who huffed lightly, but stood as well.

“Uh…,” Rose nudged me into coherency, “we brought you coffee.”

Alice handed it to him brightly, that same mischievous grin on her face as she eyed him with frank appreciation. “Hi, I’m Ali-,”

“Thanks,” he said before promptly shutting the door in our faces.

I gestured toward the door angrily. “See what I mean?”

Alice looked at the empty hand that had been holding the mug.

I turned away with Rose and walked down the porch steps. “I bet we could get him to move out,” she suggested.

“What did you have in mind?” I was all for it.

I heard Alice behind me, still on the porch. “Well, I just won’t stand for that.” She knocked five times in rapid fire succession.

I stage whispered, “Alice!” Like that was going to do any good. I rubbed a hand over my face; this was much too much for eight o’clock in the morning. Rose and I stayed in our semi hiding place at the foot of the stairs to listen because, despite the hour, this had the potential to be very interesting.

The door opened and I heard Edward mumbling something to do with working and then, though we couldn’t see to be sure, Alice waltzed right into his house. Rose looked at me and I looked at her and then we crept back up the stairs, dimwitted secret agent style. “I don’t hear yelling,” she commented.

We both jumped when the door swung open a moment later. “Well same to you!” She strode down the stairs in a huff and we obediently followed.

I heard Edward from the doorway, “that doesn’t even make sense!”

Alice’s cheeks were flushed in a way that only happened when she was angry; she was holding my partially emptied cup of coffee; she flicked her wrist and dumped it in the lawn.

“What the hell?” Rose broke the ice a moment later.

“I do not like that man. And yes, Bella, you can use my shower while they’re working on yours.”

OhMyWord cleverly builds the story through Bella’s experiences, with brief paragraphs recollecting her childhood, her mother, her friends. But, interestingly the occasional short chapter gives the reader glimpses of her mother’s gentle and encouraging friendship with her tenant, Edward. I can honestly say she’s one of my favourite Renees.

Overall, Reality and Other Inconveniences is a light story, dealing with life, death, love and friendship, but there are some delightfully poignant moments that had me sobbing out loud. It really was an unexpected treat and it’s already on my re-read list…and I’m about to hit up the rest of OhMyWord’s back catalogue!

Map To The Stars

As Rob films Map to the Stars, a film engaging in  a “complex look at Hollywood and what it reveals about Western culture,” we revel in the fact that nothing reveals more about Western culture than its depiction in Twilight fanfiction. It takes those Western elements and values of political, artistic, philosophic, literary, and legal themes and traditions, that have been in the forefront of that complicated Hollywood society for many years, and brings forth a whole new and deep dimension of that fascinating, and sometimes hidden world.

Ready, Set, Action! by virginalvampire

Ready, Set, Action! ~ Edward Cullen is ready to take over Hollywood with his new role as vampire Elliot James from the world famous book series Immortal Sun. What he’s not ready for? To fall for costar Isabella Swan. Action! AH/EPOV/OOC/LEMONS/CURSEWARD

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Humor – Edward & Bella – Chapters: 35 – Words: 87,239 – Reviews: 240 – Favs: 243 – Follows: 182 – Updated: 08-28-12 – Published: 05-27-12 – Status: Complete – id: 8157020

This is an under-reviewed story written completely in EPOV and features a young Actorward and Actressella just starting out and acting in their first big movie. The movie is the author’s version of Twilight (different name, of course) and Edward and Bella are representative of the actors in the original movie. They first meet on the set when Bella comes in to audition for her role. Edward’s inner monologue is pretty humorous and I found myself laughing in several chapters. It’s not all fluff and humor, though. There is also some drama with our favorite couple in this story and some minor obstacles they need to overcome, but it’s pretty angst-free and is HEA. All in all, it was a pretty good story and one I wouldn’t mind reading again when I need something more lighthearted.

Let’s take a look at this humorous excerpt, showcasing Edward’s inner monologue, from Edward and Bella’s first meeting (Bella’s audition):

“Edward, darling! So nice to see you handsome!” I was wrapped in a hug before I could respond.

“Hey Tanya.”

At first glance you’d think Tanya wanted to fuck me. But that was just Tanya. It was her European way, you know.

Kiss. Kiss. Hug. Hug.

All that fucking shit.

I didn’t mind it. She was one of the hottest casting directors I’d seen.

What? She’s hot. I’m a guy with a dick, sue me.

“Are you ready to get started darling? We have five girls to audition with this morning and I would like to narrow it down by lunch.”

“Sure, Tanya. Let’s get started.”

The first girl made her way into the room and came into the bedroom set.

Ugh, no. Just…nah. She was okay looking I guess. I mean…I’d pop a chub if she was naked but she wasn’t anything extraordinary.

“Hi Edward, I’m Lauren.” Oh god. Nasal voice. Bye potential boner, I’ll miss you.

“Let’s get started!” Tanya clapped her hands together and ordered quiet on the set. The camera rolled and I got into character.

“Claire…stay very still, I just want to try…one thing.”

I leaned in to kiss her and she propelled forward to close the distance between us.

Ugh. Oh god, no.

Dry. Chapped. Lips.

Wait, do I taste…Cheetos? What the fuck?

I pulled back and stopped the kiss. There was no way I was sticking my tongue in there. I gave Tanya a small nod.

No way.

“Okay, thank you Lauren we’ll let you know.”

I loved how Tanya could dismiss someone in one sentence.

Lauren winked at me before she left.

Blahgg. Vomit.

“I’ll be right back.” I excused myself and practically ran to the bathroom. I grabbed my set bag and silently thanked my sister. She was a bitch but a bitch who could anticipate my needs. Which right now, was a toothbrush, andddd minty toothpaste. Yes! Hygiene is fun guys.

After brushing my teeth for what seemed like an hour I made my way back onto set.

“Next!” Tanya yelled and the door opened to bring out the next girl.

This went on for the next two hours. I’d have to kiss an unappealing overeager girl and then brush my teeth for twenty minutes.

By the time the last girl was on her way in, I wanted to kill myself. I couldn’t suffer through another terrible makeout session. My gums were getting sore from the insistent brushing. They’d start bleeding soon.

I heard the door open and looked up from my spot on the bed.

Holy. Motherfucking. Shit.

I…uh…holy motherfucking shit!

The girl…no the woman…who just opened that fucking door. Oh my god.

I was frozen. I don’t even think I was breathing.

Okay not breathing. Just making zombie noises? Alright then.

I don’t know what the fuck that was. Shut your mouth.

Ow. Boner. Painful fucking boner. Glad to see you came back buddy.

Okay. Settle down. Close your eyes. Breathe.

Oh holy shit! Now she’s right in front of me.

Pale skin.

Brown chocolate eyes.

Mmmm Hershey kisses.

Oh god kisses. I wanna kiss those lips.

Nom nom nom.

Pouty pink perfect lips. I bet they taste like chocolate.

This was the most gorgeous face I’d ever seen.

Oh, lips are moving. Huh. I don’t hear anything.

“I’m sorry could you repeat that?”

Pay the fuck attention Cullen! Boner go away, not now boy! Down!

Please don’t have a nasal voice.

Please don’t have a nasal voice.

Pretty fucking please.

“I said hi, I’m Isabella Swan. You can call me Bella.”

Mmmmm. Boner I totally understand. I wouldn’t be able to go away either.

Just don’t poke her, buddy.

Faking It by Spangly9

Banner by Sigh_for_Sigh

Banner by Sigh_for_Sigh

Faking It ~ Half of Hollywood’s most famous couples are faking it. That’s how Bella Swan’s publicist convinces her to pretend to date troubled Hollywood bad boy Edward Cullen. And she’ll do anything for her band and her music.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 32 – Words: 144,679 – Reviews: 5,562 – Favs: 8,598 – Follows: 2,909 – Updated: 10-30-09 – Published: 06-20-09 – Status: Complete – id: 5153711

There is no doubt that Spangly9’s epic Faking It is one of the best Actorwards ever written, but more than that, it has something else that is a rarity amongst Actorwards and that is believability.

When we meet Bella, she and her band, Eclipse, have just bit the big time after winning “America’s Next Great Band”.  But even with their newfound fame, they are still newcomers to the whole “celebrity” thing and her swanky publicist, Aro, talks her into a fake relationship with the gorgeous, troubled, but infinitely talented Edward Cullen.  In short, Bella’s band needs his Hollywood royalty status and he needs her innocence and “girl-next-door” sweetness.

Edward seems like a dick at first, and yes, he probably is a bit – but there is a lot more to this bad boy than meets the eye.  He is supremely talented, and when we get our first glimpse of him, his talent is being wasted due to the fact that no-one wants to employ him – this makes him a little bitter, but he knows deep down that it is all his own doing.  It takes a while for Edward to let Bella in, but when he does – wow… he does it in style!

This extract is a tiny bit spoilerish, but I can’t resist you seeing Edward in full “swoony” mode…

From chapter 17 (Edward and Alice chatting about Bella..)

“I like her, too, Alice.” I said softly, “I think I love her.”

Her eyes abruptly brimmed with tears and she smiled. Then she flung her tiny body across the couch at me and threw her arms around my neck.

“Oh, Edward. That’s great! I knew you weren’t completely hopeless!”

Then before I could respond in any way, she was scrambling off the couch and over to the door.

“Wait till you see her tomorrow!” Alice said, now fully re-engaged as the Stylist Nazi. “She’s going to take your breath away!”

And she was out of my room in a flash. I laid my head back on the pillow and spoke to the ceiling. “She already does.”

All together now…  Awww!

Sunshine moment aside, just as it seems these two are going along beautifully, disaster hits (in other words, Edward being a drunken idiot hits!).  And believe me when I say, when the angst arrives in this story, it goes all the way to 11.  But never fear, lovely readers, this story has a wonderful ending and I can say with my hand on my heart that, in my personal opinion, this story is the best completed Actorward out there (and that is saying a lot, seeing as it is one of my favourite genres!!). If you are one of few who hasn’t read this classic, start it today, I am sure you won’t regret it!

We Were Meant to be Scene  by  Vancouver-Canuck-Girl

We Were Meant to be Scene ~ One shot entry for the Public Lovin’ Contest Bella has a fantasy of sex in public and wants Edward to act it out with her – literally – opening night of their play.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Edward & Bella – Words: 4,702 – Reviews: 97 – Favs: 143 – Follows: 70 – Published: 10-12-12 – Status: Complete – id: 8604763

Vancouver-Canuck-Girl is seriously remiss in failing to warn of possible instantaneous combustion while reading this fic – this story is hotter than Hades.

Bella and Edward are actors preparing for the opening night of a stage play.  Naturally, by the story’s end, Edward has me wrapped around his little finger…although, I’d rather be wrapped around something else *wink* but it’s Bella who won my immediate admiration.  Why?  She is my kind of girl – she knows what, and in this case, also who she wants, and goes for it.  Here she is, the shy understudy, bravely sharing with the director, Carlisle, her opinion of how the love scene should play out, while co-star Edward listens more than attentively…

“I think these two need to get a little wild and crazy.”

“Okay, tell me what you’re thinking then.” The director laced his fingers together and leaned forward on the table while he waited to hear her idea.

She licked her lips before she spoke, and when she did, her eyes were steadfast on me.

“I can totally see Evan grabbing Becky, pushing her roughly against the wall. Instead of agreeing to make love, he says he wants to fuck her.”

My mouth dropped open. I certainly liked where this was going.

“I think he grabs her leg, hikes it over his hip before he nips playfully at her collarbone.” Bella smiled as she gave her suggestions, her eyes locked on mine.

Two could play at this game.

“Maybe they fuck right there against the wall, without taking their clothes off. Evan’s jeans hang precariously off his ass. Becky’s panties tugged down, her skirt hiked up so he can bang her right there.”

In case that left you in any doubt, Edward was more than willing for his character Evan “to get a little wild and crazy.”  We Were Meant To Be  Scene is both erotic and sensual; real life and acting reflect each other as life imitates art in the best of ways.  It may be a one-shot, but, believe me, it’s packed full of little things that show the creativity of Vancouver -Canuck-Girl’s mind, and, fevered chemistry I’d love to witness on the silver screen.  Go on; take five minutes to read this provocative nibble of naughtiness.

Mise-en-Place ~ I recreated his mother’s recipes when he was homesick. I made meal plans when he had to gain or lose weight for a role. And when he wanted chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne for another woman he was bringing home, I made them with all the love in my heart—the love he’d never see. So I showed him with my food.

“An aperitif (the word comes from the Latin aperire, “to open”) is a light, most often dry, most often modestly alcoholic beverage meant to spark the appetite without overwhelming the senses. … As for Campari itself, the drink is believed to contain rhubarb and ginseng, but I don’t know for sure. What I do know is that Campari is very bitter, so bitter it’s truly an acquired taste. But adding soda helps a great deal in the acquiring; in fact, a fair amount of chilled soda can open up Campari nicely, turning it into a more nuanced drink.” Jim Nelson. “Spirits: The Art of the Aperitif.” Food & Wine Magazine.

1.5 oz Campari

1.5 oz sweet vermouth

1.5 oz gin

Orange slice or twist for garnish

Pour into an old-fashioned glass over ice. Stir well. Garnish and serve.

Mise-en-Place is complete at 14 chapters, everyone of which opens with a culinary definition and/or a recipe, that will come in to use later, but don’t think you are reading the wrong story; Edward is indeed an Actorward, and I have to be honest here, at the beginning, he also fits in the Dickward category.  The long-suffering and very lovely Bella is a chef, and she has the dubious pleasure of quite literally catering to Edward’s whims.  At times like these he is lucky her knives are not to hand…

“You’re fired, Bella.”

“You’re fired,” he said, sitting behind his desk. His voice was hard, but he looked tired. He couldn’t look me in the eye. “Pack your shit and go.”

“Why, Edward? What—”

“Tanya said you cooked her dinner last night with butter.”

“No! I didn’t, I swear! I haven’t even bought any butter since she went on that stupid fucking diet! Edward—Mr. Cullen, please!”

“I’m sorry.”

I couldn’t help but scoff. I stared at my employer for a beat, but he was resolutely examining his own hand, spread out wide over the fine grain of his oak desk. The first time I realized I was in love with Edward Cullen, he had averted his eyes then, too. He’d been behaving like a gentleman then, not a coward.

“I thought I meant more to you than that.” Before he could answer, and before the tears in my eyes could make good on their threat to fall, I turned and left. I ran down the hall from his office, down the stairs and through the foyer to the huge kitchen that had been my truest home for the past three years.

“Three goddamn years!” I cried out, heading straight to the liquor cabinet. I reached in and grabbed the first thing I touched: Campari.

“Hah, fucking perfect.” I didn’t have the time or inclination to mix up a cocktail, or even add soda water to fucking allow those herbal flavors to open up or anything else. I didn’t even particularly want to use any glassware, but I had some fucking class. Unlike some cheap-dye-job strawberry-blonde silicone-enhanced on-a-fucking-diet starlets I could mention. Whore.

I poured a healthy measure into a lowball glass, sloshing some over the rim. Slamming the bottle down on the counter, I knocked the glass back. I grimaced; Campari was potent in a cocktail—on its own, it was nearly intolerably bitter.

My face reflected, indistinct, in the glossy marble countertop. Even in the poor, stone mirror my melancholy was evident. I wanted to keep drinking, but I wanted out of there even more.

“Asshole will probably make me pay for it, too, if he sees,” I muttered.

You know what they say about the way to a man’s heart…after three years of being secretly in love with Edward while cooking and baking for him– and his…err…female companions – even preparing the whole clichéd aphrodisiac spread when he was trying to impress a new conquest – she must wonder who made up that load of baloney.  Eventually though, with delicious enticing food as the backdrop, the relationship changes, and Edward allows Bella, and thankfully us, to taste the hot, sweet, goodness under his crispy shell.

Go read Mise-en-Place if you want to find out if Bella receives the service of a lifetime, and if Edward finally savours more than Bella’s culinary delights!

Director’s Cut ~ It was actress Bella’s first love scene and she was nervous. Director Edward tries to encourage her. However, when the scene starts, can Edward keep himself together? Remain professional? And after, keep himself in control? Collab with kyla713

Rated: Fiction M – English – Drama – Edward & Bella – Words: 10,128 – Reviews: 116 – Favs: 460 – Follows: 146 – Published: 09-02-11 – Status: Complete – id: 7347027

This one-shot opens on the last day of filming on a forty-five day shoot with the director Edward, along with the crew, quite on edge as they prepare for the final scene.  Not only is it the most difficult to film, it’s also the most pivotal scene in the entire movie – a fight/love/fight scene between low-life, creepy, goose bump inducing James, and Bella, “…young and an American sweetheart that blushed and was honest-to-God humble.”  To add to the tension, this is her first ever love scene, and so Edward heads to her trailer to check on her…

Taking a deep breath, I entered the trailer and found Isabella curled up on the couch with her copy of the script in her hand.

Her dark eyes looked up, giving me a wary smile. “Hi.”

“You okay?” I asked as I walked toward her. She cocked an eyebrow and I knew she going to try playing it off.

“I’m fine, Mr. Cullen,” she replied with a tiny shrug. “I’m just trying to get into character.”

“Need any help?” As I asked, my eyes roamed over her—she looked exquisite. Her hair, which normally would be in a ponytail, fell loose over her shoulders in a mass of dark curls. She wore a long, white button-down shirt, something her character would wear to bed. However, the discomfort of being so exposed was clear in Isabella’s features, no doubt wishing she could instead be dressed in her usual attire on set—a comfortable pair of jeans and a hoodie. Her bare feet were tucked beneath her, pressing her long legs firmly together, but even when she tried to tug the shirt down more, it still left little to the imagination.

Isabella tossed the script aside and let her head fall back as she exhaled harshly. “I’m not really worried about the sex scene as much as slapping the man.” Internally, I grinned. Of course she’d be worried about hurting someone. “The sex is pretend, but that slap will be real. Not to mention that I have to cuss.”

Could she be any sweeter?

I laughed. “That’s what you’re worried about?” When she nodded and her narrowed gaze bore into my own, I knew she was serious. “Okay, sit up.” I sat beside her and cocked an eyebrow. “Repeat after me.” Her lips thinned as did her gaze, but she squared her shoulders, tipped up her chin, ready to comply. “Shit. Fuck. Hell. Asshole. Bitch. Dick. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.”

A corner of her bottom lip slipped between her teeth, and I noticed that her breathing had changed. I took a deep breath to compose myself, because the situation seemed to have taken a wrong turn. I had come in here to calm her, and instead, she appeared even more nervous.

“Repeat that again, please?” she asked softly, watching me closely. And as I repeated, I realized that she was watching my mouth. I closed my eyes, knowing I had to leave immediately before I did something that would further delay the shoot.

I cleared my throat, since she had gone completely silent. “Shit. F-fuck. Hell. Asshole. B-Bitch. Dick. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.”

Leave now, Cullen! No wonder she’d gone mute when I said the words. Her mouth looked edible as her teeth scraped over her bottom lip when she said “fuck.”

I swallowed and stood up immediately. “See, Isabella,” I said, clearing my throat again. It had suddenly gone dry. “You’ll do fine.”

She smirked as if she knew what was wrong with me when I turned to leave. Before I did, however, I pressed a kiss to her forehead. And it served its purpose. She sighed softly and as I left, I could see that she visibly relaxed. Too bad it had the opposite effect on me.

Oooh, evidently there is good off-screen chemistry between these two – without the need for acting skills.  One of the things I like most about this fic is how the sweet, Oscar winning Bella, handles the talentless, arrogant James.  Best of all though, has to be Edward’s reaction to watching the push-pull, and the passion play out before his eyes; is he envisaging his own private trailer scene? *snicker*

Just Life the Movies by DeltaSwan90

Just Like the Movies ~ Edward is a famous actor who isn’t satisfied with his life. He and his good friend Alice are off to film the newest superhero flick. After a fight with his boss, he ends up meeting someone who may just change the way he feels about his life. AU/AH ExB

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Friendship/Romance – Chapters: 13 – Words: 45,299 – Reviews: 480 – Updated: 2-8-09 – Published: 1-6-09 – Edward & Bella – Complete

Edward, Hollywood’s golden boy, became friends with Alice in their early days as struggling unknowns, and, in an act of kindness, so she wouldn’t be alone, he took her home to his family one Thanksgiving.  It was love at first sight for her and Edward’s younger brother Jasper, and, it was as Edward so eloquently put it “…just like a fucking movie.”

Although, to the observer, Edward is leading the perfect life, he admits to himself:

I have steady work and a hefty paycheck. My family is caring and involved with my life. I have a good friend in Alice. And I have a girlfriend.

I have every reason in the world to be happy.

But, I’m not.”

No, Edward is not happy: he seems somewhat disillusioned and cynical with the world in general, and Hollywood life in particular, as he accepts that for the majority of people, including himself, life is not like the movies…very few people get their happily ever after.  Then he sees and hears the sweet, down-to-earth Bella; he is impressed by her kindness and an awareness of hope that it sparks within him.  He returns to the same place – a small, quiet restaurant – the same time the following week; his excuse being he found the place peaceful, but really, he hopes to bump into Bella – which he quite literally does…

“Are you alright?” I asked her.

“Yes, I’m sorry,” she apologized again. “I wasn’t watching where I was going. Are you alright?” She looked up at me, and I met her gaze for the very first time. Her eyes were lovely, a warm, deep shade of chocolate brown. But what was most interesting to me was that she wasn’t wearing any make up. I didn’t know a single woman who didn’t wear make -up in public. What actually arrested my attention was that she didn’t need any make-up. She was heart-breakingly beautiful. Her face was pale and heart shaped; her lips were full. She looked… just a little sad. Luckily, I remembered myself and the fact that she had asked me a question.

Interestingly, each one of the 13 chapters is named with a movie title that is representative of the chapter content and moves the story and friendship forward, with the requisite evil ex, shallow girlfriend, good friends, and even ‘that’s what she said’ jokes, until at last, Edward discovers love and romance just like the movies. I stand by the review I left for the final chapter back in 2011. Yep, a cheesy ending – just like in the movies, brilliant!

The Counsellor by Michaelmas54

The Counsellor ~ Edward is a successful Hollywood actor, but is on the edge of a breakdown. His personal & professional life have been controlled by people who think of him as a commodity & when he loses the girl he loves because of this he walks away from his responsibilities, but finds help in the nick of time in an unusual place from a strange woman. Rated M for Lemons, Language and some Laughs.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Drama – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 35 – Words: 89,493 – Reviews: 193 – Favs: 155 – Follows: 77 – Updated: 06-09-13 – Published: 06-08-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9370544

Michaelmas54 is a new-to-me author who posted this lovely-and complete-fic over a very short period. The first chapter really caught my imagination and I felt myself hurting so badly for Edward; a rich, successful actor in his prime, and yet his life is not his own. His decisions, both professional and personal, are out of his control.

Chapter One thrusts us right into the drama that is his life when we watch him run, literally for his sanity and life, just as he’s due to face a room full of journalists. His anguish is palpable. Thankfully, the person he quite literally, bumps into, is the perfect person at the crucial moment – offering him a safe haven before he completely falls apart.

“The woman took her car keys from his hand and then looked up at his face as if to say something but instead she looked intently into the eyes of the stunningly handsome young man before her and gasped, but it was not the gasp of recognition he was used to, it was a gasp of concern and pity.

Her right hand moved up and touched his shoulder and then she raised it further up to his face, delicately touching the dark shadows under a pair of red-rimmed but still beautiful grey eyes. “I am fine” she said in a soft whisper, “but I would guess you’re the one here who is hurting the most?”

He was transfixed as he allowed her to touch him. The gentle caress of her hand on his cheek and the caring tone in her voice triggered something inside of him, something he had not felt since the last time he saw his grandmother. He looked down into this strange woman’s eyes and said in a voice breaking with emotion “I do need help – I need to get away from here” and then he bent his head onto her shoulder and started to sob.

Michaelmas54 takes us on the journey of Edward’s life since he became famous to his breaking point when he puts his trust in a stranger. A stranger who cares more about him than those paid to do so…and gently helps him to unravel the mess surrounding him.

So, who is The Counsellor? Not who you think! But she does help him find his way back to himself, and a way to regain both his life and his love. He’s a beautiful, broken Actorward, it’s impossible not to will him to heal.

Finding Himself by Minisinoo

Finding Himself ~ The-Boy-Who-Almost-Died has to figure out what it means that he didn’t. Harry’s tumultuous 5th year at Hogwarts is Cedric’s 7th and final. Bound together by shared trauma, both boys fall under Ministry suspicion … Who is Cedric Diggory? Cedric!Lives AU

Rated: Fiction M – English – Suspense/Romance – Cedric D. & Hermione G. – Chapters: 40 – Words: 350,952 – Reviews: 665 – Favs: 1,022 – Follows: 184 – Updated: 11-19-08 – Published: 10-13-08 – Status: Complete – id: 4594634

I’m so excited to share my love of this story with you today…it’s one of my all-time top 5 favourite fics.  Needless to say, the other 4 places are taken by beloved Twilight stories, you know, I even surprised myself by ranking another fic genre so highly.  Now that I think about it, I know why this magnificent novel, yes, novel, for that’s what it is, earned that coveted position.  I was stunned when I first read this story a few years ago, and the feelings invoked by it have not faded from my memory.  I’ve got to be honest here and confess to you, while I read and enjoyed all the Harry Potter books and saw all the films, it was the lure of Cedric that initially drew me to Finding Himself.  Don’t judge me – you cannot deny he was gorgeous in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. LOL

There are many reasons why Finding Himself is one of my favourites, but what stands head and shoulders above the others is the brilliant presentation of the absolutely beautiful love story depicted between Cedric and Hermione. Honestly, it rivals that of Edward and Bella, and in fact, in some ways it’s a lot healthier.  The romance is sweet, can be fun, and as they fall deeply in-love they remain their own people.  I admire the way they grow as individuals as they overcome their problems, and how their friendship with others is also enriched as their relationship develops.  The lemons in this fic are lovely, loving and imperative…as they say, it’s always the quiet ones!  “The Room of Requirement” comes in pretty handy, js.  Maybe I’m wearing rose lemon tinted glasses here because I’m so behind their relationship and truthfully, I’m in love with their love story.  Have a look at their first kiss…

He leaned back in and she really wished he’d just kiss her. She could feel his breath on her lips as he said, “Not in the least. Why do you think I asked you to Hogsmeade? Maybe they’ll leave me alone when they see I’m already very, very…very…taken.”

And she felt his mouth brush hers, faint as butterfly wings. It almost wasn’t a kiss, but it shook her from the roots of her hair to the ends of her toes. Then he was pulling away yet again. “Don’t do that,” she said, reaching out to grip the back of his neck and yank his head down forcefully. This time, there was no almost touch. His mouth hit hers hard; he’d nearly overbalanced and had to recover himself. Then she forgot about books and lockets and nicknames, and everything, really. Cedric Diggory knew how to give a kiss, all lips, a little tongue and complete immersion in the moment. It was very different from kissing Viktor. (And maybe she shouldn’t compare them, but couldn’t help it.)

Viktor had kissed like a Seeker, and she was the Snitch – elusive, precious, delicate . . . but his goal. His passion had overwhelmed, even if she’d never felt pressured to give him more than kisses. She’d felt flattered, swept off her feet, but not quite his equal, really.

Cedric kissed like it was a conversation – give and take, exploratory, sensual, even a bit sloppy because he wasn’t thinking of how it looked, only how it felt. He tried things that might have made her laugh – like sucking her tongue or nibbling her lower lip – but which turned her inside out instead. Cedric kissed like somebody who wanted to be kissed back.

If you are familiar with the Harry Potter series you will recognise Finding Himself as an AU rewrite of the Order of the Phoenix with a different focus and new storylines perfectly interwoven with the original.  In this world, Cedric didn’t die in the graveyard – he was hit by a dreadful debilitating curse that will eventually leave him paralysed.  18 year-old Cedric and the 16 year-old Harry have formed an unlikely friendship as they are forever bound by their shared nightmare encounter with *lowers voice* he who shall not be named.  The usual shenanigans still go on at the Ministry though, and the vile Professor Umbridge, in all her pink-suited glory, is still a sicko – this time Cedric is top of her most-wanted list.  Dumbeldore’s Army is still formed, as is S.P.E.W. – you couldn’t leave out that unfortunately named society.  The history and the ethos of the House of Hufflepuff is shown and it becomes obvious why it’s a House to be proud of…why it’s the House of a Hogwart’s Champion.

If you are not at all familiar with the world of Harry Potter, never mind, you don’t need to be.  Simply enjoy it as a story of “coming of age” set against the backdrop of a tumultuous time in the world, a time of parallel crises for both Muggles* and wizards.  A classic love story of two young people who hail from completely different backgrounds.  It’s about friendships and family bonds, and standing up for who and what you believe in.  It’s the tale of a noble young man hit by personal tragedy, falling in-love for the first time, being challenged to do the right thing…it’s the story of a young man Finding Himself.

Infinite Visibility by TheFicChick

Infinite Visibility ~ “Bella, I’m not perfect.” “I’ve loved perfect before, and he broke me anyway.” (A “Twilight”/”Remember Me” crossover.)

Rated: Fiction M – English – Drama – Chapters: 8 – Words: 45,297 – Reviews: 590 – Favs: 330 – Follows: 455 – Updated: 07-07-13 – Published: 04-13-13 – id: 9198986

Infinite Visibility

We’ll let blood build a bridge over mountains draped in stars

I’ll meet you on the ridge between these worlds apart

We’ve got this moment now to live, then it’s all just dust and dark

Let’s let love give what it gives.”

TheFicChick says, “I play around with timelines a little bit here. In this story, the events of ‘Twilight’ and ‘New Moon’ take place in 1999, not in the 2000s, which is how that universe intersects with the ‘Remember Me’ universe.” Well, I say the universes of Twilight and Remember Me do more than intersect, they blend seamlessly together and they become a perfect whole.  Infinite Visibility is a wonderful and believable love story between Tyler and Bella set against the perfect mesh of canon from both original stories – my hat is off to TheFicChick and her way with words for achieving this so masterfully.

Edward pulled his New Moon disappearing trick and eventually Bella moved on with her life, as per his request.  She matured and developed into a lovely young woman and her desire for a complete change, a concrete jungle, led her to New York to attend college.  Edward has not been forgotten – her scars run much deeper than the physical one James inflicted in Twilight – but, with time and new experiences comes the epiphany that Edward was right…

That night is the first night since September that she dreams of Edward, the ethereal, self-proclaimed demon standing against a dreary backdrop, orchestrating his own isolation.

This is the last time you’ll ever see me. I won’t come back.

It’s the first night that she dreams the dream through and doesn’t wake up screaming.

It will be like I never existed. I promise.

It’s the first time in all the times she’s had the dream that she’s still standing when he walks away.

You just don’t belong in my world, Bella.

It isn’t until she’s bumping along in a cab headed for JFK the following morning that the realization comes: he no longer belongs in hers, either.

One thing about Bella that has not changed, however, is her love for the written word, and so she is enticed to the Strand Bookstore by its claim to have eighteen miles of books, only to receive the shock of her life when she asks…

“Excuse me; do you have Virgil’s Doomed Love?”

The boy turns to face her, and she sucks in a breath. At first glance, he’s too similar, too close a replica, too familiar, and all of the contentment that had cocooned her like cotton is torn away, leaving her feeling as though she’s been stripped and sucker-punched. She stares at him for a moment, mouth agape, before spinning and dashing up the long aisle, hearing a faint “What the hell?” coming from the boy behind her as she flees. Darting around the tables near the entrance and nearly tripping over a stroller near the checkout counter, she finally bursts through the exit and onto the crowded sidewalk.

“Watch it,” a guy with a steaming paper cup of coffee mutters as he sidesteps her, and she mutters an apology as she takes in gulping breaths, clutching one of the carts of discounted books with her bare hand, the ice-cold metal burning the skin of her palm. She lets the dull ache in her hand ground her as she navigates a sea of sensation: she feels unsettled, blindsided, as if she’s seen a ghost. It’s impossible. Patently impossible, because while the moment that she’d stared into the stranger’s face was fleeting, it was long enough for her to absorb details: the all-too-human flush of his cheeks, the blue-green of his eyes. Just a likeness, she tells herself as her breathing and her heartbeat try to regulate themselves. That’s all.

“Hey.” The voice floats over her shoulder, and her still-stuttering heart picks up the tempo, now positively hammering against her ribs as if fighting for its freedom. “Are you okay?” the look-alike asks, and she turns, half-convinced that her momentary vision had been a trick of dim lighting. Those blue-green eyes narrow, a heavy brow creased in concern.

Blue-green eyes, she wills herself to remember. Not gold. It is this detail she latches onto as she nods, but the boy is still frowning. “Are you sure? Because you kind of look like hell.”

A bark of surprised laughter escapes her lips as she stares at his face, and if she needed further assurance that the person before her was far removed from his vampire doppelganger, those rather blunt words were it.

The Edward look-a-like…who eventually persuades her to meet him for coffee… is none other than the utterly charming Tyler Hawkins.  This imperfect human is one of the good guys, he has a sensitive soul and even with a lot of baggage – or maybe because of it, he is perfect for Bella.  Their understanding of the other’s pain and the tender emotional connection they develop is lovely to witness.  To quote Kelsey, Bella’s roommate, “Every great love affair starts with something as innocuous as coffee,” and you know what – I think she is right.

This enchanting and sensuous story is creeping slowing towards September and I’m reminded of the powerful prologue (in an unknown POV), which causes me to pose as yet unanswered questions.

Stepping toward the nearest of the two square pools, I can feel the faintest spray on my face, very nearly unnoticeable. Closing my eyes, I let my hipbones rest against the bronze parapet, breathe in the faintly damp air. When I open them, a barely-there rainbow appears in the mist cast off by the falling water. The sky is a perfect, robin’s egg blue, its brilliance reflected in the gleaming new architecture bordering this now-open space. Mirrored glass reflecting light, reflecting perfect blue skies, reflecting billowing white clouds and bright spring sunshine. Perfect tranquility where there was once chaotic devastation.

I squint as I stare upward, the parapet unforgiving against my bony hips, and to either side of me, people reach out and touch engraved names with single fingertips and entire palms. I don’t touch the name etched in front of me; instead, I bring my palm up to my sternum and press it flat against the space where my heart beats steadily in my chest beneath wool coat and fleece top and cotton bra before sliding it down and beneath my arm, above xylophone ribs and inked skin. My face still tipped toward the sky, I close my eyes and remember. A perfect blue canvas marred by twin curls of acrid smoke, then a billowing cloud of dust, the everyday sounds of the city yielding to the roar of destruction and pealing screams of terror.

As I stand blind, hand registering only the faintest echo of my own heartbeat, I do what I’ve made it my life’s mission not to do: I look back.

I remember.

I don’t mean to sound cryptic; I genuinely have no idea how this story will end and TBH, I’m a little afraid that there may be heartbreak ahead – for me, as well as the characters.  Regardless, I’ve been captivated by this love story and nothing is going to stop me reading.  Don’t let it stop you either.

How To Be More by deb24601

How To Be More ~ Art, from How to Be, toils at the grocer’s, missing his ex-girlfriend, Jessica. He’s amazed when she shows up and determined to be the ‘more’ she’s asking for. Entry in Robnipulations You Fic it We Nip it Contest. One-shot.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Humor – Words: 5,393 – Reviews: 12 – Favs: 18 – Follows: 6 – Published: 07-12-10 – Status: Complete – id: 6134646

The story starts gently with Art at work a supermarket. Please note – I am not fantasising over Art’s delectable derriere delightfully protruding up in the air as he leans over to stick his head in the freezer.

*clears throat* As I was saying – this is how the fic opens…

Another day at the mind-numbing, soul-sucking grocer’s. Doing a job a monkey could do. Stocking shelves, pricing merchandise, and trying to avoid thinking… about Jessica. She’d dumped me, kicking me out of her apartment in the process. My parents aren’t terribly happy to have me home again. My music isn’t going well either and my mates are always frustrated with me.

Apparently I’m not much fun to be around.

Oh, Art!  If you’ve had the pleasure of seeing the film How to Be, you are probably nodding your head in agreement and smiling in recognition, as this is so typical of adorkable Art’s behaviour; deb24601 captures him perfectly in all his lovable quirkiness.  The How to Be film tagline ‘sometimes we all need a little help’ must have struck a chord with the lovely deb24601, as she, in a stroke of genius, uses Jessica (the ex-girlfriend – not to be confused with Twi Jessica of the IKR fame) as a conduit to do just that.  She presents him with a challenge, boosts his self-esteem, and then she sits lies back and reaps the reward. Lucky lady (Jessica not Deb) as Art rises magnificently to the occasion IYKWIM!

This hilarious one-shot has pervy old dears, and a hard, frozen penis, but even that’s not enough to stop this Art from being hot!  Now, there is a sentence I never thought I’d write. This Art is definitely more!

Imprudence and Gratification by Hank’s Lady

Imprudence and Gratification ~ Eric Packer, billionaire financier, is expecting his physician to give him his daily medical exam. Amusement and naughtiness ensues when Dr Black sends his son Jacob to undertake the exam instead. Slash one-shot.

While sitting in a darkened cinema munching on popcorn as I watched Cosmopolis for the first time, there was one question at the forefront of my mind.  No!  It wasn’t: Did Rob really pee in the limo?  Although… *snickers*

The burning question at the forefront of my admittedly, somewhat perverted mind was: How did Eric really feel about his daily rectal examination? …But then that made me wonder: Did he gain more than the satisfaction and relief of knowing his prostrate was normal?

In this hot Cosmopolis/Twilight crossover light-hearted one-shot, the young, gay, newly qualified, Dr. Jacob Black climbs in to the limo to perform the personal procedure as it slowly makes its way across town.

Clearing my throat slightly, I lowered his shorts to uncover firm buttocks, snapped on the gloves quickly and applied lube to the fingers of my right hand. My cock twitched slightly and I grimaced, trying to remember I was a professional and the sexy naked ass in front of me was part of my job.

Raising my left hand, I tentatively spread his buttocks to reveal the tight puckered hole, noting the area leading towards his scrotum was hairless and smooth as if he had carefully shaved it – or paid someone to do it for him. I circled his hole with a lubed finger and noticed him stiffen slightly, thighs tensing.

“Breathe out and relax, Sir, I’ll try to make this as painless as possible,” I said quietly.

‘And as pleasurable as I can manage.’ I squashed the amusing thought and reminded myself again that I was a doctor.

Mmm!  Who can resist a doctor with such a good beside manner? *cough cough*

If you want to discover how Hank’s Lady’s luscious vision of Eric feels about his err…close encounter with Jacob, hop in the back of the limo to take the ride too – it has blackened out glass, js.

Water for Elephants Oneshot by that kiwi chick

Water for Elephants Oneshot ~ “Water for the elephant, or alcohol?” Jacob asked with a smirk, balancing the bottle in one hand and the water bucket in the other. Rosie did her elephant smile and pointed at the alcohol with her long trunk” Jacob/Marlena, Walter their son & Rosie fluff!

Rated: Fiction K+ – English – Family/Friendship – Jacob & Marlena – Words: 1,182 – Reviews: 12 – Favs: 26 – Follows: 3 – Published: 05-24-11 – Status: Complete – id: 7017584

Have you ever watched that few seconds of home video at the end of the Water for Elephants film and thought Jacob holding Walter was the cutest thing ever?  I know I have.  This sweet and fluffy one-shot showcases a few precious minutes of everyday life for the Jankowski family; it’s just how I imagined it to be.  *Happy sigh!*

“Whoa this is so high!” The small child cried, clapping his hands together and wriggling around on top of the massive animal he was sitting on. “Good girl, Rosie.” He praised, patting her wrinkled grey shoulder.

Marlena smiled and snuggled closer into her husband’s side, feeling the weight of his chin on top of her head and his breath in her hair. He ran his hands down her side, letting them come to rest on her swollen belly. She placed her smaller hand atop his and smiled at the look of awe on his face when the baby kicked at his hand.

Queenie ran in circles around Rosie’s sitting form, trying to grab the attention she wasn’t getting. Jacob and Marlena were too wrapped up in each other and Walter was still babbling on to the huge elephant and hugging her neck.

“Come here, Queenie.” Jacob commanded, chuckling at the sparkle in the old dog’s eye as she leapt into his waiting arms. Her little stub of a tail wiggled back and forth and she nuzzled into her owner’s neck and snuggled into his arms.

that kiwi chick has captured the warm and fun-loving characters of Jacob, Marlena, and Rosie perfectly.  While it’s lovely to see the obvious deep emotions between all the humans and animals, it’s our beloved Rosie and her antics who steals the scene.  This one-shot is very short at 1,182 words, but that is all it took for that kiwi chick to put a smile upon my face.

Last, but definitely not least, is our beloved Edward, after all…

that’s why we are here.

One Night Stand in Locked Down London by BlueIsSoul

One Night Stand in Locked Down LondonA disinterested, paranoid girl. A wealthy journalist with only one thing on his mind. Too much alcohol. A serial killer on the loose. Here’s the problem with a one-night stand in locked-down London.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Humor/Romance – Chapters: 4 – Words: 15,126 – Reviews: 215 – Favs: 328 – Follows: 669 – Updated: 06-15-13 – Published: 05-13-13 – id: 9290753

When BlueIsSoul asked me to pre-read her new story, she directed me towards an article that acted as the inspiration and appeared on Esquire.com. The piece basically centers on a guy who had the misfortune of finding himself after a one night stand unable to sneak out of the other party’s apartment during the terrifying lock down the recent bombing at the marathon caused. While the story surrounding the event is of course a tragedy, the article showed the odder side of what Boston inhabitants were going through while unable to leave wherever they had found themselves.

This got BlueIsSoul thinking. What if a British, cocky bloke of a fellow got stuck with a girl he thinks might be just this side of crazy, and caught in a similar situation? In this case, it’s an escaped serial killer that’s on the loose and wreaking havoc for the citizens of London, who are out and about, unaware they are about to be trapped.

We’ve read of the player Edward, and the arrogant Edward, but this Edward is in a class all his own. There are rules he feels men should follow, and he’s the best of the best.  He’s completely unaffected by the situation surrounding him and in fact, out drinking with his buddy Emmett when he finds himself in a bit of a predicament.

Edward’s problem is the girl that Emmett’s hook up has left him with; a Bella so paranoid about everything, she’s consumed with the thought that the serial killer is lurking behind every corner, ready to strike.

“Charlie – my dad – tried to take me to the doctor, because he thought it could be a real issue or something. I don’t go though. I mean, I’ll be labeled, and that’s when things become concrete. It’s almost like then I’ll really have something, you know what I mean?”

“Like a diagnosis?”

“…of paranoia?”

She nods. “Yeah.”

I take a sip from my pint. What do you say to someone who’s kind of admitted they choose not to go the doctor because they think they might possibly be crazy?

So I say just that.

“Then I fixate… on things, people,” she says conversationally, “men mainly.”

My psycho-chick-homing-device explodes.

There are alarms blaring and shit.

Get set, Edward. Go.

Run for your life.

I wipe my forehead with my palm. I’m a little sweaty. All of a sudden I think I’m finding it difficult to breathe.

I’m still here though.

He knows he should leave. He knows he should wipe his hands of her and follow Rule #3, the most important of his rules: You shall make sure that she is relatively sane before you take old one eye to the optometrist.

What ensues is some of the most fun, effortless banter I’ve read in a long time. An Edward who is strangely fascinated by a girl who seems so uninterested in him she’s quite disdainful towards the bugger, who she assumes the worst of based on very few facts and appearance alone.

Edward’s fascination grows as the banter turns more…sexual in nature, as Bella and Edward continue to drink long after their friends have left.

“Tell me,” she commands, like it’s her privileged right to know these things.

“It’s something I’ve always thought was real hot you know, kinda like–”

Come on Edward, fucking enlighten me before I fall into a coma. Stop with the pathetic, pussiness.

I catch a hint of a smile before it turns into her usual someone-just-killed-my-cat expression.

She’s teasing now.

“I like a girl with a potty mouth. Keep it coming angel.”

“What about it?” I’m so wity.

After some great back and forth I’ll leave for you to discover, and making her work for it, Edward finally admits to the good stuff.

I shake myself out the pep talk and gaze into her unsteady eyes.

“Okay. Um, so let’s say there are a lot of people who are there, but they don’t necessarily have to you know, participate.”

I watch her reaction, amused. Her eyes are now large saucers. “What do you mean?” It’s a whisper.

“Being watched when having sex.” My voice is gritty. “Rough, hard sex. There’s something illicit, something sexy about it. It turns me on.”

Bella, being Bella, doesn’t give in too easy, but Edward is persistent. The first chapter gives you a glimpse of what kind of a night he’s got in store for him (and a taste of the odd fantasy Bella has) when he pursues the one night stand against his better judgment. You, like me, will be enthralled with the journey and dying for the city to lock down already.

BlueIsSoul’s writing is snappy, fresh, and purposeful. Being from London allows for the fun British tinge she’s given this story, something I’m particularly enjoying. It surrounds everything, and places you directly on that side of the pond. You can practically feel the warm pint on your tongue and smell the fish and chips on the table as Edward and Bella get ready to have a night neither will be able to forget (or leave, as the title suggests).

Even though it’s only going to be a few chapters in length, it promises to pack a punch.
