The Essence of Edward…

We’re not talking of a man’s cologne here – although, if it could be bottled we’re sure it would have the potential to outsell even Dior Homme, and we know we’d buy it. *grins* We mean the other type of essence…the very quality that makes Edward who he is…that makes him so special, so Edward. It doesn’t matter if he has a cold, dead heart or not, what matters to us is how Edward, in whatever form we read him, gets our hearts beating.

These Edwards, their embodiment – soul, personality, intrinsic nature, life, legacy, era – do vary. But all  the diverse Edwards today, we find in fanfiction, have those requisite attributes which characterise this much loved, immortalized character. They have that “je ne sais quoi” that keeps us coming back for more, time and again! Please enjoy!

Look How You Turned Out ~ If I was going to write another story it would be something like this…

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 45 – Words: 49,861 – Reviews: 4,040 – Favs: 584 – Follows: 900 – Updated: Dec 3 – Published: Nov 6 – id: 9826376

Talk about an Edward that has that essence, that je ne sais quoi, and my mind immediately goes to Edward from Counselor’s Look How You Turned Out.

I’ve totally fallen in love with this Edward, just like I originally fell in love with Edward because he was so perfectly not perfect (no matter what SM’s Bella said).

Counselor’s LHYTO Edward is in love with Bella, but just like Originalward was so darn self-sacrificing that he chose to run off rather than hurt Bella, or give her up to Jake rather than take her away from her human life, this Edward is just as self-sacrificing, and you know what? I love that. (Up to a point, of course.)  There haven’t been many self-sacrificing Edward’s in fan fiction lately, and Counselor’s is like a breath of fresh air.

LHYTO Edward loves Bella secretly, believing he’s too old for her, or that she shouldn’t be tied down to Forks while she’s still so young. So he watches her leave, though it breaks his heart:

See, I’ve faced it. I have. Bella is in her big city days, her take on the world days, her let’s see what I can do, days. And she should be. She’s young, hell she’s brilliant. Why shouldn’t she get to take off and fly. She doesn’t need some old guy with a kid, a great kid, but someone else’s kid…she doesn’t need that. Or want it. She liked Juney but she never even thought of being a mom. She broke his heart but it couldn’t be helped. She had a right to go to college. A right to move to Chicago. She didn’t abandon us, that’s what I had to keep telling him.

See? Self-sacrificing.

But even with all that, he’s not perfect. He makes stupid mistakes just like Originalward did. Like starting a relationship with another woman just because he thought he couldn’t have Bella. And then letting that woman go on and on about their relationship possibly taking on a more serious turn, like marriage, even though he knew he didn’t care about her nearly enough for that.

“You asked if it’s serious. It is. She’s…she wants to get married.”

I stop again. “She…wants to get married,” I repeat like I’m translating. “What about you? You?”

“I’m…thinking about it.”

I make a silent ‘o,’ then take off walking again.

“That’s normal behavior, Bella. I’m being normal.”

“Great. Be normal,” I say over my shoulder as I run to my front door.

“I can count on her. She’ll stay,” he yells.

But you know what? That’s what makes this Edward so great; that he’s so silly sometimes, and so blindly in love that he doesn’t stop to think of the consequences, just like Originalward didn’t at times.

Yet he’s Edward, and so he’ll come to his senses, and just like Originalward, he doesn’t do things halfway; he does them epically:

It’s a few seconds, then it buzzes. “Marry me.”

When I don’t answer right away he texts, “Where’s your big balls now?”

I don’t answer. I think he’s joking. After all, we were joking and I texted my home made ass and he joke-texted ‘marry me.’

“Meet me in the street.” Him

I shake the balls out of my pants, odd I know, and put them on and go to the mud room and stick my feet in my boots again and put on Charlie’s big jacket.

I hurry outside and he’s halfway down his walk and we meet in the middle of the road. His hands slide into the open sides of the coat and he’s not wearing any protective weather stuff, just his t-shirt still damp from his run.

“Are you joking?” I ask right away. “You are, right?”

He doesn’t say anything.

“Was it a joke?” me

“Do you want it to be?”

“Oh no buddy. You are so going out on a limb on this one.”

“Just trying to get a reaction,” he says.

“Like…hysterical…or what?”

“Is it such a bad idea?”

“You were joking, right? You don’t use that as a test run.”

“What if I didn’t?”

“Just joking, right?”

“What if it wasn’t?”

And this here is another thing that I love about this Edward and reminds me of Originalward: he’s so darn ready to tie the knot, to jump all the way in, to stop wasting time on stupid dating and conventionalities. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I suppose in real life doing some dating before getting married makes sense, but hey, this is fiction, and just like Originalward made me swoon with how ready he was to make it forever once he’d realized he couldn’t live without Bella, LHYTO Edward makes my heart go pitter-patter too, ready to jump in with both feet once he realizes he can have the girl of his dreams. And isn’t that why we read fan fiction, for that feeling of utter and complete love that Edward originally gave us?

LHYTO Edward does the same.

Edward, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways..”

All That Jazz ~ Set in 1919. Meet orphan sisters, Bella and Alice Swan, as they journey to Chicago to meet their Aunt Esme, brazen, disowned sister of their mother. Join Bella as she learns the true meaning of marriage and love. M for adult themes and later lemons. AH/AU

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Angst – Chapters: 23 – Words: 184,134 – Reviews: 1983 – Updated: 5-30-11 – Published: 4-27-10 – Bella, Edward – Complete

A heart, full of joy and gladness,

Will always banish sadness and strife.

So always look for the silver lining,

And try to find the sunny side of life.

Look for the Silver Lining,” by Jerome Kern (1919)

(Each chapter opens with a snippet of song lyric from the era. A lovely touch!)

As the name suggests, this story is set in Chicago during the birth of the Jazz Age…radio, big-bands, motor cars, bobs, dancing, Hollywood, Flappers, prohibition, speak-easies and all that jazz. What an amazing time to have lived!

This Golden Age wasn’t all golden for everyone though; organised crime was rife, workers and women’s rights were woeful and being fought for with vigour. There was an ongoing struggle between the generations too; the willful disregard of social etiquette by youth engaging in such acts as smoking in public and – wait for it – young ladies holding men’s hands without wearing gloves! Shocking!

This is the world a sheltered Bella and Alice enter following the death of their mother Renee, who, IMHO, gave the girls an upbringing that bordered on abusive, but enough of that.  Their individual demeanor upon arrival in vibrant and bustling Chicago, to embark on a new life with the Cullens, and indeed their attitude to it, couldn’t be more different, but the sibling bond and its development within the new family dynamics was both fascinating and a pleasure to read. Not surprising given her life experience – or lack of it – Bella was wholly discombobulated by her reaction to meeting the young Edward Masen…

The young man sitting behind the piano was like nothing I had ever seen before. The light from the window wall behind him came in in golden shafts that seemed to set his hair on fire. It was the most unique shade of bronze. As he played, he kept his eyes closed and a near beatific smile on his face. He moved his upper body in time with the music, his unruly hair falling in and out of his face.

I stepped forward, wanting to get closer to the music. I kept telling myself over and over again it was the music which was drawing me in. I was so focused on the beautiful piano player, I didn’t see the plant holders lining the side of the room. My foot caught in one of the holders, causing three of the empty pots to clatter the ground. I followed quickly after.

The music stopped abruptly and too quickly I was being lifted to my feet by a pair of warm hands. I looked up into eyes the color of jade flecked with ebony and gold. They were fascinating in themselves. I had to shake my head in order to clear the haze.

“Are you alright?” he asked.

I nodded, my head feeling light.

“You took quite a spill; are you sure I can’t help you to a seat?”

I was never more ungrateful for my propensity to blush. I couldn’t help the torrent of red I felt creeping up my neck as I listened to his words and watched his mouth move. I immediately chastised myself for being so immoral as to watch a stranger’s mouth move. It was unthinkable. I vaguely recognized that he was still talking and that he had let me go; something within me that I didn’t recognize was sad not to feel his too-warm hands on me any longer.

Ooh, I think I’d be a bit discombobulated too! As when I read that scene, the wonderful, descriptive writing had me living right in the moment.

So, Edward Masen. Gah! He has what it takes, you know, that essence, he exudes that special something that makes him an Unforgettableward. He is classic Edward…just how I imagine hope a human 1919 Edward would have been: intelligent, respectful, selfless, responsible, gallant, romantic, loving and a complete gentleman – even with the newly roused desire within him. Well, maybe not a complete gentleman…;)

I recommend this story for so many reasons, not least of which is Edward, but the perfectly captured setting of one of my favourite eras too, with its social engagements, and its coming of age struggles faced by both men and women. Javamomma9021 has been creative in her spin of the original characters, showing us Edward with his parents Elizabeth and Edward Masen, and, paralleling the growth of a duckling to a swan, the growth of a Swan to a Cullen, not forgetting a Jasper as you’ve never seen him before. I also adore the slow pace of Edward and Bella’s courtship and their physical intimacy – which bizarrely I found hot!

Oh to have a time machine, whether HG Wells style or à la Marty McFly. I’d happily forgo witnessing the momentous events of history in favour of sipping iced tea on the porch swing with this Edward. Sigh!

Shine On ~ Bella Swan-Bishop, a widow and mother to a young daughter Zoe, purchases an estate – ghost included. She gets a lot more than she bargained for when she hires handsome and very interested Edward Cullen as her landscape architect. Complete

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Drama – Chapters: 36 – Words: 178,381 – Reviews: 1290 – Updated: 11-27-12 – Published: 3-7-12 – Bella, Edward – Complete

For me, Shine On is first and foremost a story of relationships, whether between friends, lovers, or family, some simple…some complicated and complex. The backdrop of a beautiful home in need of renovation and its history, businesses – mostly a joy but one a burden, and the haunting by ghosts – one in the literal sense of the word and one in the metaphorical, add layers to the story but still allows the spotlight to shine on the characters.  And what beautifully written characters they are to complement a truly beguiling story.

Bella, a grieving widow, moves with her daughter to a large, old mansion with sweeping gardens…

BPOV from Chapter 1

I would need a landscape architect to take on this large of scale of project. The garden and orchard, the remnants of the maze, the small lake, and gazebo needed much work. I needed someone with vision to make it beautiful again. I turned and looked up at the deep red brick and sandy colored stone of my enormous home built in the Queen Anne style. It even had a name it was so impressive: Edenwick Park.

It had seemed a bit foolish to my dad when I had purchased this estate, but I had wanted it desperately the first time I laid eyes on it. I could easily afford it. David had been very rich and owned his own company, which I still held the controlling shares of. I had simply sold off all our other properties we owned: the yacht, everything I knew I’d never visit or use again, and bought Edenwick. I needed something new for my daughter and I, some place without any memories of David and where I could make a new life for the two of us.

As I said, for me this story is about relationships, and naturally, the most engaging one is between Bella and her chosen landscape architect, Edward. Having said that, the beautiful bond between Edward and Bella’s daughter, Zoe, brought a tear to my eye, and runs a very close second.

Bella tells us Edward is “a good man, a man of his word- but he’s so much more. He’s a loving man, a gentle man, a gifted and talented man, and so intelligent, a deep thinker.” Let’s meet him, after Bella has enchanted him, to see if you agree he is also a sensual man, a sexy man…

BPOV from Chapter 10

“Bella, baby, it’s my desire to always be close to you,” he said roughly as he gazed into my eyes.

He then slowly lowered his head, and I felt him place his lips on the sensitive skin on my neck. He didn’t rush as he skimmed his lips and tongue up and down what surely was my favorite erogenous zone. I closed my eyes, felt the throbbing between my legs, and heard the soft moan escape my mouth.

“Delicious Bella. I could eat you up,” he said as an unsteady whisper against my ear, and I felt the tremor go down my body.

I slightly turned my head and kissed him at that perfect spot, that little hollow at the base of his throat, before slightly skimming my tongue across his skin.

I pulled his head down and whispered in his ear, “Delicious Edward. I could lick you for days.”

He swore, and then I found myself swept up in his arms, held against his thumping heart.

Oh sweet Edward, you have my heart thumping too! Now have a peek at the following chapter from Edward’s point of view. Perhaps you should sit down first in case you swoon…

She turned to me and held out her hand, and as I slid my fingers between hers and looked down at her beautiful, smiling face, I realized that my love for her wasn’t an easy, sweet love, but an all-consuming, take-your-breath-away love. Make-you-do-stupid-things-and-put-a-burn-in-the-pit-of-your-stomach love. An uncomfortable, powerful, head-spinning love. I skimmed my eyes over her face and then closed my eyes, taking a deep, calming breath. Bella, my heart called out in joy.

What an Edward!

Now, I’ve probably given you the impression that everything is permantly rosy in the garden (pardon the pun) but no, Edward and Bella have thorny issues to overcome (sorry, I’ll stop now).  It’s only realistic for Bella to have difficulty moving on from her past, but I won’t deny there were a few times when Edward was frustrated with, and confused by, Bella and her behaviour, and to be honest, so was I.  Edward, sweet and patient as he is, has some learning to do about being in a serious relationship also, but the bitter just serves to make the sweet more potent in this wonderful tale.  Oh, did I forget to mention the lemons? Edward and Bella are both extremely horny and never miss an opportunity for sex.  No surface is out of bounds, but it’s never at the expense of the plot – it’s actually quite cute!  I really enjoyed my time with these lovely and loving characters…they shine on in my memory, and I think they will do the same for you, too.

Beyond Time by TKegl

Beyond Time ~ After the Cullens leave Forks, a twist of fate lands Bella in Chicago in 1918. She thinks it’s a second chance to build a life with Edward, but when she finds him, he’s not quite what she expected. Can Bella create the future she’s hoping for?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Drama/Romance – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 38 – Words: 295,570 – Reviews: 8,136 – Favs: 6,146 – Follows: 2,641 – Updated: Jun 4, 2011 – Published: Feb 17, 2010 – Status: Complete – id: 5755522

When Cared mentioned doing a post centered on the essence of Edward, there were numerous fantastic Twifics and brilliant Edwards that came to my mind, but one that stood out, for me, was Beyond Time by TKegl. The whole story has a special essence of not only Edward, but Twilight as well. From the New Moon canon storyline of vampire Edward leaving human Bella, to the time travel back to 1918 – Edward’s year of transformation – where we get to live in a world that incorporates a 17-year-old, human, green-eyed Edward *swoon*, vampire/doctor Carlisle before Edward was in his life, Spanish influenza and more; the spirit of what we’ve all loved and held dear in Edward’s world, in the Twilight Saga world, is all there, in some way, shape or form. The essence of Edward truly lives on in Beyond Time.

The story begins six months after Edward left Bella, but this Bella is a bit different – Jake even calls her “the new and improved badass Bella” – and she says, “I’m not an idiot. I knew he was lying. He does… did… love me and left because of some twisted obligation to protect me. It broke my heart. It pissed me off.” Yes, she is bitter, but she is also stronger, at least on the outside, and more “aware.” Nonetheless, one thing that did remain the same here is her relationship with Jacob. He was her rock, her best friend and even now, he is a huge part of her life. He is also the canon Quileute werewolf, and he wants Bella to partake in a tribal ritual. That is where she learns about the “Spirit Walk” or “vision quest” which is “…supposed to put him in touch with his spirit guide… show him his path, his destiny.” When Bella takes part, she experiences not only that “rite of passage” but a whole new world of spirituality and literally goes beyond time to one week later/92 years earlier and this is what she eventually sees…

*Chapter 1*: Prologue: Of Warm Skin and Wishful

I’d never really understood the phrase “my heart caught in my throat” until that moment.

For there he was.

And he looked exactly the same.

And he looked completely different.

I stood at the gate, my trembling hand resting on the painted wood, and took in the sight of him. His hair was the reddish-brown I remembered, but instead of wildly exploding around his head, he had tamed it with some sort of gel or pomade. Still, a few rebellious locks escaped, falling over his sweaty forehead as he worked.

He had removed his jacket and tie – I could see them tossed over the porch railing – and rolled up the sleeves of his crisp, white shirt. The corded muscles of his forearms tightened and released as he worked the shovel into the garden soil. My eyes wandered down his body, capturing flashes of images in the midst of my shock – the crisp pleats on the front of his trousers, the smudge of dirt above his knee, the scuffed brown shoe pushing forcefully on the blade of the shovel.

He paused, lifting a gloved hand to his forehead, wiping away the sweat on his brow, frowning at the stubborn stump before him. Suddenly he stiffened, as if realizing he was being watched.

And he turned in my direction.

And I gasped.

I had always loved his eyes – whether they were black with thirst or amber with satiation. But these eyes were neither of those things.

I knew they wouldn’t be, that this wasn’t the Edward I knew.

Yet it still surprised me to see it in person. To see, instead of topaz or amber or black, a rich, dark green.

Carlisle had told me they’d been green.

Right now they regarded me warily, then curiously.

Still he said nothing. He just stood there, watching me. His gaze dipped down briefly before meeting mine once again. He colored slightly, a sheepish smile lighting his features.

Damn. He was checking me out.

I tried to draw a breath, but the tightness in my chest made it impossible.

I couldn’t even blame the damned corset this time.

He stood, loosely holding the shovel, and watched as I lifted the gate latch with a shaking hand, then slowly approached him. I drank him in thirstily, having been deprived of him for so long. With each step the hole in my heart constricted a little more and by the time I stood before him, it was like it never existed.

Without even realizing it, I reached out and his eyes widened in surprise. I hesitated only briefly before stroking my trembling fingers down his cheek.

His skin was not pale… not cold… not hard.

It was soft… and warm. Clean-shaven, yet his beard had started to grow back, tickling my fingers. My fingers trailed down his face to his full, pink lips.

I could feel his warm breath on my fingertips and my body burst into flames, as it always did when I was near him. Even after all this time, it remembered. Even though he was different, it remembered.

“Edward,” I whispered.

He replied quietly, “I’m sorry,” and my fingers tingled at the vibration of his mouth. Because although his voice missed the musical quality I’d come to know so well, the velvet tones still wrapped around his words in a familiar way.

His eyes locked on mine and my heart stopped again, my hand dropping to my side and a tear trickling down my cheeks at the next words to escape his lips.

“Do I know you?”

Oh, yes, my darling Edward, you know us… *wink* …and we know you, love you, covet you, and hold you dear in our hearts, now and…beyond this Twilight time. Believe me, you will not want to put down this complete and consuming story as you travel with Bella and venture into an alternative world and life through her mystical experience that transcends another time and place. It’s hard to explain the essence of it all here, but trust me…”It’s a wolf thing.” Join Bella on this adventurous and memorable journey!

Osa Bella by Myg

osa bella 2

Bella is a school counselor, but Edward is a vampire posing as a student. Will Bella defy her head and follow her heart? Or will she conquer her desire and do what she believes is right? Not your daughter’s/niece’s/little sister’s Twilight. Angsty.

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Fantasy – Chapters: 37 – Words: 185,919 – Reviews: 3577 – Favs: 2,742 – Follows: 1,785 – Updated: Sep 16, 2011 – Published: Jun 10, 2010 – Bella, Edward – Complete

It may seem strange to choose a story to review on the Essence of Edward post that is written entirely from Bella’s POV. But we fell in love with Meyer’s Edward through Bella’s eyes, and Osa Bella‘s Edward is even more intensely Edwardish than the original in my humble opinion.

I adore this story. Bella is employed at Forks High as the school psychologist. She already met, married and lost the love of her life to Afghanistan, and she’s an emotional wreck, but she’s good with the kids.  Except for one:

Then there was Edward. He was alone, aloof, bored, and usually appeared to be lost somewhere in his own head. It bothered me how he isolated himself. It wasn’t a good sign. Isolated kids are often depressed kids, the kind who one day show up in your office having taken a handful of pills, or who just stop showing up at all. He was, however, proving to be an excellent student, and had no disciplinary problems other than random smoking incidents outside on school grounds.  Some of the staff thought that marked him as a rebel. I wasn’t so sure.
I hadn’t had much interaction with Edward since that first day of school, but ever since I found myself noticing him constantly. His thick, brown hair was always a perfectly tousled mess. His eyes appeared to shift color, from black to toffee brown and back over days. He never spoke to anyone other than his family unless he was spoken to, and then he was quick to end the conversation. I wondered exactly what sort of chip he was carrying on his shoulder, given what little I understood of his ambiguous, unattached past.
What did I know about Edward? He’d been a foster child, which told me he might have been bounced around a lot as a kid. I had to guess he’d been abused or abandoned. And he had to be put in the system young—it was rare to get adopted from foster care once you were over the age of twelve. In fact it was hard to get into foster care at all once you were a teenager. He was clearly smart and obviously well mannered. Maybe he’d been adopted as a baby by the Cullens. But then, why was he so isolated and moody? Was there trouble at home? A genetic tendency towards depression or some other mood disorder?

No, Bella. He’s a vampire, hopelessly in love with you and he’s been 17 for a very, very long time.

Myg‘s Edward endures the torture of star-crossed love with great dignity and intelligence.  He is fiercely protective, dominating, tender, self-sacrificing, devoted, lustful, respectful and glorious. Bella is magnificent, but she has to go through an awful lot to grow into her mysterious magnificence; Edward follows her through every agony, subtly suggested by the author through our intimate knowledge of his essence.  Osa Bella is fanfiction at it’s optimum – I can’t think of a single reason not to read it.

*Reviews by AllyVera*

When Cared first told me about her fabulous idea of doing an “Essence of Edward” post I had a wonderful time delving into my favourites to see which of my beloved Edwards would be the best candidates.  But, before I reveal my final choices, I think I should explain what my personal “Essence of Edward” is.

When I read “Twilight” back in 2009 what I fell in love with most (yes, apart from the bronze-haired, sharp-jawed magnificence) was Edward’s inherent goodness.  And it is not that he is perfect,  because he isn’t – just that he tries his utmost to be good – to do the right thing, even if it means sacrificing his own happiness… *sigh*  That’s what made me swoon! Coincidentally, it is what drew me to Bella’s character as well.  They really were meant for each other!

So, with that in mind – I chose a couple of stories where I believe that the fanfic version of Edward truly embraces what I fell in love with all those years ago.

The Cullen Sutras ~ After a difficult breakup with her longtime boyfriend, Bella meets a sexy, but enigmatic, yoga instructor whose dedication to the art masks a hidden sorrow. Further complicating matters is his loyalty to the yogic practice of brahmacharya, celibacy! AH

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Angst – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 36 – Words: 186,863 – Reviews: 2,923 – Favs: 2,217 – Follows: 989 – Updated: May 31, 2011 – Published: May 20, 2010 – Status: Complete – id: 5983581

I think a lot of us could empathise with Bella in The Cullen Sutras when we meet her in the first chapter. She has just gone through an unexpected and humiliating break-up with her long-time boyfriend, Mike…and she is having a wallow in her misery, but her friends Alice and Rose come to the rescue by dragging her to a yoga retreat for the weekend.  Little does Bella know at this stage, that by the end of the weekend, Mike will be nothing but a distant memory.

Edward enraptures Bella (and the reader) from the moment he catches her mid-trip – pretty much as soon as she arrives at the retreat (yep, yoga will help with that clumsiness, Bella) – and from that moment on the gorgeous jade-eyed man is at the forefront of her thoughts.

Excerpt from Chapter Two (first yoga class with Edward – BPOV)

“While I initially had trouble following his instruction, I eventually got into the rhythm of the ujjayi, or “ocean,” breath that Edward described as one of the most important techniques we’d use. I was still a little self-conscious about the Darth-Vader-like sounds that were emitting from my mouth as I constricted my throat muscles, but it was strangely relaxing. I opened my eyes, which had been closed, and saw Edward smiling at me encouragingly.

“Now, we add movement,” Edward said, standing up. “One more thing before we begin this portion of the class. I’m known here for my strong assists, which means I have a very hands-on approach to the practice….”

YES, please.

“Please let me know if you are uncomfortable with physical contact and I’ll respect your space.”

NO. Thank you. Apparently, no one else had a problem either, since no one spoke up. It made sense; why someone would not want this man to lay his hands on them was beyond me. I glanced at Angela to my left. She looked as eager to have him touch her as I felt.

Bella is quite hilarious in her internal ramblings at times, but you can’t blame the girl for her thoughts! If we are honest, it’s what Edward does to us all

Just like our beloved canon Edward, Yogiward has quite a few – scratch that, a lot of – dark secrets. Secrets which he is determined never to let Bella know.  I think this is a huge amount of the reason I loved this story so much, Edward is a puzzle – an enigma.  I enjoyed peeling back each layer to get to know him better and better.

Magnolia822 has fashioned a fabulous plot that is all-human yet retains so many canon elements – which I adore.  There are moments of true angst, where my heart broke for Bella (I do love a bit of angst though) but there are also moments of intrigue, drama and a triple helping of UST!

At the end of the day though, it is Edward and his story that make The Cullen Sutras a fascinating read.  If you like your Edwards mysterious, sexy, strong, brave, a whole lot of complicated with a tortured soul – you need to read TCS (unless you already have, of course!).

And the world just became a better place; heart lightened, smile in place, you’re ready to party and celebrate life!

The Right Guy by ThatEnglishWriter

The Right Guy ~ Bella always finds the wrong guy. The one who can’t satisfy her, ahem, needs. The one who really wants her best friend, Rosalie. But even if she never finds the Right Guy, there’s always a glass of wine and the sympathetic ear of Edward, her faithful barman.

Twilight, M, English, Romance & Humor, chapters: 10, words: 19k+, favs: 858, follows: 570, updated: Dec 28, 2012 published: Nov 25, 2012, Bella, Edward Complete

Looking for a kind, patient Edward? The kind who watches, waits, bides his time? All the while seeing the lovely Bella make mistake after mistake, often finding great hilarity in her ability to attract the wrong guy. Have no fear though, Bella is no wanton hussy, she’s just a friendly, if somewhat naïve girl who finds herself in a more than a few awkward situations. This is a lovely short-ish fic that will make you smile all the way through and warm your heart.

Edward is, of course, tending his bar when they meet and become the best of friends. He fulfills both roles of friend and the discreet all-knowing, all-seeing barman, so he is privy to all her deepest secrets. They clearly adore each other, but she just doesn’t see HIM. Until she does. *sigh*

Edward looked down at the books again, scratching the scruff on his chin. He hadn’t shaved in a couple of days.

“I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with that. It doesn’t make you shallow; it’s just not what you want for yourself. If you’re serious about a guy, you want him to be serious about you too and serious about your future together. Maybe a guy who has yet to move out of his parent’s house and get a full-time job isn’t serious enough for a woman like you. There’s someone better out there for him.”

“And me?”

“And definitely someone better for you.” He smiled, his eyes on mine. “The right guy could be right under your nose.”

I smiled, feeling much better with myself as a person.

“Thanks Edward. This is why you own a bar. You’re full of worldly wisdom and have a sympathetic ear.” I took another fry and Edward sighed heavily, pushing the bowl towards me.

The Right Guy is a feel good story, and let’s face it, we all know where this is going, but the getting-there is charming, sweet, funny and will cheer any afternoon.

The Machine Shop by angela4148

The Machine Shop ~ College graduate, Bella Swan, needs a job to pay for the student loans on a useless degree. Owner of the famous Machine Shop, Edward Cullen, is looking for a waitress, but there’s a lot more to their stories.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Drama – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 16 – Words: 59,053 – Reviews: 537 – Favs: 772 – Follows: 671 – Updated: May 31 – Published: Nov 27, 2011 – Status: Complete – id: 7585753

When Bella is unable to find work after graduating she is persuaded to apply for a job at The Machine Shop, a bar renowned for the top bands that play there. Immediately there’s spark of attraction between Bella and her new boss, Edward…but admitting it is another thing.

Despite him being dark and often brooding, there is something about Edward that gets under her skin, makes her want to know more. Edward definitely wants to know everything about Bella, but there are inner demons that he’s scared will be unleashed should he take that step…so he remains aloof. Luckily others around him notice and decide to force the issue.

I moved over to the raised merch section in the back of the bar, so I could get a bird’s eye view. I met Bella’s eyes as she stood off to the side, watching the show. It was getting towards the end of the set and the drink orders tended to slow down a little. I smiled at her and she smiled back slightly, but there was reluctance there. I looked away quickly. It was fucking stupid to lust after her since I knew from her paperwork that she was not even twenty-three. I was an old man in comparison.

I took my hat off, catching a look at the word ‘suicidal’. I ran my fingers through my hair and slid it back on, facing the word behind me. It was symbolic if I really thought about it too hard.

“Hey, everything looks good. It’s been a good night. No fights, no bullshit, and a few hot women in almost nothing,” Emmett quipped as he leaned on the stool next to me. I nodded my head at him in agreement, never taking my eyes off Bella who was back to walking in the crowd.

“I noticed that you seem to be keeping a close eye on our new girl,” he commented after a short silence.

“I just want to make sure she’s doing her job. Nothing more, Em,” I said, giving him a shitty look.

“Whatever you say, Edward. Whatever you say.

Bella finds herself -and her best friend Rosalie- rapidly and wholeheartedly welcomed by the close team working at the bar, and embraced into their warm and loving ‘family’, their lives are irrevocably entwined, troubles shared. There are no doubts that they stand together, despite the challenges they face

It’s difficult not to give too much of the plot away, but one thing you’ll never doubt is that they care deeply, are loyal and their love is strong – and maybe that’s just the catalyst for Edward to resolve his issues

I love this description of Edward through Bella’s eyes…

His smell was heady and rustic, like pine and wild flowers, but completely manly despite the floral scent. It was just simply Edward, almost a contradiction. Much like the tough tattoos and soft eyes of the man himself.

There is something so touching about a seemingly tough guy being hurt and vulnerable, and this Edward will tug at your heartstrings just a little, but it’s so worth it as it makes the story end that much sweeter.

Cullen’s Roadhouse by TGBMcCray

Cullen’s Roadhouse ~ Bella Swan is adrift. She’s got a worthless college degree, bills, two friends, a shitty apartment, and too many ex-boyfriends. Swearing off men seems like a good idea, at least until she can figure out how to pour a proper beer and make some cash to get her head above water at Cullen’s Roadhouse. It’s an apron that sets her off. An apron, some Levi’s, and a tall glass of Diet Coke.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Humor/Drama – Bella – Chapters: 10 – Words: 10,431 – Reviews: 45 – Favs: 21 – Follows: 48 – Published: Nov 7 – id: 9828115 WiP

Let me introduce you to a great Bella! Bright, breezy, and with very little filter, she really is a treat to read, We meet her as she’s learning the ropes of tending bar from an older-than-usual Lauren. Cullen’s Roadhouse is a family-run establishment and although Edward is mainly behind the scenes at the bar, he definitely has a strong presence!

*Warning!* I’ve never really thought of an apron as sexy before, but OME, what a visual!!

About the time I get so frustrated that an exasperated “Fuck!” slips past my lips, I catch a glimpse of something decidedly male through the straggles of matted, stinky hair escaping my long braid. I look up from the ice, and he breezes right along the hallway.

He’s wearing a black Cullen’s Roadhouse t-shirt, a pair of Levi’s, and a fucking apron. Really. He’s got a white apron looped low around his hips, just folded and tied around his waist like a dirty towel. His hair, a riot of gold and red and brown, but mostly red, flops into his eyes, which are – maybe brown? Green? I’m not sure, he’s flashing me a smile, and he’s gone. I watch him take the two steps down into the kitchen, his ass perfectly framed by the apron at his hips. His long fingers are curled around a Styrofoam cup in one hand, and a clipboard in the other.

If my thighs weren’t already soaked with beer and ice, I might have a problem right now. He had dimples. At least one anyway, and a smile that just lit me up and blew me out in front of God and country and Lauren.

I become aware that I’m clutching her arm when she says, “Ow. Bella?”

“Who was that?”

She rubs her arm and glances back toward the kitchen, into the din of noise where Adonis just descended. “Who, Edward? He works here, manages back of house.”

“Edward. Oh. Edward Cullen?”

“Yeah. Remember what I said –”

My mouth is dry but my pussy is really, really wet. I don’t care how gross it sounds. It’s true. I think I may be working on a contact orgasm, but without the contact. I rasp at her, testing out if my voice still works. “Diet Coke.”

The shovel/ice spade in my hand is so cold, but it feels good because it’s so much hotter in here than it was before, and God knows it was hot then.

“Does he have a girlfriend?” I don’t care how forward I am. I want to know.

Lauren’s nose snurls. It’s universal chick body language for this shit is complicated. “Yeah. They just moved in together a few months back, I think. We don’t see her much in here. But they’re still together.”

“Not for long.”

I don’t realize I’ve said it out loud till Lauren starts laughing but I am serious as a fucking heart attack. I know, I know I said I was through. I swore off men. I moved here, even though it was James’s fucking hometown, and I swore him and Jacob and all of them off, but fuck.

Edward Cullen looks sexy as sin in an apron.

I have to have him.

You know she’s going to make good on that, but in the meantime I’m enjoying seeing the cast of slightly OOC characters, who bring depth and pathos to the story. Only ten chapters in, this WiP is one worth watching for its originality, and to see if Bella, her southern accent, daisy dukes and tempting ways can beguile Edward. I’m hopeful, in fact, I don’t think he stands a chance…!

*TGBMcCray’s fanfiction.net avatar*

TGBMcCray says, “My avatar is how I see Edward in Cullen’s Roadhouse. His bar’s shirt, otherwise it’s mostly flannel and jeans.”

When Wiltshire Glo proposed the idea of a Barward post, I admit he was not one I thought of as being a favourite Ward, but that all changed once I recalled all the brilliant Barward fics I’d previously read and enjoyed.  How had I forgotten just how sweet and sexy some of the Barwards and their stories are?

*Goes off to fantasyland where I’m the one in Bella’s shoes*

Can you imagine the temptation you would be faced with when Barward leans suggestively across the highly-polished bar, gives you one of his patented sexy smirks and asks, “what’s your pleasure?”  Be honest now, can any one of you put your hand on heart and say you would resist asking for a naughty sounding cocktail?  I know I wouldn’t!  I suspect I may go so far as to beg for order positions cocktails such as a ‘Long, Hard Screw Against the Wall’ or a ‘Screaming Orgasm’…preferably both together! LOL

So, peruse the menu below ladies…and enjoy!

One Bartender, Shaken and Stirred by GrayMatters and Iadorepugs

One Bartender, Shaken and Stirred ~ Winner of the Public Vote in the Curvaceous & Bodacious Contest – thank you for your votes! Collab w/Iadorepugs-Edward Cullen owns the popular nightclub Eclipse where image is supposedly everything. When plus-sized Bella Swan is drafted into helping out at Eclipse what will they both learn about images? One Shot

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Humor – Edward, Bella – Words: 8,368 – Reviews: 103 – Favs: 256 – Follows: 80 – Published: Apr 13, 2011 – Status: Complete – id: 6900255

The shaken and stirred bartender in question here is hot and intense, there is no denying it, but for me, it’s Bella who makes this a great fic. Why? She is curvaceous and bodacious, and beautiful both inside and out.  She is confident, comfortable in her own skin, witty…feisty even.  As they are short-staffed, Alice, one of Edward’s partners at Eclipse, persuades Bella to work waiting tables at the nightclub…  Narrow minded Edward likes a certain look for his staff – “super skinny supermodel types with perfect figures” – something Bella is not!

I took a deep breath, glad that I was pissed, otherwise I would be drooling as usual at the sight of the Greek God in front of me. He had to be one of the most handsome men I’d ever seen, with reddish-brown hair that was messy and wild, combined with lush emerald green eyes that studied me speculatively. He was tall, over six feet, with broad shoulders and muscular arms that were showcased by the black tee shirt he wore. But no matter now good looking he was, I didn’t appreciate his attitude towards me when I was here to do a favor for him.

Don’t worry that Edward appears to be a bit of an Assward at the beginning; all is not as it seems and by the end he more than redeems himself. 😉

Gravity by Coldplaywhore

Gravity ~ What happens when Edward, a handsome bartender, offers Bella a shoulder to cry on after a rough day at work and discovers they have more in common than they thought? For SassyK. Fandom Gives Back One-Shot. Rated M for dirty dirty things.

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Friendship – Chapters: 1 – Words: 7,209 – Reviews: 150 – Published: 1-7-10 – Edward, Bella

Edward enjoys a quiet life and doesn’t like to rock the boat so tending bar in Black, “an unassuming joint”, a few blocks away from the University of Washington Medical Center, suits him perfectly…

My favorite patrons were usually the nurses who came in from the hospital after a long shift, and there were several that I had struck up interesting friendships with over the two years I had worked there. There were the flirty nurses like Tanya, Jessica and Lauren, who even though they all steady boyfriends, didn’t seem to hesitate in asking me out. I never dated a patron though; it just wasn’t worth my time or aggravation since Charlotte frowned on any of her employees dating customers. However, that wasn’t completely true because there was one frequent visitor to the bar I would consider dating, but she never once showed any signs of interest in me, much to my frustration.

The frequent customer who stars in both his dreams and daydreams is Bella, a pediatric nurse…

Usually when they were at Black, I spent a little too much time watching Bella. Well, a little too much to be considered healthy for a normal man, but I couldn’t help it. She was beautiful. Bella had big round chocolate colored eyes that worked in perfect harmony with her long brown hair that she usually kept in a ponytail. Some nights when she came in, she would pull the elastic from her hair and shake it out, letting it fall down her back as my pants found themselves getting rather snug from the sight. It was on those nights that I thanked god that I was behind the bar, because there was nothing more stunning then Bella with her hair down.

Eventually Edward’s policy of being “willing to listen” pays off much better than he ever expected, gravity will not be denied, and so the owner’s policy of no fraternising with the customers is thrown out with the slops.  This Gravity cocktail is sweet, hot, romantic – enjoy!

Olympic Rain and Novocain by AddiCakes

Olympic Rain and Novocain ~ A waitress’s pain, a bartender’s secrets, & one fateful night. “The silken lilt flowing from his flawless lips envelopes her…soothes her…rocks her gently back and forth…until the tingly sensation fades into numbness. Numb. Like Novocain.” AH

Rated: Fiction M – English – Angst/Romance – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 30 – Words: 81,468 – Reviews: 1,331 – Favs: 1,047 – Follows: 597 – Updated: Feb 28, 2010 – Published: Aug 5, 2009 – Status: Complete – id: 5276294

Olympic Rain and Novocain is a beautifully written, moving story of that I read a few years back, and have not forgotten. As AddiCakes says “If you’re in the mood for some angst and dark secrets mixed with romance & sexual tension, please give my little story a try. I promise you will not be disappointed!” I know I wasn’t!

Bella is a lonely soul from Mississippi working as a diner waitress and living in Forks with her police chief father.  Perhaps residing in Forks would be a more accurate description as she is not living, merely existing; she is sad, depressed and is hiding from life.  Her relationship with Charlie is pretty miserable and I could have cried for Bella when he forgot her 19th birthday, though paradoxically, that turns out to be the best thing he ever did for her. She decided to spend the night out doing whatever she wanted, in a different town, with different people—a little birthday indulgence.

Engine rattle and radio static are all that keep her company as she makes the hour-long drive east on the one-oh-one. It does not matter that she’ll probably end up standing by herself in the corner of the club. It also does not matter that she’ll be forced to wear one of those orange bracelets signifying she’s underage. What does matter is that the few remaining hours of her nineteenth birthday are not spent listening to her father’s snoring.

How I admire both her bravery and her attitude!

Movement on the stage rescues Bella from sinking any further into a miserable reverie. She eyes the young bartender stepping into plain sight, a barstool in one hand and a guitar in the other. A spotlight shines from the floor, illuminating his lean, yet muscular, form. He is tall—six feet, at least. His attire is casual, a navy blue t-shirt, dark jeans and black Converse sneakers. His short sleeves reveal the sinewy definition in his arms as he adjusts the mic stand to his liking. He runs a nervous hand through his untidy brown hair—or perhaps, it’s auburn. She can’t be certain in this lighting.

The distracted audience fails to take notice of him until they hear the tweaking of his guitar strings. More heads turn in attention when he clears his throat. But as for Bella Swan, she is captivated by him long before he croons the first verse…

And so Bella discovers her Novocain…her own personal brand of heroin…Edward!  I wish I could say ‘and they all lived happily ever after’ at this point, but I can’t.  Temporary solutions to pain are just that – temporary.  Bella and Edward, for he has his own secret to confront, have growing to do. Their initial friendship develops into a relationship as they travel down the road of forgiveness, reconciliation and acceptance of their pasts that cannot be changed.

Set aside a few hours for reading this as once you start, you won’t want to stop.

Sandstone Cove by cosmogirl7481

Sandstone Cove ~ I came here looking for some rest, some relaxation…some downtime. I never expected to find anything else. I certainly never expected to find him. Written for Marvar’s birthday because I love her. Rated M for reasons.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 19 – Words: 14,259 – Reviews: 1,322 – Favs: 605 – Follows: 434 – Updated: Aug 3 – Published: Aug 2 – Status: Complete – id: 9555470

It’s no secret that the legendary Cosmogirl7481 writes the best birthday presents for her beta and bestie, Marvar, and we, her loyal readers, are the lucky ones to also reap the benefits! I’ve been a Cosmo fan for quite some time now; read just about every word she’s written, and Barward, in Sandstone Cove, is simply another reason why I enjoy her stories so much. This romantic Edward, who will make you swoon and fan yourself with his sweet, sometimes dirty words and sexy demeanor, is swept into Bella’s vacation world with the waves of a sandy tide…

I can feel the soft, worn wood under my legs as I sit on the railing of the boardwalk. The sun is just now rising over the ocean – vivid flecks of yellow, pink, and just a hint of lavender fill the horizon that seems so far off, and yet, I feel as if I could reach out and touch it.

And just like the colors, everything seems hazy.

I came here looking for some rest, some relaxation…some downtime.

I never expected to find anything else.

I certainly never expected to find him.

…I hear his voice behind me. “I thought I’d find you here.”

He presses up against my back and his arms wrap around my waist as he pulls me against his warm, bare chest. Everything about this – about him – is soft and hard and fucking perfect. I don’t even try to fight it. I melt against him as the sun bathes us both in its warmth. He holds me steady as I push against him, and even though I know he has to let me go, right now he doesn’t.

He won’t.

As the wind whips my hair around the both of us, I turn my head back, looking up at him, and say, “You didn’t find me here, Edward. I found you.”

The smooth ebb and flow of this complete, 19 chapter story, from the beautiful beach and resort setting that is romantic and relaxing, to the friendly bartender and his welcoming family, will leave you captivated and wanting to be at Sandstone Cove yourself. Bella “just needed a little downtime” to escape her stressful and complicated life at home, and Barward, while serving up “Sex on the Beach” also offers her more than a good drink, as he leads her to reevaluate her life and responsibilities. And you never know, as a wise cabbie told Bella when she arrived: “This is the closest thing to paradise I’ve ever found. You might just decide not to leave.” I wonder if Bella did indeed make this decision? Well, you’ll just have to check into the Ocean View Resort to find out. Oh, and don’t forget your sunscreen…Barward is on drink and sunscreen duty! *wink* Enjoy!

Paper CutOuts by twistedcoincidence and astilbe13

*Let us know if you made this.*

Paper CutOuts ~ Bella prefers the virtual to the actual, but feels herself being tugged from the safety of her online realm into the world of a rough edged Edward. This time she’ll write her own story. Collab with astilbe13 AH/AU

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Angst – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 34 – Words: 136,587 – Reviews: 10,068 – Favs: 5,753 – Follows: 3,532 – Updated: Feb 16, 2011 – Published: May 24, 2010 – Status: Complete – id: 5993964

I am showing my Twi-Fic age here, but I read Paper CutOuts when it was a mere WIP, and it is one of those stories that stays with you long after the last word is read. I personally think the best thing about the story is how real it feels – not just the storyline, but the characters of Edward and Bella.  Neither are perfect, but that just seems to make them better.

Instead of telling you about Bella’s life before she meets Edward, I think I will let her tell you… (Chapter One)

“There are no highlights in the story of my life, no cliff hangers, no nail biting moments. Everything drones on like the predictable beat of a metronome, no down beats or flourishes. My parents seem to think that this is the their ultimate gift to me. They call it comfort, stability. I call it hell.

It can’t be completely blamed on them. I have been easily led down this path. Every time I had the chance to stick a toe out of line, I’ve gone chicken shit and recoiled back to the familiar. So, I’ve been the bystander. I watched as my friends took risks, stuck out their necks, handed out their hearts, all while I seethed with jealousy.

I sigh as my pen taps out a simple beat against the cheap vinyl of my cubicle desk. At least I’m next to a window. Not something I fought for, just a simple coincidence that the lucky bastard I replaced passed down to me. My phone beeps incessantly at me and I exhale slowly, narrowing my eyes at the black box. I pull the receiver to my ear and try to sound awake.

“Good afternoon, I’m calling to tell you about the amazing results you can get with….” My voice drones on as I wait for the familiar dial tone. I am that person. The scum who calls at the worst time and tries to con you into signing up for a pill that will in no way make you look like Jennifer Aniston, but will be emptying your bank account slowly, as you forget you are being billed monthly.

As you can see, Bella is not really fulfilling her potential, but she starts to when she meets Edward, who owns the bar close to Bella’s work.  After a bit of a disastrous first meeting with Bella nearly cracking her head open on Edward’s bar, this seemingly mismatched couple strike up a friendship which eventually leads to more.  Of course, in all this is Edward’s son, Finn – who is one of the most delightful children I have read in Fan Fic.  He is a shining star in this story, as is Edward’s boundless love for him. *Sigh – Daddyward! Yum*

There are rough patches in this story where Bella and Edward are carving out their future, but the angst is perfectly balanced with lightness in this story – there are many giggle out-loud moments, as well as the moments where you reach for the Kleenex – it truly is wonderful!

Welcome all to this week’s Fan Fiction Fridays.  Our regular readers may remember we did a Possessiveward post earlier on in the year, and we thought it was time for a sequel of sorts…  You see the “Possessiveward, You Belong to Us” post has the distinction of being our most popular post here at Rob Attack… ever!

We thought we would expand on the theme and bring you some more juicy Possessivewards you can sink your teeth into (now, there’s a thought…  LOL). Please check out our reading library at the end for more inspiration…

To Destroy by walkingwithgiants

To Destroy ~ In the words of Abe Lincoln, “The best way to destroy an enemy is to make him a friend.” Bella works for a man that makes her teeth grind. “My boss is an asshole,” she cried.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Drama – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 40 – Words: 86,502 – Reviews: 2,731 – Favs: 2,061 – Follows: 3,107 – Updated: 10-25-13 – Published: 10-25-11 – id: 7493279

‘To Destroy’ is not this fandom’s average Bella-as-assistant and Edward-as-Asshole-Corporate-Officer, story. For one thing, the author is forty chapters in and there hasn’t been any sex. There is, however, awesome character development, humor, UST and an engaging plot. The characters all act and react like real people, not fantasies or clichés. It’s a different story in that regard; slow building but wonderful.

This personal assistant Bella of CFO Edward’s, is witty, smart and hard-working. He is a true workaholic and tyrant; who is also shown to be driven, intense and intelligent. As the story progresses she goes from mentally calling him ‘asshole’ and her ‘mortal enemy’ to seeing him as a man who cares for all of his employees and busts his ass to get everything done correctly.

All that and yet he is totally without social graces.

As the author slowly humanizes Edward for the reader and for Bella, we read as he earns her hatred, then respect and, at the current update, her friendship. In recent chapters, the author has teased us with flashes of interest, on both sides:

After her car breaks down in chapter 27, he offers to drive her home. On the way they actually talk about their plans for the evening…

He nodded, keeping his intent gaze on the lines of traffic in front of us. “Do you have plans?” he asked in a strange voice. “Hot date?”

Oh God. The awkward was overwhelming. Did he really just ask that? Looking at him out of the corner of my eye, the pink that stained the angles of his high cheekbones told me that yes, yes he had just asked me that ridiculous question.

I couldn’t help but snort. Loud. So loud he turned to look at me for a split second before smiling so wide in return, I thought his face would stretch painfully.

“I don’t know why I just asked you that,” he admitted with that blinding grin before blushing a pure salmon color. “Jesus.”

Laughter burst out of me at the look on his face and admission. Three gasps of air in later, something as rare as the Abominable Snowman rang throughout the confines of Mr. Cullen’s luxury sedan—he laughed. It was loud but not obnoxiously so, and it was such a rich noise, it threw me completely off guard before making me laugh even harder.

…and then in chapter 28 he even apologizes and is considerate towards her:

“I meant to buy you lunch today,” he said simply.

“Why?” I asked him a little too quickly, sounding like way more of a bitch than I intended to.

“For being a,” he gave me a weak smile, “prick this morning.”

Well then.

“I’m sorry. I had a bad morning, and when you didn’t show up I thought maybe I’d run you off when my calls went straight to voicemail—”

Wait. He’d called my phone when I hadn’t shown up?

“I should’ve known you wouldn’t just stop coming to work even if I’d done something to upset you. I was worried.” He paused. “I’m sorry for being rude,” he apologized.

And I think in that moment the world really did come crashing down. Mr. Cullen had been worried about me?

So, we saw another side of Edward…and then in chapter 37, we see Bella’s side of things and how they are progressing and how he is affecting her *wink*:

He was still in his suit pants, but his belt was off.

And so was his dress shirt. In only an undershirt that was a pristine white, it didn’t change the fact that it was thin. Nearly see-through.

When the hell did he get time to exercise?

He wasn’t big like my brother, but his body was lean and strong like the ballet dancers I saw at the Nutcracker every year. Or like a martial artist.

Was that a vein in his bicep?

What the fuck was I doing checking him out?

Dear God. I needed to masturbate soon if I was starting to get desperate.

But I glanced at the neat outline of his pectorals and for some messed up reason, thought to myself, well, maybe not desperate exactly. Stupid. I was getting stupid.

The mutual respect is there.  Their friendship has begun.  An attraction between the two has sprung up and I am looking forward, so much, to seeing where the author takes it all…because:

“There was Mr. Cullen…and then there was Edward.”

A Slow Boil by kts

A Slow Boil ~ Bella’s an exchange student hoping to find a job to keep herself employed for the summer so that she can stay on at an exclusive University. Her best job prospect is a part-time housekeeping position with one Mr. Cullen.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Humor – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 25 – Words: 83,904 – Reviews: 2,175 – Favs: 3,064 – Follows: 1,127 – Updated: 02-02-12 – Published: 06-04-11 – Status: Complete – id: 7052343

First off, I have to let you know that this story is quite unusual in a many ways – it has a lot of non-canon elements (for example, you won’t find Emmett, Rose or Jasper in this story and well, Edward is quite different…  But if you are like me, you won’t mind. *winks*)

If I had to sum A Slow Boil up in one word I would use “intriguing”.  It captured me from the first chapter and soon I was addicted, plowing through the chapters as fast as my eyes could take me.

The beginning of the story has us meeting Bella when she applies for the position as a housekeeper to the enigmatic Edward Cullen.  Bella desperately needs a job to earn money to keep her in her student exchange program at the exclusive University she attends – but what begins as a necessary venture soon becomes a labour of love, despite some of Edward’s odd ways…

Extract from Chapter 3

“Miss Swan!”

I practically ran back into the dining room. “Yes, Mr. Cullen, what is it?”

“Miss Swan. Didn’t Mrs. Whitlock explain that you are to wait in the kitchen while I eat? I had to call you twice. Why didn’t you come the first time?” His tone was level, his expression blank, but he was rocking his empty martini glass back and forth in agitation.

“She did, Mr. Cullen, but I thought I’d have time to run downstairs and finish folding your laundry before you needed anything.”

“You were wrong. I want another martini.”

“I’m sorry – I’ll make you one right now.”

When I returned to the table I noticed that he was about half way through his meal. As I placed his new drink down he looked up at me, reading my face, which no doubt showed how anxious I was about upsetting him on my first day here.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. I’m sorry about leaving the kitchen.”

“That’s alright, Miss Swan. Just don’t let it happen again.”

“You know, you can call me Bella.”

“Bella.” He said it like a statement, trying it out. “It’s a pretty name and it suits you, but I prefer Miss Swan. And I’d like you to call me Mr. Cullen or Sir.”

“Yes, sir.”

Hmm, yes, he sounds like a tyrant, doesn’t he??  But have faith, dear readers, not all is as it seems!

One of the things I loved about A Slow Boil the most was the fact that Edward really does remain a mystery until quite late on in the story – and this is why I enjoyed that this story is only told (until the very end) in BPOV.

As Bella “sweetens” Edward up and we get to know him better you can’t help but love this man who, with all his quirks, is really very caring and incredibly protective of Bella.

So, if you like your stories a little out of the ordinary and love great characters you can wrap your mind around, I’m sure A Slow Boil will be sure to satisfy!

Contractually Bound ~ She’d cost him everyone he’d ever loved. Surely a few months of marriage wasn’t too high a price for her to pay in compensation.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Drama/Romance – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 23 – Words: 82,259 – Reviews: 5,170 – Favs: 2,421 – Follows: 2,829 – Updated: 07-23-13 – Published: 04-11-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9193694

I had heard so many great things about Contractually Bound, I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into it this week, and once I started, there was no stopping me!

Contractually Bound is quite unusual as it was started by two authors, GinnyW 31 and Shug (sshg316), but it was continued on by the uber talented LyricalKris and boy, she certainly did the original authors proud.

I wouldn’t exactly call Edward in this story possessive, per se, but he is very controlling (it is almost like he needs to be in control at all times), and at the beginning, he is a bit of an ass (okay, a lot of an ass) … just sayin’.

Bella is working as a short order cook and lives above the diner where she works – she is saving to finally meet her dream of going to college.  All that changes when Edward bursts back into her life after eight years and pretty much demands she marries him.  Edward’s mother, Esme, is dying and Edward believes that by seeing Bella and Edward finally together (even though it is a huge farce) it will give her peace in her final days.

But, dear readers, there is a whole lot more going on in this story than I can ever do justice with my mere review…

A little glimpse of Edward’s vitriol from Chapter One…

“What do we tell them?” she asked quietly.

“In two weeks’ time, I’ll take you on a quiet picnic lunch and tell you how, now that we’ve reconnected, I could never let you go.” Edward found he had to swallow down bile as he spouted off his carefully planned lie.

“Why are you giving this to me now?”

He leaned forward, his hands again resting on the sticky table, but he tried to ignore it. This was important, and he wanted to make certain that he was very clear. He waited until Bella raised her eyes from the small gold band to meet his gaze before he spoke. “Because I don’t want to confuse the lines, Bella. This is an arrangement—a contract—nothing more. This is a small town and we will have to be seen in public for this to be believable, not to mention family dinners and so on, but I want to make it clear—” he leaned even closer to her and brought up his right hand to grip her chin “—you mean absolutely nothing to me.”

Dropping his hand and standing back up, he walked to the door. With his head down, he reached out to turn the knob and said, “I will be here Sunday at three to take you to the house.”

He didn’t wait for an answer before he yanked the door open and then slammed it shut behind him. He couldn’t get out of there fast enough.”

Make no mistake, Contractually Bound is a hard read, but like most hard reads, it is very worth the heartache you endure just to see these fractured souls mend each other.

Nothing to Declare by lellabeth (one shot)

Nothing to Declare ~ Going through airport security just got a whole lot better. Meet Customsward.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Bella, Edward – Words: 4,447 – Reviews: 84 – Favs: 182 – Follows: 86 – Published: 03-27-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9142276

I couldn’t help but share with you all this little one-shot of naughtiness (because, lets’ face it, we all love a little naughty).

I was miffed after I read Nothing to Declare, as I have never seen any airport security or Customs Officers that look like Edward *Ally huffs and crosses arms across chest*.  But I can live vicariously through Bella and what fun I had doing so!

“And what other piercings do you have, naughty girl?” he asks, his words as hot as his breath that hits across my cheek and steals my own. His mouth is hovering close to my neck now, the warmth of his skin making my own pucker.

“My navel. And… and one of my nipples,” I whisper, almost shy. It’s a change – I’m usually brash, not often coy, but there’s something about this man that makes me feel like the delicate woman I’ve never been.

“Mmm, I bet you do. All pretty and pink with a bar running through it, is that right?” He says, his groan sending a gust of scorching air across the back of my neck. I gasp; clenching my eyes against the wave of arousal so strong it nearly cripples me. I don’t speak but nod instead, relishing in the way his lips pepper the sensitive skin of my neck a minute later.

“You know what that means?” he asks, immediately bringing his mouth back to suck at my pulse point. I’m incapable of words so instead shake my head vigorously, swallowing the whimper that threatens to burst out as he licks a light trail up my throat.

“Wand search, my little Bella. I’m going to have to run it all over this body,” he tells me, demonstrating by rubbing his big palms in a circuit from my hips to just beneath my breasts. “And you know what else?”

“W-what?” I ask, moaning low as he brushes his pinkie over my straining nipple.

“You’re going to love it.”

Oh, yes, Ladies – going through airport security will never be the same again! *Swoons*

Grand by CaraNo

*Made by CaraNo*

Grand ~ A mafia tale about love, loyalty, betrayal, and family. Told in three parts: Grand Tale, Grand Vendetta, and Grand Finale. We’ll begin in 1975 and follow a family through the MGM Grand fire, the Dunes implosion, and the opening of Mandalay Bay.

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Crime/Family – Chapters: 42 – Words: 229,608 – Reviews: 3740 – Updated: 10-31-13 – Published: 2-22-13 – Edward, Bella

I adore the intensity of Possessiveward…the deep connection, the almost feral need for Edward to be with his Bella, which is why CaraNo‘s Edward in this epic trilogy really fits the bill for this week’s post. Dark, demanding and controlling, with aggressive tendencies…and yet his love for Isabella, his Hummingbird is unquestionable. Their love, their passion is the backbone to the series.

Usually I choose an excerpt from around the time that Edward and Bella meet, but this one from a recent update shows just how their special brand of love has stood the test of time, how Edward -or Junior as he’s known- still has the urge to show just who she belongs to, and in turn, that she owns him.

Grand Chapter 37: Finale 9

“C’mea.” I pat the marble counter and take a step back so she can hop up and sit in front of me. “Lemme look at’chu.” I set down the razor and untie her robe, letting it slide open and down her shoulders. “I’m sorry,” I mutter, ghosting my hand over her thigh. In several places on her body, I can see marks from my fingers, hands…shit, even my teeth. “You shoulda bopped me one.” I frown.

“Did I ask you to stop, ciccino?” She goes for the razor and motions me close. I step between her parted legs and keep still as she begins to shave me. “It was so intense,” she whispers, her eyes searching mine. “I loved it.”

My frown deepens, but I say nothing. Make no mistake, the wife and I can be like animals in bed, but it’s been years since I got so rough that I left marks behind. Maybe some redness that fades within a few hours, and soreness…but this? Cazzo. There’s some dark bruising around her hips from my tight grip, bite marks along her thighs and neck…

Yesterday, I lost my head—my fuckin’ mind.

I have an insanely beautiful wife, but back home no one dares to look at her in a suggestive way. People know who I am, and when I take Isabella out to dinner or a show, they know better than to gawk at the woman on my arm. Unless they’re suicidal.

While it has all the classic characteristics of a mafia story, CaraNo gives us more. This is a family love story, with amazing original characters that I actually care about and really want to know (quite a few non-canon pairings); moments of real terror where I’m frightened and reading between my fingers; hot, hot, hooooot steamy lemons that leave me panting…but right at the heart of it all is love. It changes, evolves but just gets deeper. I’m not gonna lie, there have been times when I’ve been angry too – wanted to shake Junior, scream at him even, but Isabella understands him, knows his world and anchors him.

I’m not sure how Cara has managed to create a love story spanning decades, with a multi-generational and complicated family tree, using real life events as a backdrop and infusing humour, without diluting the love story of Edward and Bella…but she has. It really is a drop-everything story.

White Shadows by sunflowersongs

White Shadows ~ Edward’s a knight. Bella’s a fair maiden in need of a protector. An arranged marriage, a run for freedom, a change of heart, a choice to be made. Lots of adventure, some humor, and a cocky Edward.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Fantasy/Romance – Edward, Bella – Chapters: 15 – Words: 74,623 – Reviews: 961 – Favs: 620 – Follows: 1,015 – Updated: 11-06-13 – Published: 07-28-13 – id: 9538475

Sunflowersongs hints at the sense of fun she instills in White Shadows, and the delights that lie ahead with her author note from Chapter 1: First, Edward is a knight and about the cockiest bastard you’ll ever meet. Second, there’s a fair maiden in need of rescue. And third…did I mention Edward is a knight? Oh yes! I hear you sunflowersongs, and I’d like to add, fourth, fifth and sixth…did she mention Edward is a cocky bastard?

Look up to the top of the post at the sexy banner made by AllyVera.  Protective – Controlling – Intense, yes, yes, and yes for our favourite knight, but I should have asked her to include Cockybastardward…someone please pass me a Sharpie. 🙂 Read this extract from the first glimpse of Edward and I’m sure you’ll agree…

I walked into the dark, smoky great hall and tugged off my gloves and cloak. I adjusted my tunic over my chain mail as my squire, Tormund, rushed over to relieve me of my things and my sword. I went to unhook my sword belt, but paused. This was a friendly castle, loyal to my family, but, as my father had always reminded me, trust no one but your own self.

A buxom serving wench brought me a tankard of ale and handed it to me with a nearly toothless smile. She gave me a once over and then winked at me as she shoved her large breasts up to better display her wares to me. She was almost ugly, but she seemed clean and friendly enough. I pondered her silent offer as she strutted away.

No, I wasn’t that desperate. I’d wait for a better offer. It would come. I never wanted for a woman to warm my pallet at night.

Being the only son and heir to Castle Sunhaven of the Amber Isle, First Knight to King Alfred, the reigning tournament champion five years running, the man nicknamed “Slayer” by those he’d fought against…I held a certain attraction, a certain fascination to women. But then perhaps my face and body- and being well endowed- had something to do with it as well.

Perhaps Edward, perhaps! LOL

Isabella of Ostburn is the fair maiden in need of protection and Edward of Sunhaven is just the man knight for the task. Not that she makes it easy on him, and I can’t blame her for that as she finds him to be “the most annoying, frustrating, and confusing man that’s ever lived!”  Actually, Bella does agree with Edward’s self-assessment that he is “every woman’s dream” well, he is her dream…and quite literally her knight in shining armour, but she doesn’t see the need to inflate his ego as everything about Edward is big enough already. 😉

Oh, did I mention this Edward smolders – he consciously smolders! I can almost hear him ask, “Do I dazzle you?” *Snicker* And in answer to his question, “Frequently.”  Because, yes, he does, and when he is all gallant, masterful and manly…he makes me – a modern independent woman – wish for a heaving bosom in which to offer him rest and comfort. (I’m so selfless!)  Then, when he gets all protective of Bella, it makes him doubly attractive in my eyes; he is welcome to sleep across the threshold of my chamber, js.

The seemingly simple remit of guarding Bella with his life, leads to discovering love, a daring adventure with loyal friends, bad guys and battles, and growing into the man he was destined to be.  Sunflowersongs also tells us this captivating story of fantasy and romance is “not set anywhere real, so there’s no historical accuracy to mess up, and the fictional medieval rules are my own in this land of Oaklea.”  Even given that fact, and White Shadows being so refreshing and unique, I enjoy spotting twists, canon characteristics and parallels that make me smile. It updates regularly and at 15 chapters in you’ll soon catch up with this intrepid band on their life-changing journey.

Copy Room by Edward’s Eternal

Copy Room ~ Sometimes flippant words are really the truth spoken out loud. What happens when someone overhears you and decides to give you what you secretly want but never knew?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Hurt/Comfort – Bella, Edward – Chapters: 27 – Words: 46,875 – Reviews: 6,000 – Favs: 1,801 – Follows: 2,812 – Updated: 11-07-13 – Published: 09-14-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9687201

Bella has a sexual fantasy: “Maybe that’s what I want, Rose. Sex with no strings. Maybe sex with a stranger.” I leaned back in my chair, enjoying the surprised look on her face. “Yeah,” I mused. “Hot, fast, hard sex with a stranger. Somewhere dark. No names. No strings. Just …” I lowered my voice further. “Hot. Dirty. Fucking.” …and this possessive, dominant, fuck-hot Edward, is just the man to fulfill it! Welcome to Edward’s Eternal’s Copy Room.

This Isabella Swan wasn’t usually so verbal and blunt, she’s actually quite shy and feels she’s “invisible” – suffering from a bit of low self-esteem after being hurt by her ex-boyfriend, Riley. She works as a PA in a busy office. Her boss, James, is not confident in the security of today’s technology, causing Bella to have to use a private copy room on a regular basis…and this is where all the action *wink* takes place, beginning when Bella receives an anonymous text…

Sighing, I gathered my pile of copying and went down the hall. I set up the copier and sat down, waiting for the collated piles to start appearing. My phone buzzed in my pocket, signalling a new text. I pulled it out, frowning at the unknown number. My eyes widened as I read the text.

You’re not invisible.

I see you.

And I think you’re beautiful.

Bella’s not sure what to think when she reads those words, and subsequent texts, “Be careful what you wish for, Bella.” At first she believes it could be a joke from co-worker and friend Rose to cheer her up, but as the story progresses, Bella discovers she really isn’t “invisible” but actually very desirable – to someone – and that her fantasy is about to become reality…

…the room suddenly went black.

For a second I stood there, confused. The copier was still working, how could the lights go off? A noise right behind me startled me but before I could move a pair of hands gripped my waist.

I gasped as the hands pulled me backward and I felt the hard planes of a well-defined chest pressed against my back. Warm breath drifted across my cheek as a low, rough voice whispered in my ear.

“Is this what you wanted?”

“What?” I whispered, a shudder running through me. “Who are you? What … what do you want?”

The voice chuckled, a deep, rumbling noise. “No names, remember? You said a stranger …”

A small whimper escaped my throat. Someone had heard my flippant words to Rose.

Warm lips grazed up my neck. “You know what I want. I know what you want. Tell me, Isabella,” the voice demanded softly. “Is the room dark enough?”

“D … dark enough?”

A warm, wet tongue traced my earlobe. Another deep chuckle sounded in my ear as I shivered and I felt the hands on my waist tighten.

“Dark enough for me to fuck you?”

Wow, anyone else hot?  Well, if you think that’s hot…you haven’t read anything yet because you need to meet: “Edward, Isabella. My name is Edward,” he growled as he thrust forward. “And I want to hear you moan it when you come.”  He is like no other Edward I’ve ever read – mysterious, protective, controlling, intense, complex, calculating, and even caring – as he gives Isabella exactly what she wants; but is there more to him than the dark, sexy meetings inside the copy room? You’ll thoroughly enjoy finding out; trust me.

What’s more, we must not overlook the fact that the story is also rated Romance…as sweet, shy Masen, with his offerings of friendship, coffee and Werther’s, is brilliantly interwoven into this complete and consuming plot, masterfully presented by one of the most talented and sweetest ladies I know, Edward’s Eternal!

A Love Story For The Ages by missrebecca

A Love Story for the Ages bb misforMarisa

A Love Story For The Ages ~NOMINATED FOR A SHIMMER AWARD! Edward was changed in 1918 unaware that his betrothed lay dying in an alley outside the hospital. Every eighteen years she comes back to him, only to die a horrible death. Can they find a way to stop it, before it’s too late?

Rated: Fiction T – English – Romance/Drama – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 5 – Words: 21,044 – Reviews: 68 – Favs: 118 – Follows: 51 – Updated: 10-28-10 – Published: 10-14-10 – Status: Complete – id: 6397934

This story has that special factor that sucks me into Twilight fics again and again – pardon the pun. Irrevocable love is my brand of heroin, and this fic gave me quite the hit!  The unique plot of this emotional and captivating story, A Love Story For The Ages, is exactly as the title suggests; it’s the story of a love so deep…a bond so strong…it defies logic and the laws of both nature and time. It can give the kiss of life to the long-dead human memories of a lonely vampire…

Edward had forgotten her. How her skin was milky white and her hair was so dark against her pale skin. Her lips a ruby red. He’d forgotten what they felt like, to be pressed under his own in a chaste kiss suitable for a betrothed pair. He’d forgotten how one night he’d felt her. The curves under her dress and the sighs over his face. He’d felt the soft skin of her collarbone under his lips that night. But he’d forgotten, until he saw her again.

It was eighteen years after he died. Eighteen years after a vampire named Carlisle had found him and ‘saved’ him, damning him to eternity on the earth but saving him from death. He’d never really known whether to be grateful.

But then he’d seen her. Her hair was shorter than he remembered but her eyes he would never forget. Such a deep shade of brown, he’d seen nothing like it till then. Her face was the exact same heart shape, her lips still an enticing red. She was smiling, with a man he assumed was her father. And he remembered.

Dinners with their families. Chaperoned evenings to the theatre. Nights in playing chess. Drinking tea on the porch swing. Sneaking in and out of windows. Being so deliriously in love they knew not what to do with themselves.

She would be over thirty years old now. Most likely married, with children, though seeing her then she didn’t look much older than she had the last time he’d seen her; through feverish eyes in the hospital he’d died in. How could he have forgotten her?

And so begins the heartbreaking cycle of love and loss, the waiting game and the constant race against time as the sand falls swiftly through the hourglass – all converging in the lives and deaths of the utterly spellbinding Miss Isabella Swan!

Twilight on the Prairie by ilovealion

Twilight on the Prairie ~This was inspired by the pictures taken of Robert Pattinson during the filming of Water for Elephants. Farmward looked so hot in his “period attire” that I was inspired to put him on the Prairie with Bella. E&B friends to lovers…

I spent many a Sunday afternoon wishing I was Laura Ingalls Wilder – I know, I’m showing my age by confessing that. 🙂 I wanted to run carefree though the wildflower meadow with my sisters while wearing a calico sunbonnet. Stop laughing!  After reading Twilight on the Prairie by our very own Ilovealion, my plans of what…and who…I fancied doing in the meadow became most unPG.  In fact, they became positively M rated! 😉

We meet the lovely Bella as she wakes up to face another day of chores in her pa’s little house on the prairie. She is a dutiful daughter and willing to play her part in the running of the household, allowing her own hopes of becoming a teacher to crumble into dust.  Bella does enjoy taking care of the men though, and one in particular who she thinks back fondly on…

He and my brother Emmett had been friends forever. Heck, Edward was practically a part of the family. Growing up, he spent every spare minute with us. We would all work side-by-side to get our chores done so we could swim and fish down at the river. Even though I was friends with his sister Alice, she didn’t enjoy mud fights and baiting hooks like I did. I was a tom-boy, through-and-thorough, so I ended up being a third wheel, tagging along behind Emmett and Edward wherever they chose to go.

That was when they were children though; time and the seasons move on. Edward is studying to be a physician, like his father, but still helps out on the farm during school breaks. Bella is a young lady, constrained by circumstance, but, thanks to Edward, she gains a new awareness of what being a woman could entail…

My entire body began to flush as Edward tickled my palm with his lips. I had never, ever felt such a sensation. I could feel a tingling purr vibrate across my chest as my nipples hardened like I was outside in the cold. The sensation traveled down my body and settled between my legs, pulsing. I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath. I sucked in a gulp of air and stared at his beautiful face as he kissed my palm gently.

Sigh! Prairieward is the embodiment of sweetness and romance; he is also hot enough to ignite prairie grass!  So ladies, leave modern day life behind for a little while and revel in this gentle love story set in a simpler time.

Hard to Love by the talented storyteller, drotuno, is certainly not hard to love. It’s a short but compelling fic that really packs an emotional punch. Told completely from Edward’s point of view – except for the Fandom for Oklahoma outtake, which is BPOV and actually chapter 12 – each chapter presents Edward’s ‘Present Day’ plight and a Flashback to when Edward and Bella were children. That is where and how we learn the heartwarming progression of their special, childhood friendship into the unconditional, loving couple they are in the present day. But, where the “hard” stuff comes into play, is that all of this is recounted from…Bella’s hospital bedside.

Chapter 1

Forks, Washington

Present Day

He [Carlisle] guided me down the hallway, saying, “She’s stable, which means you can see her.”

After several turns, I knew where we were: Intensive Care Unit.  I stopped dead in my tracks at the end of the hallway.

“Just…” I gripped his sleeve. “Just…tell me, Dad. Before we go any farther. Is she… Will she… Fuck, what happened?”

I didn’t know how to ask him if I was going to lose the one person that had loved me unconditionally my entire life. I didn’t know how to stop the shaking in my hands, either. Bella Swan had  been in every moment of my life since I was seven fucking years old – through eighteen years of bullshit – including the time the man standing in front of me and his wife took me in off the streets and adopted me as their own son. She was there for it all, and it wasn’t supposed to end like this.

I know what you’re thinking, that this is going to break your heart… Well, I’m not going to sugarcoat it, I definitely shed some tears, but I also smiled through them, as Hard to Love truly is an inspirational story of two friends and lovers, that no matter what life held for them, stayed together through thick and thin – for better or for worse. And as Edward tells us, while he talks to a “sleeping” Bella, the magic all started when he met his real life “Princess”…

“I remember the first time I held your hand, Princess,” I sighed, playing with each of her fingers. “It was the first day we met, remember?” I smiled at the memory, but kept talking, simply to keep from falling apart. “You were this bright, happy…thing…all in pink. You had this sparkly band holding back all that hair.” I chuckled and sniffled against her hand, toying with a long, dark curl. “God, you really did look like a princess to me…”

Forks, Washington

Age  7

The sound of laughter made me mad as I walked out onto the playground, kicking a pine cone as I went. I hated being the new kid.

Stupid class. Stupid school. Stupid town. Stupid Mom and her new stupid boyfriend. …

“Did you see his hair?”

I glared over my shoulder. A group of girls looked my way and then laughed. I kicked the pine cone again, falling down into the last swing and pulling my hood forward. I wanted to go back home to Chicago, but my mom had wanted to move here. It wasn’t fair.

I dug my sneakers into the dirt at my feet, pushing slowly back. When I swung forward, I had to slam my feet back down in order not to hit someone.

“Hi!” she chirped. “You’re Edward Masen.”

I nodded, staring at her. She was all in pink, with dark hair pulled back by a sparkly thing that looked like a crown. Her smile was big and she had a bunch of freckles across her nose. But her eyes reminded me of the picture of an angel I saw once in a church in Chicago.

“You’re new, right?” she asked, and I nodded again. She giggled. “Don’t you talk?”

“Yeah,” I whispered, frowning up at her. Really, she’d been the first person to talk to me all day, besides the teacher. Everyone else just…stared.

“My name’s Bella. Today’s my birthday,” she stated proudly, sitting down in the next swing.

“I’m seven.”

“I’ve been seven since June,” I argued, rolling my eyes.

“So we’re the same.” She kicked back and started to swing.

“No.” I shook my head, swinging forward. “You’re a girl.”

Bella laughed, but for the first time all day, the sound didn’t make me mad. “I mean the same age, silly!”

“I’m still older,” I told her.

We were getting higher and higher, which caused my hood to fall back. …

“Edward, you like cupcakes?” she asked, and I nodded, licking my lips, because it had been forever since I’d had sweets. She held out her hand for mine. “Come on. I’ll get you one. My mom made them for me.”

I slipped my hand in hers, letting her pull me up from the swing. It was warm, but even though she was a girl, it didn’t feel funny to hold her hand, because she was my new friend.

See? I know you’re smiling too. Bella is a beautiful, loving soul in this story, and Edward’s love for her will make you swoon and sigh as he takes vigil by Bella’s side while she fights for her life after a terrible car accident – the power of the Edward and Bella connection is incredible here. And, remember, even though the A/N in chapter 1 says, “…this fic comes with a huge TISSUE WARNING…and is a rough ride,” I can honestly say, it’s totally worth the time to read because Bella has a hell of a lot to live for!

Stealing Home ~ Edward Cullen is hot shot baseball player in a bit of a slump. Bella Swan is the girl that he couldn’t have long ago and now she’s his new owner and he can’t have her again. Will he walk away or swing for the fences?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Edward & Bella – Chapters: 2 – Words: 20,278 – Reviews: 265 – Favs: 696 – Follows: 439 – Updated: 06-22-10 – Published: 06-07-10 – Status: Complete – id: 6031956

Stealing Home is another romantic, sexy Sportsward brought to us by one of my favourite fic authors, Nolebucgrl. Now, close your eyes, please, and imagine, Edward Cullen in tight, white baseball pants, and a fitted, white St. Louis Cardinals jersey, trimmed in red, outlining his well-defined muscles, everywhere, as he swings a hard… Yeah, you get the picture! lol And I’m pretty sure that was what a seventeen-year-old Bella Swan was thinking when twenty-year-old Edward first joined her father’s baseball team five years ago and she developed a huge crush on him. But now, today, that she is a college graduate, and the new owner of the Cardinals, after the sad and untimely death of her father, Charlie; how will Bella see the famous short stop? And more importantly… How will he see her?

I heard the distinctive click of high heels on the concrete floor and glanced over my shoulder to see what was going on. I hoped to God it wasn’t Lauren Mallory looking to corner me before the game. She worked for The Post-Dispatch and was constantly attempting to get me into bed. Like I was stupid enough to sleep with a reporter? Rejection seemed to bounce off her though; she just kept coming after me like a rabid dog.

The first thing I noticed when I caught sight of the female walking toward me was that she wasn’t Lauren. This woman put Lauren to shame in every single way. She had hair the color of the mahogany wood cabinets in my kitchen. I loved that color. Her heart shaped face was gorgeous, a perfect peaches and cream complexion, high cheekbones, deep brown eyes flecked with some gold…she was stunning. And the rest of her body was as lovely as her face. She was wearing a charcoal gray pinstriped suit/skirt combination with a cream colored blouse underneath. Her legs were perfect, shapely and muscular at the same time. The tight little package was made complete by a pair of gray heels that matched her outfit perfectly. My mouth was watering at the sight of her.

It wasn’t…it couldn’t be…”Bella?” I asked, shock coloring my tone.

*grins* I think Edward has a lot to learn about “Ms. Swan.” There is so much history, and unresolved feelings, between Edward and Bella, which develops into a sweet and passionate two chapter romance, where Baseballward makes a resounding resolve to, “…get her home run, both on and off the field.” 😉

Dear Bella by Lellabeth

Dear Bella banner

Dear Bella – December 22 is the only day I let myself think of you. I don’t know if you remember, but I’d do anything to forget.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Angst – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 13 – Words: 15,675 – Reviews: 1,026 – Favs: 418 – Follows: 540 – Updated: 06-28-13 – Published: 05-21-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9314616

Dear Lellabeth,

There are Fanfic authors who write beautiful words, stringing them together like prayer flags in an empty wilderness. There are authors who write important stories, that promote understanding and give insight into pain, suffering and joy. And there are those who use patience and care to weave a story out of captivating moments, revealing the heart of their narrative one delicate leaf at a time.

And then there’s you.

I wonder how many tears, both sad and happy, have been shed as a result of Dear Bella?

Dear Bella,

Do you remember when we met? I can still smell the marinara that got embedded in my hoodie when you bumped into me, and I still smile when I remember how your cheeks flushed redder than the sauce. I knew you of course – the police chief’s daughter come home, the new toy for all of Forks to gawk at. They stared and you faltered, stumbled and stuttered and grimaced your way through those first few days of the spotlight. Except when everyone else had grown bored and looked away, I continued to sneak glances at the glint of your hair in the sun or the way your sundress brushed the backs of your thighs.

I’d pretend to be terrible at biology just so I could watch you arch over the microscope, watch the strawberry slick of your tongue as it soothed the chapped skin of your lips and imagine it was touching mine instead. You’d catch me sometimes, forever staring, and your wide eyes trapped me like pomegranate molasses, and I wouldn’t doubt that there were moments time stood still as I watched the hammer of your hummingbird heartbeat against your neck. But you’d always look away just as I smiled, leaving it to fall just as I had fallen.

As I said to you this week, thank you for tearing my heart into pieces with a few, carefully woven chapters; and for stitching it back together again with the skill of a story-tailor.

Yours always,

Dear Bella ch1

As with most things in life, Twifics come in many different sizes.  And, as you can see from this selection of stories, bigger doesn’t always mean better.

As you are probably aware, many stories have been pulled from FanFiction.net for violation of terms. Rather than dwell on that move, we would love to help readers find their favourite authors on other sites.  With that in mind, we’d like both authors and readers to feel free to post links to profiles and/or share users names from other sites in the comments below.

Fantastic FilmFics!

I’m sure we are all familiar with the phrase, “The best of both worlds.” Basically, it means that a person can enjoy the advantages of two very different things at the same time. Those five simple words have inspired books to be written, poems to be penned, and songs to be composed because it’s something many people strive for as they express themselves through their creative medium of choice.

In Twific terms, I think the best of both worlds is realized when we see our beloved Twilight characters placed in the main roles of our favorite movies. You know, Bella as Vivian in Pretty Woman or Edward as Rhett Butler in Gone With the Wind. We are able to picture each scene and relive each magic, movie moment with a twist of Twilight mixed in. One of us is still waiting for a Han Soloward to be written *side eyes at Ilovealion* …but in the mean time, take a look at the other Twilight FilmFics we’ve tracked down for you to enjoy.

 *Reviews by Cared*

I admit reading these stories was sort of weird…but weird in a good way, as all three of these fics feature the cast of Twilight characters I know and love, with familiar plot lines too – because I’ve seen and enjoyed the films which inspired them. While Pretty Woman, Sweet Home Alabama and August Rush are all undeniably good stories and movies in their own right, for someone like me, and I hope many of you, Edward and Bella being the protagonists in these versions, is the cherry on top of the cake.

I read Twilight itself before the first film was made, thereby ensuring I had my own visual of Edward in my mind, but was then delighted when I saw Catherine Hardwick’s choice to play him. Perfect! All these years later, my Edwards still bear an uncanny resemblance to Rob in all his varied forms.  For me, the Edward in Bella Donna (Pretty Woman) was a Rome Rob, and Coming Home To You (Sweet Home Alabama) was more of a Remember Me Rob. My difficulty arose upon reading Reaching For Stars (August Rush) as Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is one of my top three favourite actors, and his image and singing voice kept popping into my mind as I read. LOL  Oh, what delicious inner-eye candy I savoured while reading these fics.  Sigh!

Bella Donna by JiffyKate

Bella Donna ~ Edward and Bella are similar creatures; they both screw people for money, but one of them goes for blood. It’s nothing personal…until it is.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Drama/Romance – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 17 – Words: 61,994 – Reviews: 994 – Favs: 408 – Follows: 718 – Updated: 09-15-13 – Published: 04-05-13 – id: 9175099

This is one of those fics where I had to ponder long and hard over how much to tell you to entice you, without robbing you of the pleasure of finding out for yourself.  I could simply say it’s a Pretty Woman meets Twilight fic, but that would not do it justice.  The basic premise is there, of course, I mean, Bella is a hooker and Edward is her John, and he does pick her up in a borrowed stick-shift car to take her back to his posh hotel for the night.  He even ends up hiring her for the week, and despite both their best efforts, feelings get involved, lines are blurred and crossed, and what should have been a simple business transaction suddenly becomes very complicated indeed.  If you’ve seen the film Pretty Woman, none of this should surprise you.  What will be a surprise though, are the tantalising extra layers of plot that JiffyKate have cleverly woven throughout, which only serve to turn a good story into a completely captivating and fascinating one.

If you’ve previously read anything from the talented duo of JiffyKate, something else that won’t surprise you is this fic being so sexually hot…

Are you okay?”

She seems surprised at my question. “Yeah, I’m great.”

“Good. I was worried that I was too rough.”

She slowly sits down on the bed. “It was rough but nothing I can’t handle. I, um, really liked it.”

I watch as her blush covers her cheeks and moves all the way down to her rosy nubs causing them to harden. My dick automatically follows suit.

“I want to fuck you again.”

“You certainly aren’t afraid to say what you want, are you?”

“I’m not afraid of anything, Bella, and I always get what I want. Besides, I’ve already paid you. You’re mine for the entire night.” I reach out to touch her shiny blonde hair but she jerks her head away.

“You have your rules, I have mine. No touching the hair.”

Fuck, she’s hot. A small part of me wonders what Bella is hiding, but who the hell am I to judge? We all have our secrets. Besides, now is not the time to worry about such things; I have much more pressing issues at hand.

I try to stifle the growl that’s rumbling in my chest as I pull her onto my lap. I push two of my fingers in her mouth and command her to suck on them before taking them out and rubbing the moisture on her swollen pussy. When Bella starts rolling her hips and moaning, I know she is ready for me. Grabbing her hips, I lift her up slightly before pulling her back down on my cock.

I grit my teeth in frustration when I realize that fucking Bella feels even better the second time.

It’s not only the plot that has extra layers. Midnight Cougar and I discussed  (read, salivated over) Edward and we agreed he is MORE.  His otherworldly, commanding presence, his brilliant intellectual CEO power, and his above par performance in the bedroom, add up to MORE.

Edward has three rules:
– No kissing
– No oral
– Just fucking!
I only have one:
– Just read this scintillating story now!

Reaching for Stars ~ Sometimes you don’t know what you’re looking for until you’ve already found it. *Inspired by the movie “August Rush”. Ten year old Bree runs away from her foster home to meet her favorite singer. Eighteen year old Bella needs a new outlook on life, and finds solace in a beautiful stranger that completely turns her life upside down. *AH, B/E

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Drama – Chapters: 23 – Words: 54,938 – Reviews: 577 – Favs: 217 – Follows: 363 – Updated: 08-29-13 – Published: 06-28-13 – id: 9435225

This author’s note is to be found at the beginning of the story:

Ten year old Bree Tanner has a dream to meet the band Cullen, or more specifically, their lead singer Edward Masen. When Cullen’s summer tour brings them closer than ever, Bree knows it’s her chance. Against the wishes of her parents, she sets out on a journey to finally meet her idol, but in doing so she learns more about herself than she ever thought possible.

Eighteen year old Isabella Swan is focused. She dedicates every last minute to her Columbia University education, but when her roommate asks to be accompanied to a party for the band Cullen, Isabella reluctantly agrees. While there, she meets a dashing stranger who completely captivates her, and for the first time in her life, she finds herself falling off course

Inspired by the movie “August Rush”, this story follows both Bree and Bella as they struggle to overcome the hardships they face, and find a way back to the life they were always meant to be living.

There will be some romance, drama, slight angst, and ultimately an uplifting HEA.

Well, what can I add to that?

Bree is brilliantly written! Her story is heart breaking, but the child herself, and how she copes with life is truly heartwarming.  It’s almost painfully poignant, but from the moment I met her, I just had to believe in her finding a HEA, as much as she believes in finding Edward Cullen.

As for Edward and Bella, their moment together is all too brief, nevertheless – it is beautiful and unforgettable…

He smiled wistfully. “I’m from Chicago, so I guess it’s not that much different than here. What do you miss the most about your home…I mean, besides family and friends,” he asked, swooping the conversation right back to me.

“I don’t know, the stars maybe….The high buildings and bright lights don’t let too much of the sky through.”

“That’s true….but again, maybe you’re just not looking at it the right way.”

“Meaning?” I asked with a smile, already knowing he had another beautiful lesson to teach me.

“Come here,” he said before grabbing my hand. The moment his skin touched mine there was an immediate physical reaction that zinged between us; it was electrifying, a spark stronger than any other I felt before. He looked at me as if he felt it too, but he just smiled and pulled me behind him towards the opposite side of the roof. “Look,” he insisted while pointing out over the city skyline.

My heart jumped. “Stars!” I said excitedly. It wasn’t really stars; in fact it was overcast that night, but the lights illuminating from all the buildings’ windows was almost as amazing. It surprised me that I never noticed it before, but then again, I was always too busy to pause long enough to truly see anything. “Thank you for showing this to me…”

“Edward,” he answered with a crooked smile. He still had my hand grasped firmly in his, but he squeezed it tenderly as almost a way to shake my hand for the greeting.

“I’m Bella,” I said with a returning smile.

“Well Bella, it’s nice to meet you.”

My heart fluttered. “It’s nice to meet you too.”

I can’t quite put my finger on what it is exactly about this fic that appeals to me.  The plot is interesting and pulled at my heartstrings, and the main characters are sympathetic; they quickly and effortlessly drew me into their lives.  The secondary characters are certainly an eclectic bunch, including true and loyal friends in Jake and Alice, and the vile, despicable Victoria and Riley.  But, it is something more than that…maybe it’s the vibe given off by this absorbing story or the strong emotional element.  It is all-human, yet it has that lovely feeling there is a greater force in the universe guiding our dear characters, which gives it an extra layer of interest.  Perhaps it’s all that reaching for stars!

Coming Home to You ~ When Bella is forced to go back to her hometown to take care of unfinished business, will she be able to leave the past behind her or is she just finally coming home?

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Drama – Chapters: 22 – Words: 39,675 – Reviews: 322 – Updated: 6-20-11 – Published: 10-7-10 – Bella & Edward – Complete

Edward and Bella have been inseparable since they were tots, and it looked like they would be devoted to each other for well…forever.

Bella peddled her bike as hard as she could, her long brown hair blowing in the breeze behind her. Finally arriving at Edward’s, she threw her bike down and ran into the back yard where she knew he would be. Flinging the door to the old barn open, she found Edward exactly as she had a hundred times before. He stood before her in an old pair of ripped jeans and one of his favorite flannels, a pair of old work boots on his feet. All were splattered with paint that had somehow not made it on the large piece of cardboard in front of him.

Edward loved to paint. He had begged his mom and dad for canvases like real artists used, but they weren’t able to afford them at the time. So, Edward had settled for large pieces of cardboard that he would tack in front of him while he worked on his masterpieces. He often imagined that one day he would have his very own place to paint in peace and not have to hide away in a barn.

“Edward, whatcha doing?” Bella asked as she took a seat on one of the extra stools Edward had brought out for her one day. He figured since she spent as much time in here as he did, she should be comfortable.

“Nothing much. You ready to go?” he asked her as he began to pack away his painting supplies. He cherished every item he had. Not knowing when his parents would have the extra money to buy him more supplies, Edward made sure to take care of the ones he had.

Once he was all packed up, he walked over to Bella and grabbed her hand, leading her out of the barn. The two of them walked hand in hand down the well worn path behind the Cullen’s property. They both knew this path very well since this too was a daily thing for them. Once they had reached the meadow, they both laid down in the tall wildflowers, hands still clasped between them.

After a few moments of silence, Edward turned to Bella, almost willing her to look at him. Finally feeling the sensation that he was watching her, she turned to him, brown eyes meeting green.

“Bella Swan, one day I’m gonna marry you,” Edward told her with complete conviction. Bella looked over at him, smiling widely. Bella shook her head at him, laughing a little bit as she sat up. Edward followed suit, and sat up beside her.

“Now why would you wanna marry me, Edward?” she asked him as she held his hand tightly in hers.

“So that every day you can be the last person I see before I go to sleep and the first one I see when I wake up,” he told her. They both smiled at each other and leaned in together, sharing their first kiss.

Oh, my!  Isn’t that one of the most romantic and sweet lines in the universe? It made me simultaneously melt and smile.  You would think the next line should be “and they all lived happily ever after”, but it’s not.  I was left wondering what on earth had happened to drive Edward and Bella apart.  Not just metaphorically speaking – Bella now lives in New York and Edward still lives in Forks.

Riley, a suit from New York, proposes to Bella, she accepts, and travels home to Forks for the first time in seven years.  It’s not purely a social visit as she has the teeney-weeney, itsy-bitsy, little matter of getting a divorce from Edward to take care of.  Of course, I was rooting straight away for Bella to reunite with Edward; I did feel a tad sorry for Riley though, as he is totally unaware of an ex-husband – or not so ex as it turns out.  The fact that I envisaged him as Patrick Dempsey, (aka Dr. McDreamy) has absolutely nothing to do with it. *wink* (Understand what I mean about all the inner-eye candy now?)

Naturally, Edward and Bella fight, say and do mean things to each other, make stupid mistakes, and are the last people to recognise they are both still in love.

So, make a bowl of popcorn, dim the lights and settle down to enjoy the banter, the underlying love and the entertaining secondary characters. And, just like in a good RomCom, let’s see if Edward and Bella find their way home to one another.

La Ville Lumière by Audeamus-Amor

La Ville Lumière ~ COMPLETE: Inspired by the Before Sunrise/Before Sunset films, Bella and Edward meet in Paris. With only 12 hours left in a city made for lovers, how will they fare? Rated M for My God, I can’t believe I wrote a Lemon. AU, AH, ExB, THREE-Shot.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 3 – Words: 16,578 – Reviews: 73 – Favs: 132 – Follows: 39 – Updated: 03-07-09 – Published: 03-05-09 – Status: Complete – id: 4904279

This three-part story, told from both BPOV and EPOV, may be short but it certainly isn’t lacking in anything, especially adventure and romance! La Ville Lumière was inspired by the 1995 romantic drama film Before Sunrise, starring Ethan Hawke; where a young American man, and a young French woman, meet on an European train and disembark in Vienna, as they spend the night walking around the city, and getting to know each other, and then its 2004 sequel, Before Sunset, which picks up the story years later.

The premise for this story is much the same, except the ending differs somewhat and it is set in Paris, France – la ville de l’amour – and both Bella and Edward are young Americans on a lone, summer adventure before real life dictates its expectations. They casually meet outside a French pub, as Edward offers Bella a light for her cigarette. Their romantic connection is instantaneous and one could even say…smokingly erotic…

He gave me another appraising look, his eyes traveling up my body just once, tauntingly slow. My insides squelched at the obvious insinuation in the look and I cleared my throat to stop him, playing the part of the good girl. He gave me another dazzling smile before he took steps forward, his chest nearly touching mind. My breath faltered as his fingertips came dangerously close to my lips, his earthy smell and just a hint of cologne mingling pleasantly in the air around me. He plucked the cigarette from my mouth and I licked my lips unconsciously the moment he pulled it away.

He smiled at me again, reassuring yet burning with his easily won intensity. It probably came naturally to him, that smoldering look, it was a mainstay of all men that looked the way he did; it was like the membership card to the club. He moved to place my unlit cigarette between his lips and I opened my mouth to protest, but when he gave me a challenging ‘tut’ I quickly quieted. He touched the cherry to the end, his deliciously full lips closing around the cigarette that had only just been in my mouth, and inhaled… Sexily. I didn’t know that breathing could be sexy, but watching the way his eyelashes fluttered just barely as he inhaled and the sound of the softest moan rumbling from his throat as he exhaled confirmed it. Breathing could be sexy. Almost painfully sexy. He offered it to me and I took it, his fingers brushing against mine.

And, as in true Twilight fashion…sparks fly! But when they part ways, and she walks off into the Paris night, something quickly changes in Edward’s mind, and on their last night en Paris, he decides to up the ante and propositions her with an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity…

“Miss! Wait!”

I turned around, my decision still unmade.

“Yeah?” I called back, stopped in my spot.

“Come with me!” he called, his eyes shining with the promise of an adventure.

“I don’t even know you!” I yelled, ignoring the confused looks of an elderly couple as they stepped around me on the street.

“Well,” he carried on, not missing a beat, “Get to know me!”

His boyish enthusiasm was impossible to ignore, the glint in his eye more charming than anything he had pulled out thus far. Looking at him, I knew the night would be anything but boring, the opposite of safe. 18 years of careful, self-imposed maturity was protesting somewhere inside of me. No! Don’t do it! I shook my head at him, just barely, refusing his invitation, agreeing with the voices in my head. He was leaning out, his upper body hanging over the edge of the window.

He pouted at me playfully and shrugged, “Please?”

I took a step toward him and stopped. Don’t do it. Do it. Don’t do it. Do it! I teetered on my feet, my teeth worrying my bottom lip, my hand clenching and unclenching into fists at my side. Everything about him screamed reckless, screamed playboy, and while I knew that I probably shouldn’t have, I took a step forward…. Then backward…Another two steps forward… And another… And finally, I broke into a run…

I knew what I needed …

…And what I needed was an adventure.

Oh, yes, Bella, that’s exactly what you need! Ooh, la la, so much ‘love at first sight’ and sweet romance. *wink*

And there is now a final installment of this series of movies, called Before Midnight (2013)… And I am hoping the author of La Ville Lumière may someday be inspired to write a bit more of her lovely tale, so we can see where life took these two adventurers.

From Geek To Chic ~ Convinced she was headed to permanent residency in Loserville, Bella Swan would have done anything to fit in with the popular crowd. What if she was presented with an opportunity to do just that? Would she take it happily or would she stop and think about the person she was leaving behind? Inspired by 13 going on 30. Romance, drama, humor and a little bit of everything.

I previously reviewed From Geek To Chic by MrsK81 in the Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue…. post, but wanted to mention it again because it fits into today’s post perfectly. It was inspired by the 2004 movie 13 Going on 30, where an unpopular girl or “geek” falls asleep and wakes up many years later as an older, professional woman but with the personality of a child in an adult’s body… She has a whole new and different life, both personally and professionally, to cope and deal with, and Bella’s adventures are as fun to read in this fic, as Jenna’s were to watch in the movie. From Geek To Chic continues to make me smile; Bella is strong, intelligent, and resilient, and I am still following and enjoying each update.

Again, this is a sweet Twific that I have mentioned a few times in past posts, but since it is also inspired by a movie, the excellent flick, Pretty Woman, I’d be remiss not to mention Lady Of The Knight. Not only is it a lovely, romantic read, it’s a different twist on the movie that makes it a bit unique and interesting, and as the author says, “It’s very loosely based on the movie Pretty Woman. I loved Richard Gere in this movie. He played a fantastic piano playing Edward.” *nods head and swoons*

Mate of Honor by MagTwi78

Mate of Honor ~ Best friends Bella and Edward have a deal—if they’re not married by the time they’re 30, they’ll marry each other. While she’s been searching for Mr. Right, he’s been busy with Miss. Right Now. Would you be happy seeing your long-time love say ‘I do’ to someone else? B & E, M

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Humor – Chapters: 15 – Words: 29,538 – Reviews: 677 – Updated: 9-12-13 – Published: 11-29-12 – Edward & Bella WiP

Warning: MagTwi78 has an evil streak and she’s taking it out on poor Edward – and I adore him! Actually, I also adore MagTwi78 because she has given us an Edward who is thoroughly charming, completely inept at showing his feelings and tries so hard to show Bella just who the best man is – the poor boy!

Hold on, I’m getting ahead of myself…let me set the scene. Bella is working in Australia and calls her best friend, Edward, with news…

I stretch my legs further, pointing and flexing my toes. “So why are you calling? Nobody else to torment?”

“What? Can’t I call my best friend?”

“Of course you can.” I can hear my own voice softening. “I just don’t think you called to tell me you were eating lunch.”

Again, that laugh—I’ll never get sick of the sound. “Okay, I’ll cut to the chase.” A gulp, that sounds more like drinking than eating. “I’m letting you off the hook.”

“Which one?”

“The one that ties you to me forever.”

My heart falters. “What do you mean?”

“I’m doing it! I’m really doing it!”

“Doing what?”

“Edward, I’m getting married!” Bella laughs again, that husky chuckle that I’ve loved all my life, and the world falls away from my feet. “And I want you to be my mate of honor!”

*gasp!* Pause for dramatic effect and heartstopping moment – *ohmyedward* and chapter two!

“I’m sorry? You want me to be your what?” My heart has just been ripped from my chest, and she’s speaking some bizarre dialect.

Bella giggles again. “My mate of honor! Isn’t that the cutest?”

Cute? “Who are you, and what have you done with my best friend?” And my reason for living.

“You crack me up, Edward. Seriously. You see, I was talking to Benno about it—”

My defenses are instantly up. “Who’s Benno?”

“My fiancé, of course! Anyway, he’s an Aussie. I met him through work—he’s one of the curators at the museum. We started talking at Starbucks. He bought me a coffee because I was holding up the line—it wasn’t my fault, their money is all colorful and confusing and plastic. So we exchanged numbers, went out a couple of times, and really hit it off.”

I hate the guy already. And what the fuck kind of name is “Benno,” anyway?

Bella giggles before she continues. “One night he took me to dinner and asked if I believed in love at first sight, and it was so romantic! And then we went for a walk along the pier, and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Isn’t that the sweetest thing?”

I bite back my immediate response and go with something a little more non-committal. “Mhm.”

“And you just have to be in the wedding! But you can’t be the ‘maid’ of honor, obviously.” I can practically hear her eyes roll. “And I was telling Benno about you, and he said you could be my mate of honor. You know, ’cause you’re a bloke.”

And so it begins! Mate of Honor is delightfully written – the gentle humour that Mag injects into the story appears effortless because her writing is so smooth. The torment she inflicts on Edward is teasing and affectionate. It’s both a joy and horror to see his reactions and competitive streak appear, making him behave ridiculously. The more he puts himself into uncomfortable situations to get Bella to notice him as not just her best mate, the more I will him on to win her heart – or maybe he just doesn’t realise that he doesn’t have to try quite so hard.

Written completely from Edward’s PoV, it’s a bloke’s view of weddings and all that goes with them – That’s right. My gift bags are classy. I googled bachelorette gift bags as part of my research—and I was pretty freaked out by the stuff that appeared. My Bella is a sophisticated girl; I’m giving her a high-class event. No cocks on straws at this party. LMAO if men only knew the half of it…!

MagTwi78 has me giggling, swooning and cheering Edward on in equal measures as he tries to be all things to the girl he thought he’d walk down the aisle by default – simply because she was supposed to be his all along.

Although we’re fifteen chapters in there may be a little way to go yet and I never want it to end!

Twilight on the BLUE LAGOON  ~ Bella was one of the popular sophomores in her high school, but when a class trip goes awry she finds herself marooned on a tropical island with Edward Cullen, the resident school geek. The two must overcome their differences and learn to work together in order to survive. If you’re a fan of ‘Twilight’ and ‘Blue Lagoon’, this is the story for you! *more info inside* AH, AU, E/B

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Adventure – Bella – Chapters: 34 – Words: 136,647 – Reviews: 3,868 – Favs: 2,003 – Follows: 1,622 – Updated: 10-17-12 – Published: 07-11-12 – Status: Complete – id: 8309300

I have many guilty secrets, many of which I won’t share at the moment (‘cause really, that is TMI), but one I will share is that I loved Blue Lagoon when I first saw it in the 1980’s, and I remember having to sneak around behind my Mum’s back to see it! *sigh* Those were the days…

So to see a Twilight/Blue Lagoon crossover was pretty exciting for me – even more exciting though was the fact that knicnort3 wrote it.  I may or may not have bounced up and down when I saw the alert when she published the first chapter.  I read the story as a brand new WIP, and I followed along with the adventure of Bella and Edward with all the faithfulness of a terrier puppy.

First up – I will let you in on a little secret – you aren’t going to like this Bella at first. She is one of the “popular” crowd and thinks quite well of herself, so when she gets stranded with Edward – who is quite unlike any Edward I have encountered before – she is rude and downright nasty to him.  This, of course, is quite a turn up for the books, as how many times have we encountered the opposite situation – where Edward is the loathsome one?  Just like we always forgive the Jerkwards – you will forgive and get to understand our little “Jerkella” here.

One thing about it, though, you will love Edward immediately, particularly if you have a soft spot for Geekwards.  But it’s got to be said, Edward adapts to his “deserted island” surrounds very quickly and becomes quite the survivalist.

A little glimpse of Survivalist Edward and Bitchy Bella mellowing a little in chapter three…

He looked absolutely ridiculous standing out there with a bright orange life vest and large pointy stick…but he didn’t seem to care. He was stranded on an island with a girl who was sure to make fun of him and had in the past, but none of that mattered to him. He was focused on getting fish and surviving the day, and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t inspiring. He was right, none of that crap mattered and there was no reason to be embarrassed on that island – there wasn’t room for it, and we sure as hell didn’t have the extra energy to waste on something as superficial as looking good and acting cool.

I decided then that it was time to pull my head out of my ass and do my fair share of contributing to our survival… so I gave myself the nauseating task of cleaning the fish he already caught. It was the last thing I really wanted to do, but it wasn’t right that he was doing all the work while I just sat there and watched.

I took out his knife, and winced as I cut the head off the first fish. “Ewww!” I wanted to vomit. “Pull it together, Swan,” I told myself with a deep breath, turning my face so I didn’t have to smell the stench of the bloody fish. But then something clicked in my mind and I willed myself to just get through it. Once I was determined to get it done, it was much easier and I realized it wasn’t even as gross as I was expecting. Next I cut open the abdomen, and rinsed it out in the waves before bringing it back to the fire.

When I got both fish cleaned, skewered, and set over the fire, Edward returned completely soaked.

“You cleaned the fish?” he asked surprised as he unsnapped his life vest. “How’d you know how to do that?”

I shrugged. “My dad is an avid fisherman and used to make me go with him. I always refused to clean them before, but I watched enough times to know what to do,” I explained.

“Cool,” he said. When he opened his vest to take it off, two more fish fell out.

“Wow, you did well,” I said impressed.

“It wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be,” he said with a smirk.

I cleaned the other two fish, and then roasted those as well. When they were finished, we sat there and ate them feeling like it was Thanksgiving. The two medium to small sized fish we each had wasn’t much by normal standards, but we were beyond stuffed and spent the rest of the evening throwing up.

“Ugh, were they poisonous?” I asked weakly.

“No, I think we just ate too much after not eating anything for a few days,” he explained.

I had already vomited in front of Edward once before, but doing it at the same time as him, side by side, was absolutely disgusting and yet strangely cathartic. He didn’t comment on it, and neither did I. We just did what we needed to do and waited for the other to finish as well. When we were both done emptying the contents of our stomachs onto the sand, we helped each other up and walked slowly back to where we had slept the night before. We laid down wishing for the horrible feeling to just pass as soon as possible, and we drifted off to sleep for the night.”

I won’t give away too much of the plot, but lots happen to our favourite couple while stranded on their deserted island, and they both change immensely (Edward’s is more of a physical change and Bella’s a mental one).

I loved this story SO much…I never doubted I would for a second (even when Bella was being a 24-karat bitch).  knicnort3 has a talent for surprising and entertaining her readers in equal measure and this story is no exception, even if Blue Lagoon was before your time, you don’t even need to worry – you will enjoy this story regardless!

Fan Fiction Fridays

Just like people, friendships come in all shapes and sizes. Some are short and sweet, serving a momentary purpose, while others are strong and formidable, lasting for years.

No matter the type of relationship, all friends have one thing in common. At some point in time, they met.

I think  the American author, Anais Nin, described it best:

“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.”

As I, ilovealion, sit at my dear Cared’s kitchen table in Ireland, I see Anais’ words come to life. As friends joined together in person and via Skype, the FicSix created this meaningful post. My “new world” was born because of a few comments on a Twilight blog, and it continues today, almost three years later, as something more precious than I ever anticipated.

Twilight and Twific have brought us all together. So, today’s post is appropriately about friendships and their beginnings. Let’s take a look at the “meet sweets” of Edward and Bella in some of our favorite stories.

Fanfiction Addicts and Review Whores ~ Bella Swan is a closet fanfiction addict who lacks romance in her life, so she decides to create it online. After transitioning from fanfiction reader to fanfiction writer she butts heads online with TonyMazen69, a well-known smut writer in the Moonlight fanfiction world. What happens when the two bickering fanfiction writers meet during a three-day Moonlight Fanfic Convention?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Humor/Romance – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 11 – Words: 27,894 – Reviews: 718 – Favs: 384 – Follows: 694 – Updated: 08-27-13 – Published: 04-04-13 – id: 9169385

Chapter One is entitled ‘The First Step is Admitting’ and opens, quite fittingly so, with Bella attending an AA meeting seeking solace in a safe place; a place where no one would judge…

There is a semi-circle of metal chairs in the middle of the room. Haggard looking guys and girls, some older than I, some younger, sit in the chairs. Their faces droop and are lined with distress and hard times. I probably look just as rough. When I got dressed earlier tonight I noticed the dark shadows beneath my eyes and my brown hair, once full and shiny, now hung limp and lackluster past my shoulders.

A tall man in his mid-twenties stands near the front of the room. He looks vaguely familiar, and it doesn’t take me long to identify him as Mike Newton. Mike Newton is quite a catch in our small town. It’s probably the blonde hair and sparkling sky blue eyes that draw the women in the most, or possibly the fact that he’s a business owner. Mike owns Newton’s Sports Bar, and I immediately find myself snorting over the irony of the situation.

A sport’s bar owner in an AA meeting. How ironic.

Mike frowns at the sarcastic grin on my face. He’s probably remembering the torment Rose and I constantly inflicted on his dweeby ass in high school. He motions for me to sit among the group and I do. The other basement dwellers are unfamiliar to me, which means they are not locals. Although AA is supposedly anonymous, everyone knows there are no secrets in small, Southern towns. These people are probably intelligent enough to switch towns to hide their shameful addictions.

Now, why didn’t I think of that?

Mike, apparently, is the chairperson of this illustrious club of troubled souls. He stands in the middle of the semi-circle of chairs, glancing at our distraught faces as he speaks. When he meets my brown eyes, I advert my gaze to the styrofoam cup of coffee clutched in my hands. I not only try to avoid Mike’s stare, but also the smell of body odor drifting from an extremely red-faced man to my right. This dude looks as though he hasn’t seen a tub of water in a year.

“Do we have any newcomers who’d like to stand and introduce themselves?” Mike asks.

My eyes dart up from the dark swell of liquid in my hands. Mike meets my stare head-on, pleading with his eyes for me to stand. I take a deep breath, knowing that this was the reason I was here, to admit I had a problem. I stood, sat my cup of coffee on the metal chair, and carefully smoothed out any wrinkles in my black dress pants.

“My name is Bella Swan,” I begin, taking a deep ragged breath as I met the smiling, friendly faces of my basement companions. “And I’m a fanficaholic.”

I roared with laughter when I read that scene.  Why?  Did I consider Bella a caricature to be ridiculed?  No!  I recognised a sister soul in Bella and I could picture myself sitting next her to with wild eyes and pounding heart, clutching on to her with a sweaty palm.  Why?  *clears throat – scrapes back chair – stands up – titters nervously * “My name is Cared, and I’m a fanficaholic.” *side-eyes at Ally Vera, Midnight Cougar, Ilovealion, Gingerandgreen and Wiltshire Glo*

Now, along with this fabulous Bella I can identify with, this hilarious story has a cast of characters with interesting online user names such as AngelWings, AliceTrippinThruWonderland and JazzyPoo22.  My favourite of them being Edward, aka TonyMazen69, who leads a ‘pathetic existence as a complete and utter review whore and eventual novelist’. The Oxford Dictionary Hoodfabulous definition of a review whore is: a writer who thrives on his or her reviews, constantly living in the sweet, sweet glory of the encouraging, thoughtful words of his readers. 😉

I’m really looking forward to these online friends meeting at the upcoming Moonlight Fanfic Convention.  I hope they experience the magical connection I was blessed to find upon meeting my online friends.

Maybe I’m Falling For You by coldplaywhore and Flightlessbird11

Maybe I’m Falling For You ~ Edward and Bella meet one cloudy May morning at their neighborhood coffee bar. Little do they know that they have actually been conversing for several months under assumed names. Collaboration between CPW and FLB11. M for language and lemony goodness.

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Humor – Chapters: 36 – Words: 202,788 – Reviews: 6134 – Updated: 8-23-10 – Published: 8-30-09 – Edward & Bella – Complete

Online friendship – a world of ridiculous pseudonyms, anonymous avis of favourite bands, artists, or even *rolls eyes* hot young actors, leading inevitably to conversations that no one would ever have in real life! Bonding over a passion that few understand, an intense dedication to a cause or just a shared sense of humour… Sounds far-fetched? Yeah… I thought not! It’s a world we all know so well. But can silly online ramblings lead to face-to-face friendship? Would you even like each other if you met for coffee or would you be drawn together instinctively, unknowingly, regardless of where you met?

Although it’s an oldie from the world of fanfic legends, Maybe I’m Falling For You resonates even more for me now than when I first read it three years ago. It’s not difficult to understand the true affection felt for a person you’ve never met, whose given name is unknown to you and whose face you wouldn’t recognise on the street.

Coldplaywhore and Flightlessbird11 (incidentally, online friends who collaborated to write this, but hadn’t met in real-life!) capture the frivolity and lightness of online friendship, but also that magic spark between Edward and Bella.

PennyLane84: Morning Stranger.

Ah, one of my favorite times of the day, when I found my constant companion online or in today’s case she found me.

 Paperback_Writer: Morning yourself.

PennyLane84: I didn’t see you around last night, started to worry you got attacked by the parrot lady again.

Paperback_Writer: Thankfully no, although I did see her this morning at my local coffee shop. I hid like a coward and prayed she found her own personal pirate… or walked off the plank, either option seemed good to me.

PennyLane84 and I had met online several months ago on a music based chat room where we got into a heated discussion with some punk teenager with the handle ‘Paul_iz_Ded’, who insisted to us that the Beatles were overrated. Of course, PennyLane and I being huge Beatles fans, as evidenced by our own handles, spent the next few hours trying to bend him to our ways and lead him from the dark side, to no avail. On a positive note though, I struck an unlikely friendship with another fellow New Yorker and we chatted about virtually everything, including my favorite parrot lady.

PennyLane84: That’s a shame, she sounded like a lovely woman, arrghh… (attempting pirate impression. Is it working?)

Paperback_Writer: Yeah, I tend to prefer my ladies with pets that don’t molt. (No, not really. LOL)

PennyLane84: No molting pets. Got it. Can you handle two crazy roommates? Thanks for crushing my ego btw.

Paperback_Writer: Well if it helps at all, I am sure hidden behind your computer monitor I am certain you are a pretty woman. (Stroking the ego as best as I can) I don’t do crazy roommates either. If I did, I’d still be living with my two best friends.

PennyLane84: Apology accepted. Do you live alone?

Paperback_Writer: No. I have 87 cats actually. I’m the cat man of New York City.

PennyLane84: See, we could never work in real life. I love dogs.

Paperback_Writer: Whatever PL84. You don’t have a pet, you just told me so. What makes you think you wouldn’t like one of my cats?

 PennyLane84: Allergies.

Paperback_Writer: Look at that… the cats are gone. I have an allergy to raisins, or at least I tell people I do because I hate the texture.

PennyLane84: And you think the parrot lady is weird?

Paperback_Writer: Make fun all you want. Didn’t you previously mention an aversion to cereal?

PennyLane84: Not all cereal… just the shit that stays crunchy in milk. I mean, how do they do that? Isn’t it supposed to go soft? I’m certain they smother the cereal in all sorts of additives and preservatives that will probably cause me to sprout a third limb. Although I suppose an extra arm would help me walk the dogs.

Paperback_Writer: It always comes back to those damned dogs.

PennyLane94: So what’s on your agenda for the day?

Paperback_Writer: Oh you know, the regular shit. Knitting an afghan for my hard of hearing grandmother with belly button lint, taking my underwater basket weaving class down at the Y and after that I think I have to skip to my loo. What about you PL?

PennyLane84: I have to get to work and walk some dogs around a park, scooping up their feces for way too little money. Then I think I might force my roommates to eat some of my atrociously bad cooking.

Paperback_Writer: Sounds thrilling. Too bad you can’t cook for me, I’m absolutely horrible. Perhaps I should sign up for cooking classes at the Y after I’m done learning about underwater basket weaving.

PennyLane84: Dog walking is not thrilling in the least, but it certainly beats working for the man, don’t you think? As for the cooking, my roommates say it’s good, but I tend to be a bit experimental. I think they are just being nice because I haven’t killed them yet.

Paperback_Writer: Ah death by casserole, what a way to go.

PennyLane84: Speaking of going, if I don’t sign off soon the Pug might walk himself. Have a great morning PBW. C U Soon.

With that final sign off, she was gone. Her name was no longer highlighted on my little messenger system and my heart stopped soaring for a moment. I tried to ignore the thoughts and feelings my online friend made come to life within me and grabbed my coffee and paper, opting to get comfortable on my couch to finish up the morning.

It’s such a lovely story to get swept along with – and if, like me, you’ve had the pleasure of meeting some online friends and recognising kindred spirits, this will make your heart glad. Bearing in mind that real life can often be stranger than fiction, be sure to take note of your fellow coffee drinkers…you never know if one of your closest online friends is actually only a few steps away! 😀

Tropic of Virgo by In.a.Blue.Bathrobe

Tropic of Virgo ~ He’s a young but jaded musician writing lyrics for his band, and she’s a naive, frustrated poet looking to break out of her shell; their words collide online. What happens when they meet in high school, unaware of their literary connection?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Chapters: 38 – Words: 150,800 – Reviews: 19,670 – Favs: 12,213 – Follows: 5,175 – Updated: 09-09-13 – Published: 03-04-09 – Status: Complete – id: 4901517

When my fellow FicSix colleagues discussed doing a post which covered Edward and Bella meeting (or probably more importantly) getting to know each other online, the first story that popped into my head and stuck there was the wonderful Tropic of Virgo, written by the uber-talented  In.a.Blue.Bathrobe.

We meet both Edward and Bella in the first chapter when they “discover” each other online.  Bella writes poetry and Edward loves her words, and she loves his.  Unbeknownst to both of them, the girl from Phoenix and the boy from Forks are soon to meet in person – but it is a quite a while before Edward and Bella find out that they are each others’ online personas of Debussy_88 and Ordinary_Girl.  They are brought together online with their words, but when they meet in real life, they are brought together by music.  And here unfolds the plot…  Edward is a member of the band Breaking Dawn and when he first hears Bella sing, he knows she is what he is looking for.  But nothing ever goes as smoothly as you hope!

Now, my normal “M.O.” is to show Bella’s first glimpse of Edward (because you know, that is always my favourite part), but today, I have to share Edward’s beautifully worded first sight of Bella – just after reading Ordinary_Girl’s latest comment to him…

“The words triggered a song to tumble around in my head, and it occurred to me that I was arranging for the mystery girl’s voice, and I could hear her speaking, a breathy alto, ultra feminine and warm with residual laughter, and imagining it made my heart beat faster, and I realized with horror that it was real, she was here, chestnut brown hair and navy hoodie and that incredibly sensuous voice telling the teacher, “I’m Bella Swan,” and she was so beautiful and simple and genuine I wanted to cry, or ravage her mouth with mine, or beg her to sing for no-one but me.

Instead I just sat there, gripping the table, not knowing what to do or what to say. The irony of it infuriated me. My name was synonymous with money and style, my reputation with the ladies famous. I was the lead singer in a rock band, and I’d lost my nerve for a shy little girl who wasn’t even wearing lipstick. She approached my desk, tripping slightly, and I recoiled. Her wide eyes were clear brown, and I wanted to drown in their sweetness and warmth, but then she frowned a little, and the blush from the lunchroom returned with full force. She looked down, and sat next to me, and I remembered to breathe.

How could she be both the sultry torch singer and this? How could this awkward slip of a girl affect me this way? She wore slim jeans and a baggy shirt that hid every possible curve, no make-up except for that stuff that goes on the eyelashes, which was redundant, because they were so ridiculously long they looked fake, and chapped lips that probably got that way because she bit them nervously, and oh, God, she was biting her lip, pink flesh caught in white teeth.”

The thing I just loved the most about this story was the beautiful, poetic writing.  These two definitely have a connection that is cosmic or maybe pre-destined.  Mind you, the road isn’t an easy one for this pair, but Tropic of Virgo is worth every bump and curve you navigate.  I know ToV is probably one of the most well-known in the fandom, but we couldn’t leave it out of today’s post.  If you are one of the few who haven’t read it, trust me when I say – there is a reason it is one of the most favourited stories on FF.net!

The Best I Ever Had ~ Sex between friends complicates everything. Bella knows this. But she has no idea how much more Edward is going to complicate things.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Humor – Edward & Bella – Chapters: 14 – Words: 64,919 – Reviews: 7,218 – Favs: 9,275 – Follows: 5,466 – Updated: 06-25-12 – Published: 02-17-11 – Status: Complete – id: 6752826

Friendships grow to fill a particular role in your life, and while they may fluctuate over time they don’t normally change dramatically overnight: – over one glance, one change in the light, one unexpected spark in the eye.

In The Best I Ever Had, Edward and Bella’s friendship undergoes just such a dramatic transformation. WhatsMyNomDePlume, in her usual sexily smart style, delights in exploring the ramifications.

“Nothing,” I reply quickly. “It’s nothing.”

“What’s nothing?” Jasper pipes in as he sits down next to Alice. Behind him I see Edward enter the coffee shop and grab his drink, before heading over to our table.

Shit crap.

I need to change the subject. Now. I need to think of something riveting and juicy that’ll get their attention and make them forget all about my mystery man.

“Did you know that mama birds vomit up their food because baby birds can’t handle eating something that’s not already been digested?

That’s not it.

Emmett makes a face at me, but it’s Edward, piping up from behind me, who says what everyone is thinking. “What the fuck are you talking about, Bella?” He sits down next to his sister with a bright pink coffee cup—apparently, the coffee shop hasn’t gone back to their regular ones, even though Valentines’ Day was yesterday—as he says hi to the others.

“She’s deflecting,” Rose tells him, arching an eyebrow in challenge to me. I swear to God, if I didn’t know she didn’t know, I’d think she knew. And of all people that shouldn’t know, it’s Rose because I don’t think she’d be pleased to know that this conversation is actually about her brother.

“Deflecting from what?” Edward asks.

Oh God.

I see it happening in slow motion, the words leaving Alice’s mouth like a car skidding and screeching on the brakes, trying not to hit anything.

“Bella told us she had the best sex of her life two days ago but won’t tell us who it was with.

I wish a car would hit me right now.

“Actually, it’s ‘whom’,” Jasper corrects.

“Shut up, Jasper,” Emmett says.

Edward turns to me, his green eyes bright and blazing, and it reminds me of the look he had as I took my shirt off that night. My stomach twists, and the feeling is not as unpleasant as it sounds.

And then he smirks and looks more like what he actually is: the smuggest bastard on the planet. “Really? Really? The best sex of her life, huh?”

If you haven’t read this light-hearted, hilarious and gorgeously written classic yet, I’d really recommend that you do now. It’s just the story to share with your fanfic friends – the ones who understand the REAL you: smutty-minded, fiercely romantic and with a wicked sense of humour. At least, that’s my experience of Twifanfic friends – all of you!

Blurred Lines by SparklyLadies

Blurred Lines ~ Edward Cullen: secret phone sex operator, dirty talking pro and hopelessly in love with his best friend. When a familiar voice calls in, will the lines between friendship, love, and lust become blurred? Our entry for the 2013 Dirty Talkin Edward Twific Contest. Top 5 in the Public Vote

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Bella & Edward – Words: 14,447 – Reviews: 18 – Favs: 48 – Follows: 76 – Published: 08-29-13 – id: 9642612

I know the Dirty Talking Edward contest was last week’s post, but Blurred Lines is such a good Friends-to-more story, I had to write about it this week.

There are exactly eight freckles on your nose.

You have the tiniest scar right above your left eyebrow. It’s thin, a hairline scar, barely visible to anyone standing an acceptable distance away.

It’s from when I knocked you off your feet when we were kids. I was playing on my bike and you on your skateboard. We collided, and I sent you flying across the decking in your backyard. You split your head open.

There was blood—lots of it—and I puked all over your shirt. You’ve never let me live that one down.

You have those sexy little dimples at the bottom of your spine, right where the curve of your ass meets your lower back. Every time I see you in a bathing suit, I want to rip it off and lick those dimples. I can see them right now, in the sliver of skin exposed between your flannel pajama pants and tank top.

These are the little things I notice as I lay beside you in your bed, studying you. The sun shines through the window; light dances across your pale skin, giving it a luminescent glow. Inside, the rays warm your skin, but outside it’s cold. Fall’s quickly merging into a typical Chicago winter. Snow is forecast over the next few days.

I shiver at the thought.

You’re lying on your stomach, propped up on your elbows, hair piled high on your head as you highlight notes in your text for your test tomorrow.

Wearing no makeup and only your glasses, in this moment, you’ve never looked more beautiful to me. Of course you’re oblivious to this and absolutely clueless that I feel this way about you.

I wish I could tell you.

SparklyMeg and Twilightladies have collaborated to write something really special here. Edward ‘dirty talks’ for a living, but he’s too ashamed to tell Bella. We get a glimpse of what he’s like with ordinary women who phone the 0800 number, and while we can see how much his voice and words would make any woman melt, there’s no spark. That is a measure of the great skill of these authors, because when someone special comes on the line – wow.

I hear you gasp, and then giggle. “Wait—how do you know I’m beautiful?”

“I can tell by your voice, Marie. It’s sweet, like cotton candy. The way you caress each word, Marie, just gives me shivers. Such a beautiful voice could only belong to a beautiful girl.”

“I…” You’re speechless already.

“So I know that you look beautiful, Marie. And I know that you sound beautiful.” I pause, and lower my voice to a whisper, “But can you guess what I really want to know, Marie?”

“Um… what?” you whisper.

“I really want to know how you smell.”

Perhaps you wouldn’t think so from the concept, but this story is about friendship and the deep and abiding love of our favourite fiction pair. The SparklyLadies do plan to write more when they’ve finished their current WiPs, so put it on alert and enjoy.

Talk Dirty To Me, Edward…

Welcome to another week of Fan Fiction Fridays, everyone!  This week we thought we would celebrate the contest that has been such fun for us here at FFF, the Dirty Talkin’ Edward Contest, hosted by the fabulous ladies MagTwi78 and Nicffwhisperer.

Please note that all DTE Contest banners are made by EvilNat and Blinkies are made by RoseArcadia (such talented ladies!)

The FicSix Favourites!

Quite a few weeks ago over at the FicSix’s “headquarters”, we decided to have a little fun between us and read all the entries of the contest to see if we ended up with all the same favourites.  Needless to say, a lot of fun and frivolity later, we are quite pleased that between us we ended up with a host of different favourites, some of them official winners, some not – but all winners in our eyes.  We really can’t go any further without saying that this contest had the highest quality entries, and we would like to congratulate all the authors that took part – well done!

*Reviews by AllyVera*

It is certainly no secret that Cared and I love a good contest, and when we first started reading the Dirty Talkin’ Edward Contest we lamented the fact that for some reason in every other contest we have avidly followed, our personal favourites have never been winners – we were starting to get a complex!!  LOL  However, we are delighted to say that our drought has broken!  Channel Five was one of my top three – and I am not ashamed to admit that I bounced up and down and clapped my hands when I saw the winners!!  I would now like to share with you my other two favourites, while not officially winners – they were certainly winners to me!!

Hard as a Rock ~ Bella wanted a breathtaking landscape design for her home. Stonemason Edward has a certain way of dealing with something that’s hard as a rock at the end of his workday. Submission for the Dirty Talkin’ Edward Contest.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Edward & Bella – Words: 8,043 – Reviews: 8 – Favs: 25 – Follows: 23 – Published: 08-30-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9643537

There was a myriad of reasons I loved this story. For one, I have a soft spot for Bellas who are writers (it just seems to fit somehow), and I also love Edwards who work with their hands… actually this Edward does all sorts of work with his hands, if you know what I mean *winks* – he also puts that dirty, dirty mouth to good use as well…Love it!

“For a moment, I was afraid Edward intended to leave and perhaps quit the job, and a lump formed in my throat. But, before I could become too upset, I realized he had another intention. Though his back was still turned from me, and his body mostly in the shadow, the smallest sound of metal on metal told me he was undoing his belt. I could see his shoulders tense and was sure that he had his cock in his hand.

“I’m going to fuck you so hard, Bella Swan, you won’t be able to leave your house for days. I’m going to pound you into your bed until you’re so weak that you won’t be able to get up. And tomorrow morning, I’m going to fuck you again. Then I’m going to just leave you naked and wet while I work out here, knowing that you’re close by, smelling you on my cock and in the breeze from your window.”

As you can clearly see, dear readers – he has a way with words to rival Bella’s!  I now have a burning desire to employ a stonemason. Just kidding! (sort of…)

Piano Man ~ For three years, Bella has lusted after one of her clients, the beautiful, introverted pianist, Edward Masen. When a corporate error forces them together for the night, will Edward be able to offer her what she’s really looking for in a man? A contest entry for the Dirty Talkin’ Edward contest.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Bella & Edward – Words: 6,874 – Reviews: 31 – Favs: 61 – Follows: 49 – Published: 08-29-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9642811

Talking of Edwards who work with their hands (although a concert pianist is a whole different ball game… err… you know what I mean!)… and holy crow, kitchmill had me at “soft, velvety voice”.  I loved the background build-up with this Edward and Bella – they are not strangers and Bella has been lusting after the gorgeous, but apparently shy and introverted Mr Masen for three years.

A hotel room booking bungle has these two in much closer proximity than they normally get and things get very interesting from there (oh, thank you to the Gods of reservations gone wrong!) One of the main things I loved so much about this Edward was how much he reminded me of canon Edward – that is until he releases that filthy mouth…

“I stare at his beautiful form as it is revealed to me. He lowers his jeans and boxers together, and his large, thick cock slaps up against his belly. I lick my lips in anticipation. “Like what you see?” he asks as he removes his clothes without taking his eyes off of me.

“Yes,” I respond strongly.

His eyes dart down between my parted and bent legs, where I can feel an abundance of arousal seeping from me. “So do I,” he says with a smirk.

He crawls back onto the bed next to me, dragging his hand over my leg as he goes. His fingers tease around my center, never touching me where I need him most. Lying on his side, he tells me firmly, “I want you sitting on my face while you suck my cock.” “

Is it me, or is it hot in here?? *fans self madly*  Just in case you missed it, he’s not that shy and introverted! I didn’t realise until I was putting the post together that the author of Piano Man, kitchmill, was the author of my favourite entry in the HEA Contest, Bass Instinct.  Thank you kitchmill for sharing these great stories with us!

Dexterous Digits by femme-mal

Dexterous Digits ~ She’d left Mr. Stuck-in-a-Rut a year ago; could she get what she wanted from guitarist Edward? One-shot submission to 2013 Dirty Talkin’ Edward Contest, and a continuation of one-shot Zipless.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Bella & Edward – Words: 3,212 – Reviews: 1 – Favs: 5 – Follows: 5 – Published: 08-29-13 – Status: Complete – id: 9642647

This story appealed to me for a very good reason: Edward. He was masterful without being domineering, dirty yet not derogatory, and, IMHO, a perfect combination of hot and delicious. Believe me, he didn’t just talk the talk, he walked the walk – the man delivered! *wink*

Edward may have been the dirty talker later in the story, but I imagine that Bella’s thoughts while watching his dexterous digits make sweet music were equally as dirty…

The vodka-rocks cocktail she’d nursed during the set was now little more than a twist of lemon rind and a misshapen ice cube, leaving her fingers cold and damp as she clutched the glass.

She could get another drink, but it would mean leaving her prized spot in the front of the dais where she could thoroughly enjoy the guitarist’s finger work. My, the things he can do with those dexterous digits, she thought to herself. A frisson of desire ran through her as she watched his fingers fly along the strings, the musculature of his arm flexing with each move up and down the fretboard, his tousled hair flopping on his forehead as it might during sex.

Her mouth went dry. She could really use a fresh drink to cool off, feeling rather overwarm all of a sudden.

It had been a long day, an exhausting week, but she felt uplifted listening to him and his bandmates perform. Each set was a perfect mix of covers and new material; she thought the best was the very last, a new song she had never heard the band play before. The way he glanced at her throughout it was like punctuation, emphasizing a point he was making to her personally.

He had looked her way frequently through the entire evening, his face lighting up as he did so. When the keyboard player took over for a handful of measures, he gestured to her to wait five minutes. She smiled broadly. The drink could wait.

Why do I imagine that Bella’s thoughts were in the gutter?  To be completely honest, because I know that mine were!  Please don’t think too badly of me – I genuinely couldn’t help it, as these delightful, dexterous digits below sprung unbidden to my mind:

Channel Five by Planetblue

Channel Five ~A private plane. A velvet voice. A seduction miles above ground. My entry for the Dirty Talkin’ Edward Contest.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Humor – Edward & Bella – Words: 14,288 – Reviews: 258 – Favs: 307 – Follows: 365 – Published: 08-29-13 – id: 9642726

There is no denying that this story is hot!  No!  That’s too simple – this story is sexy, sensual, erotic, and titillating. Actually, Edward is all of those things also…and more, as his baritone voice caresses Bella’s ear…

Channel five is live.

“I’m going to use the restroom, I’ll be right back.” I have no idea if I’m in trouble, or with whom for that matter, but I don’t think Rose should be alerted to the fact that I’m about to be on the wrong frequency for the second time.

I slide the “occupied” bolt into place, switch to channel five, and say, “Yes?”

“I’m just checking up on you. See how that head of yours is feeling.” The voice in my ear is smooth, masculine, and I try to match it to one of the pilots. The voice isn’t similar to the two men I met, as one could be my grandfather and the other obviously would prefer the chef over me, so I’m guessing this is Blond Guy.

“I’m fine, sir. Thank you for asking. Um…can I ask who this is?”

“You could.” That’s it.

Cheeky, patronizing bastard. “OK, who is this?”

“Just someone concerned for the welfare of the crew.”

I snort. “So there is a human being on here somewhere. I figured all kindness left the plane with the fun-sucking.” I cringe, cursing my lack of filter.

“Yes, the fun-sucking. I remember. Did you just snort?” He chuckles, and I like the sound.

“Well, I mean, everyone is very serious around here.” I pause, and hear him make a ‘hmm’ sound. “I do have to thank you for not ratting me out for my overly profane moment earlier. I know that language is frowned upon here.”

“Is it?”

I feel my brow lift in question. “Isn’t it?”

“Oh, I don’t know.” He begins, his voice low and warm like syrup in my ear. “A good ‘motherfucker’ now and then is never a bad thing.”

My stomach flips. Hearing the word ‘fuck’ from this unknown but deeply sensual voice is strangely erotic.

I’m torn. I want to reply. I really do. The snarky bitch inside me is clawing at my insides, and yet I also want to keep this job.

And 3..2..1..”Yes, well, a good ‘fuck’ is also never a bad thing.” Shit, I went there.

Cripes. I’m fired. I’m about to tell him I meant the word and not the action when it comes, smooth and slow in my ear.

“A good fuck is never a bad thing, indeed.”

My knees. They are wobbly.

That’s when he goes in for the kill. “But a great fuck is even better.”

Total collapse. I’m a useless heap on the floor in an airplane bathroom, and no one will ever find me cause I just died. Of embarrassment or lust, I’m not sure, but I answer automatically without thinking. “Fuck, yeah.”

I have to be honest and admit it’s Bella, and her reaction to Edward’s deliciously dirty words, that ensured this story became a favourite of mine.  The girl shows she has balls – metaphorically speaking – without sacrificing her femininity, and has a wicked sense of fun.  Just between us, inside my straight-laced exterior lies a vixen straining to escape, but I’m too chicken to let her loose.  Thank you Bella for allowing me to live vicariously through you – I couldn’t have done it better myself!

Put Planetblue on author alert, if you haven’t already, as there may be a little more to come with this pair. *Fingers crossed*

Hot Librarian Boy…. yum!

Good in the Stacks ~ Six-foot-two, disheveled hair, and screen-printed t-shirt likely wouldn’t be most people’s idea of a sexy librarian fantasy. Their loss. Entry for the Dirty Talkin’ Edward Twific Contest.

At the very last minute, when I declared my favourites to the FicSix just before the actual winners of the DTE contest were announced, I still had 14 stories to read. (Honestly, I don’t know when you lot have time to read all the amazing stories *side-eyes FicSix team*). But Good in the Stacks was my number one then, and it’s stayed my number one, even though I’ve caught up on all the good stuff. Here’s why:
  1. Hot Librarian Boy. I work with Hamster Girl (long story), Beardy Bloke and Dongle Man – I WISH for an HLB to ogle, as described, every day 😉
  2. Literature! This story is packed full of dirty quotes from all sorts of wonderful books and poems, many of which I’ve read and loved/loved to hate.
  3. The subtlety of the dirty talking is divine: “Wet. Wanton,” he breathes…“Slick, soft, succulent.” OH YES, HLB!
  4. The t-shirts. Definitely the t-shirts.
  5. Bella is awesome.
  6. The sheer pleasure to be had from every facet of the story. GitS is delectable, and deserves all the prizes it won.

“Everyone’s heard of the “sexy librarian fantasy,” but Hot Librarian Boy is likely not the image that springs to most people’s minds. Their loss. Granted, I don’t swing that way, but I can’t imagine that even a chick with a swimsuit-issue body hidden beneath a demure pencil skirt, blouse-plus-cardigan, black-framed reading glasses and six-inch stilettos has anything on Hot Librarian Boy. (That said, Hot Librarian Boy does wear black-framed reading glasses. Because of course he does. But only sometimes, which makes me wonder if he also wears contacts or if he only needs glasses for certain things or if I’ll ever have a social life and therefore not need to ogle some poor unsuspecting male librarian and hypothesize about his optometric needs.)”

Now this one, I hadn’t read before the end of the contest, but when I did, it pulled me in and called to me so much that I decided I had to write a little about it.

The main thing I love about this story is its exploration of a marriage. I’m endlessly fascinated by the topic, and the confident author’s voice piqued and satisfied my slight obsession. Bella is so powerful and demanding in the office, of course she needs to sink onto a commanding, sexy man at the end of the day. Lucky girl. I adored the blend of feminism and submission in this one-shot – how very appealing!

“”Bella Swan-Cullen speaking.”

“What are you wearing?” The low timbre of her husband’s voice seeped over her at the same time her assistant stepped into her office and took a seat at the chair in front of Bella’s desk, waiting as she’d been told a thousand times to do.

Bella cleared her throat, willing her blush to stay hidden under her blouse. Into the phone, she said, “I’m sorry, Mr. Smith, I’m working on that right now.” She tossed a glare at Jessica just to drive home her lie but had to look away when a chuckle rumbled over the phone line.

“Mr. Smith, huh? Kinky. Who are you gonna be? Mr. Smith’s assistant?”

She shouldn’t have picked up the phone. She should’ve waited until after Jessica had come and gone, should’ve waited until she could close her blinds, lock her door, and get lost in the rumbling, seductive voice of her husband.”

Hot cowboy inspiration for QuinnLark!

Hot cowboy inspiration for QuinnLark!

I’m beginning to realise I’ve got a cowboy fetish-or at least for cowboys called Edward- so, when Bella can’t resist having a one-night stand with a certain rancher with a twinkle in his gorgeous green eyes, I was cheering her on! But there’s more to him than she realises, and their story is far from over after her walk-of-shame!

“Well… I left you this morning, so I don’t know why you’re helping me now.” The guilt of walking away from him is only burdened further by the fact that he’s so damn kind to me.

The roguish smirk is back, and my stomach begins to coil tightly with need. “I’m a bronc rider and you didn’t think that I’d know that the prettiest female country singer in the world would be presentin’ the award?” he questions. I guess I hadn’t thought of that.

He stalks toward me like an angry bull until my back hits the brick wall. Edward’s hands are on either side of my face. When he brings his mouth close to my own, his words whisper against my skin. “But, since you reminded me of how mean it was to make me wake up on my own, I guess I’ll have to tell you what I had planned for you this morning.”

My eyes snap to his deep green ones. “L-like what?” I can’t stop myself from asking. Because, I know that deep down, I’m desperate for the dirty words that will turn me into a wet mess.

He has charm to go with those dirty words-and deeds! Ruined had a little of everything, humour, drama and a touch of angst. Even though this was a one-shot, it felt very satisfying (and not just for Edward and Bella!), it even had the epilogue. QuinnLark decided to split it into several chapters that will post over a few days – Go on ladies, take Edward for a ride!

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance – Chapters: 1 – Words: 5,998 – Reviews: 124 – Published: 7-13-13 – Bella & Edward – Complete

Edward is the ultimate pal, reassuring Bella time and again after every breakup. This time it’s different though, emboldened by tequila he decides to show her how well he knows her, how much he cares – and exactly what he can do to make her happy 😉

This time, my giggle is loud and clear. “Knowing how women work? Okay, Cullen, now I know you’re drunk.”

His resulting smile is crooked, and so is the way my heart thumps in my chest.

“I’m just saying, a little familiarity about what a girl wants is needed,” he says, shrugging.

“So what do women want?” I ask sarcastically.

“To feel wanted. They want to feel beautiful and worshipped and like they’re the most important and most interesting thing in any room. They want to feel sexy, empowered. They want to feel safe to explore and be unrestrained.”

My mouth is dry, and I swallow in an attempt to wet it. I reach for the bottle of booze, despite the way my pulse is echoing through my skull, and let it coat my tongue.”

I adored this Edward, his affection showed through all the dirty whispers, it was heartwarming and felt really intimate. He proves he really does know what Bella wants. *sigh*

Who needs a Dirty Martini when there is a Dirty Tequilaward on the menu!

Crash Zone

*Made by Jenny Kate*

Crash Zone by JiffyKate

Crash Zone ~ The Crash Zone is a buffer zone outside the perimeter of the track. It’s purpose is to insure the safety of the fans from skaters falling out of bounds. Is it enough to keep hearts from being broken?

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Humor – Chapters: 14 – Words: 46,622 – Reviews: 629 – Updated: 8-6-13 – Published: 3-27-13 – Bella & Edward

Hi all! It’s been a long time since I’ve been on this side of the blog. *waves ecstatically* But ain’t no Britboys gonna keep me away from fanfiction! So let’s get to it, shall we?!

I recently read this almost complete WIP, Crash Zone by JiffyKate and loved every minute of it. All that’s missing is the epilogue, which I heard should be posted very soon, and a futuretake. These two ladies bring you a fun, light hearted story full of the snark that one can expect when you’re on the Roller Derby rink. Edward Cullen is the nerdy guy who comes to watch every bout, infatuated with Cherry, the bad ass jammer for the Seattle Sex Packets.  Too bad she doesn’t even know he exists. Watch and see what happens when these two worlds collide. Oh, and you know the saying, “Never judge a book by its cover”? Yeah, that applies here, in oh so many ways.

Chapter 1

That’s right. My Cherry is a roller derby girl.

OK, so she’s not really mine, but I want her to be. I’ve actually never even talked to her. I just sit in the same front-row seat every Friday night and watch her skate her team to victory, like the chicken-shit stalker I am.

I’m so pathetic.

I wish I had the nerve to talk to her, but I can’t. There’s no way Cherry would ever be interested in me. I’m a geek. I have the glasses and various degrees and certificates to prove it. She is way too cool for me, so I must admire her from afar.

And, admire her, I do.

Starting from the top, I watch her quickly braid her pigtails before she puts her helmet on. Her eyes are surrounded by makeup that is dark and smudged, and the cherry-red gloss she swipes onto her lips makes them look perfectly plump. Especially her bottom lip. I dream of sucking that lip into my mouth quite often.

Trying to discreetly adjust myself while the house lights are still on proves to be difficult, so I cross my legs and think about the national debt in order to calm myself down.

Cherry’s V-neck shirt is tight in all the right places, pushing her tits up nice and high for me to gaze at, while her shorts ride up just high enough for the bottom of her ass cheeks to peek out. When she turns around, I see that her full Derby name is stitched across her back. “Cherry Bomb.” So fucking hot. Completing her uniform are white knee-high socks with hot pink stripes wrapped around the tops, and I am now discreetly adjusting my crotch again.

Crash Zone is a fast and fun read that will be sure to make you smile, swoon and maybe even swear like a Derby Girl. Jiff Simpson and Jenny Kate do an amazing job collaborating, they write as if they are one person.  Maybe they are? Hehe. But either way you are sure to enjoy it and learn some Derby terms along the way!

The Beauty Within by afragilelittlehuman

The Beauty Within ~ Going to his brother Jasper’s company Christmas party, Edward hopes to spend time with the employee he’s admired from afar for months. Will his blindness keep her away, or will she find it allows him to see her in another way? AH/AU/OOC – ExB – Rated M

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance – Edward & Bella – Chapters: 5 – Words: 15,523 – Reviews: 371 – Favs: 942 – Follows: 556 – Updated: 12-25-10 – Published: 12-23-09 – Status: Complete – id: 5605891

The Beauty Within is a series of related one-shots, which began when the author was sent a picture (the one in the middle of the banner) and was challenged to write a story featuring a blind Edward. For me, it’s a gorgeous ficlit with a sweet and satisfying epilogue.

Edward works as a consultant to software companies, helping to test their applications for suitability for the blind. His brother Jasper insists Edward attends his company’s Christmas party as they occasionally engage him and his expertise.  For a refreshing change, Edward is the one who doesn’t see himself clearly…and that is nothing to do with the condition of his beautiful emerald green eyes.  He doesn’t think he has any hope with Bella, an employee at Jasper’s company and the object of his affection; he is so wrong though, as this lovely Bella sees him for the amazing man he is…on the inside.  She is intelligent and perceptive enough to know she needs to make the first move, and, she is brave enough to do it…

The dessert plates were cleared, and we sat in silence as the band began to play a slow song. Her hand was on my arm again, and I could hear her chair creak as she leaned toward me. “Edward, would you dance with me?”

Me, dancing? No, I knew that was a bad idea. “Thanks for asking Bella, but I’m not really a dancer. Maybe one of the other guys…”

“I don’t want to dance with any of the other guys.” Her voice was suddenly shy and meek. “I want to dance with you.”

Summoning all the courage I could muster and swallowing hard, I moved my chair away from the table and stood, extending my hand toward her. “Lead the way.”

Bella took my hand, and I tugged it slightly to help her up out of her seat. I expected her to lead me by my hand or maybe even place my hand on her shoulder as she’d probably seen Jasper do a time or two. What I didn’t expect was what she did.

She pulled my arm around her and placed my hand on her waist.

“Is this okay?” She didn’t even try to hide teasing tone of her voice.

I nodded a little too enthusiastically. “Y-yes, this is fine.”

A tiny gasp and the tinkle of a charm bracelet let me know that Alice and probably Jasper were watching the entire exchange. My face was blazing in embarrassment, and I knew I’d never hear the end of it.

Usually, if someone wanted to guide me, they would offer their elbow. With my parents, Jasper, and Alice, I preferred just a light touch on their shoulder. It was awkward trying to navigate the floor with only my hand at Bella’s waist. Like this, however, I could feel the beginning of the swell of her hip with my pinky, and I wasn’t about to give that up.

Finally, Bella stopped, and, as she turned to face me, my hand brushed around her waist until it rested at the opposite side. I brought my free hand up to the small of her back and pulled her to me, her arms coming up to encircle my neck. I kept a respectable distance as we gently swayed, but I still felt her warm breath on my neck as she whispered to me.

“Can I tell you a secret?” Her muscles were tense underneath my fingers.

My hand, having a mind of its own, rubbed small, soothing circles on her back. “Sure, Bella, you can tell me anything.”

“I asked Alice to seat me next to you.” Judging from the absence of warmth, she was holding her breath.

“Really?” No, my voice didn’t break like a pre-pubescent undergoing a voice change, not at all.

Her arms tightened around my neck, and she pressed herself against me. The soft curves of her body molded to me, and I tried to calm my breathing as my hand moved from her waist to brush up and down her side. I felt the heat of her released breath, and the tiniest whimper escaped her lips. Unable to stop myself, I leaned down and found her cheek with the tip of my nose, brushing it across and inhaling her tart scent. She shivered in response.

The beautiful, slow song ended and a cacophony of dance music started. We didn’t move a muscle.

“Edward?” Bella asked, her voice breathy.

“Yes?” I replied, almost choking.

“Would you like to go to the museum garden with me? Get away from all this noise?”

My heart, which had been pounding previously, completely stopped.

While there is no denying Edward being blind brings its own problems, both to his life, and in how to portray it, afragilelittlehuman doesn’t allow any of that to overshadow the relationship between Edward and Bella.  The romance is sweet and heartwarming – just like this story and it’s own beauty within.

Do you like to get in on the ground floor with fabulous fics?  If so, these next two tales are just for you. Please join me in a quick look at why I couldn’t resist these beauties.

Another Love by SparklyMeg

Another Love ~ “Edward had it all… until he didn’t.” My entry for the 2013 TLS Angst Contest. Winner of Best HEA. Now expanding into a multichapter fic.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Angst/Romance – Edward – Chapters: 4 – Words: 13,997 – Reviews: 43 – Favs: 37 – Follows: 87 – Published: 08-22-13 – id: 9619625

I discovered Another Love as an entry in TLS Angst Contest, and found it to be beautifully written, bittersweet, raw, intense, and most of all…memorable.  Naturally, I was delighted when SparklyMeg responded to my review and said she plans to extend this touching story, and I just had to tell you about it.

Edward, with his knight in shining armour routine as he rescues the damsel in distress, was pretty memorable also…

I wander back into the living room, beer in hand, and ponder how I can get people to leave. It’s almost midnight, and I have to be up really early.

Okay, yeah. I definitely am a party pooper.

I’m almost knocked off my feet when a hard body stumbles into me. I steady myself to find Emmett McCarty, high, drunk, or both, wrapping his arms around me.

“Cullen! You made it man!”

Why do people keep saying that to me? Am I that obvious?

Emmett and I do the loose, side, male hug thing and he starts prattling on about his football game last week. I’m not really paying any attention though, because I’m distracted by a commotion on the other side of the room.

That smarmy fucker, James, from my Ethics in Education class, has some poor girl pressed against the window frame, his hands wandering down the sides of her body. She looks uncomfortable, her head moving from side to side. I realize he’s trying to kiss her and she’s resisting.

I’m over there before I even realize I have moved, my hand firm on his shoulder, pulling him away.

“Hey man, I don’t think she’s interested.”

James stumbles, and looks up at me. He’s glassy eyed, intoxicated, and his features twist into an expression of sheer confusion. Recognition dawns on his face, and he straightens up.

“She with you, man?”

“Yeah, she is, so back off.”

Wait, what?

The words tumble out of my mouth before I realize what I’m saying. In my peripheral vision I can see the girls eyes widening, and I hear a breath catch in her throat.

James mumbles something incoherent and stumbles away.

I turn back; only to be faced with one of the most beautiful girls I have ever laid eyes on.

Guess this party won’t be so bad after all.

I’ll be honest and warn you now, your heart may break when Edward’s does, but go ahead, put on your big girl’s knickers and read it regardless – it’s worth it! Remember, it won the best HEA award for a reason.

Small Bump by Thimbles

Banner by Frozen Soldier

*Made by Frozen Soldier*

Small Bump ~ Pregnancy is an entirely natural process, one I’d studied and seen in all its stages. Yet in that moment, knowing that Bella was carrying our child, a little person somehow knit together from her and me, and the love we shared, it seemed a strange miracle—she seemed a strange miracle. Life, loss, love, and hope. (Angst rating applies to Ch. 1 only.)

Twilight – Rated: M – English – Romance/Angst – Chapters: 2 – Words: 8,614 – Reviews: 176 – Updated: 8-27-13 – Published: 8-19-13 – Edward & Bella

The talented and very sweet Thimbles has done it again!  She has begun posting a new story and, as usual, managed to have me completely captivated by her characters and immersed in her story with just one chapter.  Let me tell you, my big girl’s knickers are getting quite the work-out these days as the first chapter contains Angst – yes, I used that capital A on purpose.  Thankfully, Thimbles promises the angst is restricted to the first chapter, which I’m very happy to hear, as I’m already emotionally involved with Edward and Bella, and their beautiful relationship. I guarantee once you read this, you will be too…

Dawn is sneaking in through the crack between the curtains, painting a strip of red-gold across the ceiling and down the wall, and bouncing sparks of light off Bella’s tangled hair.

I squirm, trying to get closer than close, feeling like my nerve endings have been replaced with magnets, straining for Bella.

And then, with my hand flat against her belly, my nose buried in her hair, and my ankles tangled with hers, a new understanding settles into me with the quietness of dawn.

My fiancée is pregnant.

Her skin is softer. Her hair shinier. And her smell … fuck, she smells amazing. It’s not that she smells different, not exactly. It’s her, just … more potent or something. I don’t even know if I can explain it, but it drives me wild.

And I’m so confident I’m right, I’m already imagining her belly growing round and her breasts getting fuller. I’m starting to imagine ultrasounds and doctor’s visits and resting my hand over her belly to feel the kicks and punches delivered by tiny feet and fists.

And even as joy spreads through me, it’s chased by sorrow and fear.

As much as I want to shake her awake and tell her my suspicion, as much as I want to ask her when her period is due and to offer to run down to the pharmacy to grab a pregnancy test, I won’t.

I can’t.

I can’t bring myself to do that to her, to plant even the tiniest seed of hope.

Because this wouldn’t be the first time. We’ve been here before. The same signs, the same subtle changes. I couldn’t keep my hands off her then, either.

Clearly the opening chapter deals with miscarriage, sensitively written, and shown in Edward’s perspective. But, at two chapters in, there is joy to be found in their strong connection, their protectiveness of each other, and in how real and honest their story feels as they deal with life, loss, love, and hope.  I’m sticking with this tale until it reaches full-term – are you with me?

Open Range – A Short Story by pattyrose

Open Range ~ In the mid 1800’s, out on the western range is where a real man makes his livelihood. And if he’s mighty lucky, it’s where he makes his destiny as well. A six chapter story with daily updates. E & B.

Twilight, M, English, Romance, chapters: 5, words: 4k+, favs: 150, follows: 278, updated: 8/27/13 published: 8/26/13, Bella Edward

A/N: Hey all! This is what happens when FallingSnow Winter over on fb posts a manip of Edward as a cowboy, i.e., Cowboyward, on my fb page. This was the only way I could get him out of my head and move on with life. 🙂

So, I saw the manip that was posted in PattyRose’s Facebook group that she referred to in her Author’s Note…and while I’m not a big fan of manips, there’s just something about a cowboy and it’s a very pretty picture, iykwim! The next thing we all know, PattyRose’s imagination is all fired up and she posting a teaser. Oh yessssss! Within the blink of an eye we’re reading Cowboyward and melting. The short story will be posted within the week, with the epi posting tomorrow.

Open Range sees Edward and his brothers -you know their names- on a cattle drive. In punishing, unrelenting heat they’re pushed to their limits and aching. When a cowhand from a local ranch rides over to help them. Of course, the cowhand surprises our guy!

“When this cattle girl finally removes her hat and shakes her head out, long, chocolate hair comes loose and slaps itself against a sun-kissed face that should be on an angel, not a cowhand. I blink and stare like a total jack-ass because the sun has decided to shine every single one of its rays over her, and so I must look.

I ain’t no namby-pamby, ‘case that’s what y’all are thinkin’. I have never known myself to be in love. The three, wonderful, generous women who let me poke around inside them – Tanya, Kate and Rina – were not objects of my undying affection, though I deeply appreciated the favor that they were bestowing on me. I am a practical man of twenty-four years on this here Earth, and while I know that one day I may have to settle down and take a wife, I am aware that the life I lead is not ideal for most married folks. Plenty a grass widow come about from my way of life: women who can’t deal with a husband away for months at a time, who rightfully wonder what that husband does on his time away: who’s warmin’ his body and keepin’ his pecker workin’ and such. My Ma and Pa have made it work but that right there is the exception not the rule for conjugal bliss. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that my wife will come second in my life and will either deal with it – or leave.

Point is, I don’t spend my nights dreamin’ of my angel, of the one woman meant for me.

But hell if this woman before me don’t look like she just rode her horse down from the kingdom of heaven and donned a brown wide-rimmed hat, boots and canvas pants for the trip.”

Oh yes, she’s definitely caught his attention -and the attention of his pecker! This Bella is no wallflower or demure lady. No Siree…she knows what she wants, and it sure looks like she set her sights on Edward – and his aforementioned pecker!

PattyRose really knows how to write an engaging yarn and this one is great fun, as always, written impeccably and with panache. I defy you not to want to wash Cowboyward’s back…*that may be a spoiler!

My Love, My Sin by sulliedsoles

*made by sulliedsoles*

*made by sulliedsoles*

My Love, My Sin want it all. I need, and I take, and I abuse. But I love my Love, and I love my Sin. I can’t let either one go.

Twilight, M, English, Romance & Angst, chapters: 6, words: 2k+, favs: 16, follows: 39, updated: 8/26/13 published: 8/19/13, Bella

If cheating fics aren’t for you…look away now! There. You’ve had your warning, but believe me, you’re missing out. 😉

This is Bella, torn and wanting it all. Torn between the nice guy who showers her in affection and the bad guy, who makes her feel crazy, wild and free.

She wants to be the good girl, cherished and cared for by her Love. Or is that smothered? He’s the smooth, polished and über respectable type you take home to meet mother, he’s kind and thoughtful. Or is that controlling and manipulative? He’s predictable and safe. Or is that boring? Hmmmm. She should be happy; he should be enough.

“We sit, me first, then him, my gentleman, sweet-whispering, tender-touching, love-showering gentleman. He orders for us both and leans forward to talk. He is the epitome of grace and kindness, and he is all kinds of right.

“You look beautiful tonight, Sweetheart,” he says, blue eyes shining.”

But then she has her Sin…unapologetic, all kings of wrong – tempting, naughty, indulgent and passionate.

“I slap his hand away and push him over until he’s stretched out on his back. I unfasten pink clasps and strip off pink lace, tossing them onto the nightstand. He’s provoked me enough and I’m tired of his accusations when neither of us has the right to claim anything. I straddle his hips and drag my fingernails, just a little too hard, down his chest and over his ribs. He doesn’t flinch like Love does. His lips curl and he knows he’s got me back.

Pink stripes are showing on his skin when I reach for black elastic but he catches my wrist, flips me over, and hovers. I don’t squeal or fight; I wrap him up and press my calves to the backs of his thighs, lock my hands behind his neck, and pull him down to me.

When we kiss, it’s fire. It destroys. It makes me alive.”

My Love, My Sin is written beautifully, in Drabble-like chapters by new-to-me author, sulliedsoles. Her writing is poetic and holds a dream like, mesmerising quality. That doesn’t detract from the story though, we’re drawn into Bella’s haze of desire, both for her Love and her Sin. Two strong pulls inside her, fighting with who she is and who she thinks she should be.

Sulliedsoles reveals quite quickly who is who; the nicknames are not used to distraction, just enough to remind us of how Bella sees the men in her life; the roles they play for her.

It’s categorised as angst, so I’m guessing there’s a bumpy ride ahead. Sulliedsoles has told me she’s updating daily, once on weekends, so she’s feeding my addiction beautifully. I’ve got a feeling this is going to hurt, but the writing is worth the pain!

My question for you is…would you choose safe Love…or lose yourself in Sin?

One Day by RueforRegret

One Day ~ Over a quarter of a century separates single-mother Bella Swan from her hormone-riddled adolescence. Watching her teenaged daughter navigate her way through various rites of passage, Bella can’t help falling prey to nostalgia. “One Day” brims with steamy reminiscences of first love and traces one woman’s mid-life attempt to reclaim it. ExB, AH, mild angst, M-Rated 18 & over.

I think One Day has something for everyone, but for those hOOrs – like me – on the better side of 40, this story is very special and lovely.
Bella has divorced Mike Newton and is raising Carlie – an utterly believable modern teenage girl – in Toronto, Canada. We begin the story with Carlie leaving for the ‘Ex’, Canada’s national exhibition, with friends. This triggers a raft of memories from Bella’s own briefly misspent youth, and it’s the poignancy of these memories that had me sold from the beginning.
This excerpt is from chapter 2, when young, desperate-to-be-cool Bella encounters her glorious Edward for the very first time:

“Oh, so you’re from Toronto?”

Alice was on an information gathering roll. I, on the other hand, had completely forgotten how to function.

“Yeah. I go to Jarvis Collegiate. How about you guys?”

He looked first at Alice, and then at me. And that’s where his eyes stayed. Gorgeous green eyes, fixed on my face, willing me to speak.

“We go to Humberside Collegiate,” I said, proud of myself for stringing together five words that made sense.

“Oooh, West-End girls.”

As he spoke, his mouth twisted into a strange smile. I had no idea what his comment meant. All I could think about was the song by the Pet Shop Boys, the lyrics unfolding in my brain as I stood there mutely. Again, Alice came to the rescue.

“I’m Alice, by the way. This is Bella.”

She bobbed her head at me, puffing rabidly on her cigarette. I hadn’t ventured another drag, afraid to have a second hacking attack. I simply tapped the ashes off the end every once in a while, hoping he wouldn’t notice that I was wasting a perfectly good cigarette—or a perfectly bad one, depending on how you looked at it.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Edward.”

Edward. Such a formal name. Dorky even. I was pretty sure if there was a person in the world who least suited his name, it was him. He took three more long drags on his cigarette and then dropped it and squashed the butt with his sneaker.

“Well, I should get back to work. The ride’s about over.”

He took a packet of Big Red chewing gum out of his back pocket and held it out to us. Alice declined, but I took a piece, even though I’ve never liked cinnamon chewing gum. I watched Edward fold his piece of gum in half against his tongue and then lick his lips as he started to chew. Up until that point in my life, I’d never have described myself as having an oral fixation. I’d never been particularly interested in being a stick of gum, either. Edward quickly altered my career aspirations. Entirely. I wanted nothing more than to be folded in half against his tongue like that.

“Hey, if you’re around again before Labour Day, you should swing by and say hi,” he said.

“Sure. For sure,” Alice said.

I mumbled some sort of agreement as I watched him, by which I mean gaped at his ass, as he ascended the stairs. He turned and gave us another wave and then he headed back to his spot by the railing to wait for the next group of riders to settle in. I slipped the stick of gum into my front pocket and reached for Alice’s arm, spiriting her away as quickly as I could and dropping my cigarette as we walked, not even bothering to squash the butt-end. We didn’t stop walking until we got to the bumper cars, four rides away, where we linked hands and screamed into each other’s faces.

I cannot adequately explain this behaviour, other than to say…we were fifteen.

Oh my darlings, that could have been me. I lived on the opposite side of the world at fifteen (in Johannesburg), but RueforRegret is describing my life. And with what finesse! “Edward quickly altered my career aspirations. Entirely. I wanted nothing more than to be folded in half against his tongue like that.”– who doesn’t feel the same way, having spent the week drooling over Dior Homme gifs?

Their sweet, sexy romance is sadly a little before its time. Things go wrong, life turns out very differently, and we find ourselves back in the now wondering what will happen to bring the pair together. Because it’s Edward and Bella guys, of course they get back together!

We are on chapter 22 and there is plenty of story still to be told. Rue doesn’t have a particular posting schedule, but the way she writes is so unique and entertaining you are unlikely to forget where you’ve been in-between updates. There is angst, but it’s sad and relatable rather than nail-biting and anxious, so hold off until it’s complete if you must; but don’t forget to bookmark One Day, because I can pretty much guarantee you will enjoy this story EVERY day.

If He Would Have Been Faithful by beegurl13 *Complete*

If He Would Have Been Faithful ~ Sometimes life catches us off guard. It breaks our hearts, makes us question ourselves, urges to us be wild, pushes us to be brave, brings us joy we never imagined we could find. This is the story of a girl who lived a life like that. Of what she never even knew she was missing, until she found it. FAGEtastic Four entry written for WoahNow. E&B, AH, M.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Drama/Romance – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 34 – Words: 54,346 – Reviews: 2,918 – Favs: 769 – Follows: 562 – Updated: 07-18-12 – Published: 06-11-12 – Status: Complete – id: 8206020

I felt an instant connection to Bella (or Isabella as we know her at first) and maybe she brought out my maternal side, as I just ached for her.  In the first few chapters of If He Would Have Been Faithful, Isabella’s world turns upside down – she loses so much – her husband, her best friend in the whole world, her confidence and her dignity.

But never fear, dear readers – Isabella deals with her pain in a very mature way (considering she is only 21) and gives herself a new start – and this is where her journey really begins…

From chapter 12 – her first sight of him (yeah, you know who I am talking about…)

“Rosalie turned off toward the kitchen, and I went back to the counter. Wiping it off and trying to run out the last few minutes of my shift, I looked up when I heard the bells over the door chime.

A man and woman entered, and my heart stopped.

I hadn’t had feelings for any man since I met Jasper. Not once had I looked at a man and felt lust flow through me. Not once had I looked at a man and wanted to know what his lips felt like. Not once had I looked at a man and craved the touch of his fingers on my skin.

But this man…I wanted all of those things. And then some.

The fact that his hand was wrapped around the woman’s hand was upsetting to me, and I quickly looked away from them.

“Who are you?” he asked me.

Yep, he would render me speechless too – so don’t feel bad, Bella!  This is pretty much where Bella’s life starts turning around.  At first, Edward doesn’t like or trust Bella, but as we all know, sometimes the most “challenging” Edwards turn out to be the very best and the lovely beegurl13 has created a gorgeous specimen for us.  And he surfs!

This story is all about how sometimes in our lives the things that seem like the end of the world sometimes are just the catalyst for us discovering a whole new world – one that is bigger, brighter and everything a girl could dream of!

Broken Arrow by TwistingTwilight *Complete*

Broken Arrow ~ Bella and Edward have always loved each other. Married and happy, nothing could destroy them. But a tragedy tore them apart, two years later at the ER, Edward gets called to treat a critical patient, and as the blankets are pulled off her body, their world’s collide again. They have never stopped loving each other, and now they’ve found each other again, can they save their love?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Hurt/Comfort – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 14 – Words: 27,322 – Reviews: 811 – Favs: 665 – Follows: 592 – Updated: 12-28-12 – Published: 11-16-12 – Status: Complete – id: 8708392

Call me a masochist, but I love a good heart-wrencher, and I certainly got that and more with Broken Arrow by the wonderful TwistingTwilight.

This story shows us that no matter how much our E x B can love each other, sometimes when tragedy strikes, even the most powerful of loves are tested and left in tatters.

Edward is an ER Doctor and one night a patient is brought in who has been in a car accident – Edward, who has been feeling off all night, soon realises it is his much-loved, but estranged wife, Bella.  As he steps aside to let other doctors save the love of his life, you feel his pain and anguish..

“But I hadn’t lost Bella, she’d just left. She’d left me.

But she was still alive. That’s what I had to tell myself over and over again to get the tears to stop back then.

But she was dying now.

Would I lose her?

I moved my body to my office chair, setting my head down on the desk as I let the heartbreak and tears overcome me.

I had nothing else to do but mourn her.

It must have been hours later, because the dark night Bella had arrived in, had now turned into a new dawn.

But with the new dawn, came no hope at all.

I didn’t have any hope for her survival, something told me she was meant to come back into my life, simply for me to say a proper goodbye.

But suddenly, I heard my office door open.

I knew it was Mary.

My head snapped up, and I didn’t care that she would see my bloodshot eyes, or my tear stained face.

Her eyes were sympathetic, and that was when I knew…”

Things seem pretty bleak at this point in time, but there are glimmers of sunshine that increase as the story goes along.  The one thing you are never in doubt of, though, is the absolute love these two share.

This story is heart-breaking and hopeful all at once, but, at the end of the day, I believe it is really a story about hope and the assurance that love will eventually conquer all.  PS:  You might need some tissues, but not for too long!! ~ AV

Set in Stone by psyche001 *complete*

Set in Stone – From within the night’s secret shadows,a beautiful winged creature falls for a human girl. She is forbidden fruit in his world but still,he crosses the line to save her life. What happens when their worlds collide & she discovers his horrible fate? AU/M/BXE

Rated: Fiction M – English – Hurt/Comfort/Angst – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 22 – Words: 195,648 – Reviews: 1,367 – Favs: 1,211 – Follows: 425 – Updated: 08-22-10 – Published: 12-09-09 – Status: Complete – id: 5569026

I read a lot of fanfiction.  Let me rephrase that, I read A LOT of fanfiction and there have been many times lately when I’ve started a story and thought, ‘I’ve read this plot before.’   Set in Stone by psyche001 is most definitely not one of those stories.  Sure the usual cast of characters is present and yes they have most of the same characteristics we’ve grown to love and expect.  However the author has twisted the normal and breathed new life into each character.  Plus, there are gargoyles.

Yep, you read that correctly.  Gargoyles.   I’ve never given much thought to those seemingly unnecessary and ugly creatures that lurk on the corners of old, ostentatious buildings.  But after reading this wonderfully told story, I have a new found respect for those ‘Guardians of the Night’.

Without giving too much away, Edward is a supernatural and he falls for human Bella.  Sounds familiar right?   Wrong.   The main story isn’t that they fall for each other; it’s the myth and history surrounding the gargoyle legion as well as Edward’s history that draws you in and keeps you up well past your bedtime turning the pages of this magical tale.

Edward’s past is sad and it tortures him throughout the story.  What happened to him is the crux of how he became one of the ‘Legion’ 200 years before meeting Bella, and how he deals with the memories is a huge part of what motivates him to go against the family he’s been a part of since he became a winged creature of the night.

Bella lived through a tragic accident and that’s what links her to Edward. I won’t spoil the story by revealing how, but know that the link is so strong that Edward breaks the rules of his order and not only puts his life on the line but those of his coven as well to protect her.

Once the two meet, it’s readily apparent that they belong together and the rules in place to keep them apart are inconsequential to the pair. Though, for Edward, ignoring those rules bring serious consequences.   Consequences that force the two to flee across the world in order to escape them.

psyce001 writes with descriptive beauty that draws you in and transports you into the story.  It’s easily forgotten that you’re reading a work from a novice and not a polished and published author.  Here’s an example:

“He was just one step away from me at that point, towering over me in what would have otherwise been a menacing gesture. But I believed him when he said he wouldn’t hurt me. He looked dangerous, tall and brooding with the most grim of expressions on his devastatingly sexy face. His features were sharp though smooth and his thick eyebrows gave him a devious look. Still he was gentle and his tone was cautious. I was drawn to him despite the red flags that blared in my head. I had known ever since the very first time our eyes met that he was someone to stay away from, and perhaps, that was the basis of my attraction. That, and the unfathomable feeling that I was supposed to know him somehow. Maybe it was because he seemed more familiar with me than I was with him. Maybe I did know him after all, but forgot. Except, as I stared at him I knew that he was not someone forgettable, not in the least.”

This story has everything.  Magic, myth, angels, angst, deep friendships, loyalty, an adorable dog named Blade and, oh, have I mentioned the lemons?  They’re tangy, sweet and so very satisfying.

Here’s a small taste:

“That’s incredible,” she gasped. “Your fingers are so….hard!”

I smiled deviously and resumed my thrusting in and out of her. The faster I went the louder she screamed and she started pushing her hips down toward my hand. I controlled my forcefulness, only giving her as much as I thought she could take because I didn’t want to stab her insides and hurt her in the process. Isabella however, had other plans for me.

“Harder Edward! Harder!” She cried out.

I sought out her tongue and pulled it into my mouth as I went fractionally harder and faster inside her cavity. Again, she found it hard to kiss in between her screaming. So I kissed the corners of her mouth and buried my face in her neck as she writhed underneath me.

“Gah! Ed…ah! Uh…yah!”

I felt the curvature of the passage at the top where it opened into her womb and I plunged in deeper toward it with fast fingers. I figured that since she wanted speed, I could give it to her and my kind of speed was unlike any other she knew. I went so fast that all groaning stopped. She clenched her teeth and squeezed her eyes shut. The only sounds that came out of her mouth were the hissing sounds of air being sucked in through her teeth. Five or six thrusts per second had her in convulsions and every time I crashed into her womb I made sure to graze against the wall on the opening.

When I felt her tighten around my fingers and her eyes flew open, I bent my fingers against the curve of her wall and pulled down on the inside. The scream that erupted from her throat made my erection budge. When she started to tremble I lowered my face to her chest with my fingers still pressing hard on her insides and took her breast in my mouth. Sucking on her nipple intensified the pleasure judging from her second scream and a few seconds later she released and fell back onto the bed.

“Edward!” She laughed. “Oh my goodness! I’ve never…ever felt anything like that before! And I’ve been fingered a lot!”

“Spare me the details please,” I crooned against her chest, still nibbling on her perky parts.

“Sweet heavens, if your fingers feel like that…..I can’t imagine what….uuhhhhh….”

I started rubbing the head of my erection against her. Her eyes rolled back into the back of her head and she pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, depriving me of the privilege. I covered her mouth with mine then and sucked her lip from under her teeth, taking it between mine instead. She sucked on my top lip and scraped her nails against my scalp while rocking her hips up and down against me.

“I have to make a wall inside of you,” I said into her mouth.

Hehehe, you’ll have to read the story to understand exactly what that means.

Do yourself a favor and read Set in Stone.  And make sure you have plenty of time to read the original and the sequel, In Darkness and Light.  Because once you start, you won’t be able to walk away.

Tatted Hips and Wicked Lips by Hoodfabulous

*Made by Evilnat*

*Made by Evilnat*

Tatted Hips and Wicked Lips – Bella Swan can’t stand Edward Cullen. She hates his tattoos, his piercings, and his stupid band. But mostly she hates how badly she wants him. He hates her too…or so she thinks. Will one iPhone fail change everything?

Rated: Fiction M – English – Humor/Drama – Bella & Edward – Words: 7,630 – Reviews: 153 – Favs: 364 – Follows: 639 – Published: 05-22-13 – id: 9316776

Come closer while I tell you about this little gem of a story from the amazingly talented Hoodfabulous. It was written as an entry for the Twi-Fic Text Message LOL Contest, and believe me, laugh out loud is exactly what this fic made me do.

Tatted Hips and Wicked Lips won five awards including Public Vote 1st Place (I can see why), Best Edward (that works for me), and Hottest Text Fail (hell yeah). IMHO, this fic deserves a Best Original Character award for the very entertaining Cooch. Mostly for her single-minded determination, and her amusing outlook on life, but also for her perfect taste in men. By men, I mean one man in particular…the hot, cocky, tatted and pierced Mr. Edward Cullen. She is putty in his hands…err…totally under his thumb (she wishes)…err…I mean completely under his spell, and who can blame her? Actually, Bella can…

The garage door makes a popping sound as it slowly rolls up. I’m silently cursing Cooch, who’s already throbbing in my panties at the sight of Edward’s ratty old chucks. The next thing to come into view are his tight black pants, emphasizing the strain of his hard muscles against the soft, worn fabric. I can see the contours of his impressive cock right through those jeans, and holy crap, he’s not wearing a shirt. The deep V of his abdomen is next to appear as the door lifts.

There’s a thin line of bronze-colored hair trailing from his navel down to the Holy Land. A tattoo of a microphone peeks out from his waistband, near his groin, creeping up to the edge of his left hip. A tattoo of a gun peeks out from the other side, crawling over his right one.

The pecs on his cut chest are sweaty from dancing and thrusting his guitar in the air. I know this because I secretly watch him from time to time through the window in the kitchen door that leads to the garage.

Colorful tattoos of lyrics and quotes dance along his arms. The door is completely lifted, and all thoughts of cursing him for playing too loud flee cowardly from my mind as I stare at the metal in his face.

Mother freaking viper bites.

“Traitor,” I whisper, glancing down at the seam of my jean shorts where Cooch hangs her metaphorical head in shame.

See what I mean?

I’m not ashamed to admit that I did a little happy dance upon reaching the end of the one-shot and seeing this unexpected author’s note:

“I decided while writing this contest entry to expand it into a full-length fic. Bella, Edward, and Cooch have been waking me up from sleep on a semi-routine basis lately, pounding on my brain to let them out! I’m not sure of the genre yet, but let’s just say it’s humor/drama/romance. Edward is one brooding mo-fo, and I plan on throwing in his POV from time to time.”

So ladies, allow this chapter to tease and tempt you – just like Edward teases Cooch – and  then be sure to put this fabulous story on alert.

*Skips away to switch off the auto-correct feature on my iPhone before I make an embarrassing faux pas.  On second thoughts,  maybe some day it might lead to me having my…blushes*

Reality and Other Inconveniences by OhMyWord

*Made by ysar*

*Made by ysar*

Reality and Other Inconveniences – Edward’s body was close, too close for sensible thought on my part. He watched me like he was waiting for an opening, my own personal loosening of morals.

Rated: Fiction M – English – Romance/Friendship – Bella & Edward – Chapters: 31 – Words: 74,251 – Reviews: 924 – Favs: 917 – Follows: 440 – Updated: 03-10-10 – Published: 08-06-09 – Status: Complete – id: 5281521

I don’t understand how I haven’t read this before because OhMyWord completed Reality and Other Inconveniences in 2010! I can’t believe I nearly missed out on this gem. It is beautifully written with such wit and the lightest touch, dealing with difficult circumstances and the humourous side of life with equal aplomb.

Bella inherits a creaky Old Victorian – which includes a possible ghost, maybe some mice, but definitely a tenant! Their initial meeting wasn’t ideal and her friends decide to help her out.

He was crass and rude and…and -,”

“Good looking?” Rose asked.

“That man is going to be absolutely unbearable.”

“Has anyone ever told you, you sound a little like Jane Austen when you’re mad?” She leaned back in her chair, her mother on one side, Alice on the other. We were on the back porch after another much too early walk-through of the house; renovations were beginning and I was doubly irritated. For the next two weeks I would be without a shower, two weeks being a rough estimate though Esme assured me it was unlikely to go over.

“I think you should give him a chance, if for nothing else than the desire for a civil landlord/tenant relationship,” Esme put both hands around her coffee mug.

“You didn’t see the way he looked at me…can’t I just evict him or something?” I thought back to the night before. I wondered if Edward automatically hated everyone on sight like that.

“I’m afraid not,” Esme answered.

“You should just go over there and talk to him,” that was Alice’s solution to everything and for her, had a staggering success rate. “He was probably just embarrassed, he can’t still be mad.”

“I wouldn’t doubt it.”

She grabbed my untouched cup of coffee and stood up, “we’ll come with you.”

That sounded worse than going alone. “No, it’s early…,”I was already standing up. I couldn’t articulate what the sway was that Alice held over people, but regardless, something like that should have been bottled and sold to the masses.

“So we’ll give him coffee, like a peace offering.” She tugged on my sleeve and motioned for Rose, who huffed lightly, but stood as well.

“Uh…,” Rose nudged me into coherency, “we brought you coffee.”

Alice handed it to him brightly, that same mischievous grin on her face as she eyed him with frank appreciation. “Hi, I’m Ali-,”

“Thanks,” he said before promptly shutting the door in our faces.

I gestured toward the door angrily. “See what I mean?”

Alice looked at the empty hand that had been holding the mug.

I turned away with Rose and walked down the porch steps. “I bet we could get him to move out,” she suggested.

“What did you have in mind?” I was all for it.

I heard Alice behind me, still on the porch. “Well, I just won’t stand for that.” She knocked five times in rapid fire succession.

I stage whispered, “Alice!” Like that was going to do any good. I rubbed a hand over my face; this was much too much for eight o’clock in the morning. Rose and I stayed in our semi hiding place at the foot of the stairs to listen because, despite the hour, this had the potential to be very interesting.

The door opened and I heard Edward mumbling something to do with working and then, though we couldn’t see to be sure, Alice waltzed right into his house. Rose looked at me and I looked at her and then we crept back up the stairs, dimwitted secret agent style. “I don’t hear yelling,” she commented.

We both jumped when the door swung open a moment later. “Well same to you!” She strode down the stairs in a huff and we obediently followed.

I heard Edward from the doorway, “that doesn’t even make sense!”

Alice’s cheeks were flushed in a way that only happened when she was angry; she was holding my partially emptied cup of coffee; she flicked her wrist and dumped it in the lawn.

“What the hell?” Rose broke the ice a moment later.

“I do not like that man. And yes, Bella, you can use my shower while they’re working on yours.”

OhMyWord cleverly builds the story through Bella’s experiences, with brief paragraphs recollecting her childhood, her mother, her friends. But, interestingly the occasional short chapter gives the reader glimpses of her mother’s gentle and encouraging friendship with her tenant, Edward. I can honestly say she’s one of my favourite Renees.

Overall, Reality and Other Inconveniences is a light story, dealing with life, death, love and friendship, but there are some delightfully poignant moments that had me sobbing out loud. It really was an unexpected treat and it’s already on my re-read list…and I’m about to hit up the rest of OhMyWord’s back catalogue!

For our readers who only read completed fics, here is a cache of stories that have been reviewed as Works-In-Progress here at FFF earlier this year, but now are complete!  Go forth and read!
