Lolo84 is a new-to-me author, but I suspect she is well-known to many of you. Her new story, ‘Unexpected’ might be new-to-you though, as the first chapter was published on ff.net and TWCS on the 2nd February. Already, we are five gripping chapters in.
Stories that deal with the particular hardships women all too often face are kind of my thing, as long as they deal with issues like abuse, domestic violence and rape honestly and with respect. I have no doubt that Lolo is going to write with insight and sensitivity about the awful situations both Bella and Edward have apparently faced. I can’t wait to find out what has happened in their pasts – and there are so many hints already – and how they are going to comfort each other eventually.
At first, Edward might appear to some to be aggressive and unyielding:
“Edward.”
I smile. “Yes, Angela, darling how can I help you?”
“Your sister’s on line two.”
I groan. I don’t feel like dealing with her right now. “Is it an emergency?”
“I didn’t ask. But if I try and send her away, we both know she’ll call again.”
“Fine.” I huff. “Send her through.” She dashes out of my office and seconds later, my phone is ringing. “Masen,” I answer gruffly.
“Edward! Hi, are you busy?”
“Yeah.” I lie. “I’m about to go into a meeting.”
“But it’s almost lunch time.”
I sigh. She knows I don’t schedule anything too important mid-day, which is a wonder why she bothered asking. “What can I do for you, Esme?”
“Sheesh, I just wanted to invite you over for dinner tomorrow.”
“Is your child of a husband going to be there?”
“Edward.”
“What? It was just a question.”
“He lives here—so, yes he’s going to be here.”
“Then no, sorry I can’t make it.”
Her response is immediate, as if she already knew what I was going to answer. “It’s really not fair you’re not even making an effort. He really wishes you guys could be friends you know. You live a barely five minute drive away—would it kill you to just come over and hang out sometime?”
“Not gonna happen.” I scoff.
“Edward, you and Carlisle are the two most important men in my life—the only men in my life. Can’t you at least try? For me?”
Of course he goes – and sets off a train of events he has absolutely no desire for. I can’t help thinking that this Edward is going to be one of my favourites. I hope you’ll join me in finding out.

Think Romeo and Juliet or Westside Story, add in the heartbreaking loss of one parent and the indifference of another, give it a good dose of Mississippi character and a sprinkling of pot, mix it up and there you have a recipe for an intriguing story of love across the great divide….or in this case, the Tennessee-Tombigbee River.
Dirty South Drug Wars opens with the grim reality of warring drug traffickers. The funeral of Charlie Swan; killed in retribution for the death of Edward Sr. The disbelief and shock of twelve-year-old Bella both palpable as she struggles to make sense of the situation, when two unwelcome visitors arrive to pay their respects and complicate her life further.
“You see that man, Isabella?” I heard my Uncle Aro whisper as he sat back down on the pew, scooting next to me. Following his harsh glare, my eyes landed on the blonde man who now stared directly at me, causing my heart to jump in my throat in shock.
“Yes, sir,” I replied quietly, in a low whisper, taking slow, deep breaths. The man now had his hand placed softly on the little boy’s shoulder and was bent slightly at the waist, whispering in his ear as well as they watched us, mirroring us. I wondered if they were having the same conversation that we were.
“That’s Carlisle Cullen,” he said quietly, indicating the blonde man who stood a short distance away. “That little boy is his nephew, Edward. Carlisle and the little boys’ father, Edward Sr., were brothers.” I nodded my understanding, my young mind mapping out the relationship of the two males standing nearby.
“Edward’s father died not too long ago and Carlisle raises the boy now as his own. Carlisle Cullen...he’s the king now, now that your daddy is gone,” my uncle mumbled, his dark eyes staring deeply into mine.
The meeting of Edward and Bella is so touching and remains a cherished but secret memory throughout her teens. As time jumps rapidly in the next couple of chapters, we’re introduced to various members of Bella’s family and shown her protective unwavering support of her sister Alice, lovely moments with Nana and her wild cousins, including a Kate you will love.
Despite the Swan / Cullen truce that the families stay on their respective sides of the Tenn-Tom River,
Kate persuades Bella that they’re in need of a good party and some male company……armed with the aliases of Cassie and Marie the girls cross the bridge….
Kate grasped my hand and we squealed as we topped the bridge. The lights from the barges were glowing softly below. Suddenly I felt free; it was a dangerous, foreign, yet addictive feeling, sort of like the feeling I had the first time I smoked weed. It was a feeling I could only get when I’d done something bad, dangerous, but utterly satisfying at the same time.
As we crossed that bridge, something deep within me told me that everything was about to change that night and nothing would ever be the same again.
…and she was right! Bella and Kate start something that night that is beyond their control and although the truce was broken before they drove across that bridge, the consequences of their actions quickly become apparent.
Although there is an underlying feeling of inevitable disaster, there are terrific light moments sprinkled throughout and so far my nominations for best supporting characters are Nana and Garrett! Told from Bella’s POV and at eight chapters in so far, Hoodfabulous clearly has a deep affection for the South and paints a picture so vivid I feel like I’ve taken a visit and dipped my toes in the Swan’s lake. Oh..and I definitely want to try a Moon Pie!
Updating on Mondays and Thursdays, Dirty South Drug Wars deserves some lovin’, so y’all make a date in your diaries!

Although Greye Granger is a fan fiction author of 10 stories for Twilight, I only recently found her when she drew me into her enjoyable writing style with her heartwarming Cowboyward story, Ride to You, which is now complete. And now I am reading her new compelling story, Shattered Hearts, which is one of my ‘drop everything to read the update’ fics!
Shattered Hearts is a story that deals with a sensitive subject: infidelity. But don’t panic…it’s not Edward or Bella cheating on each other in this deep storyline, it’s their spouses cheating with each other on Bella and Edward. Oh yes, it’s intense, heartbreaking, but oh so good!
We now have 6 chapters, and are only starting to get into the ‘heart’ of the matter. Bella Black is married to Jacob, and Edward Masen is married to Tanya, where it gets complicated is that Tanya is the new lawyer in Jacob’s office. And now, after some convert investigation on Bella’s part, Bella and then Edward, start to suspect that their spouses have much more than a ‘working relationship’…
Excerpt from chapter 3:
I sat straight as a board on one of the Masens’ deck chairs. My right hand nearly crushed the glass of brandy it held as I sipped more. The burn in my throat that the dark liquid caused was welcomed. Mr. Masen had put on a shirt, sadly. Although, it did allow me to concentrate better. He leaned back into his chair across from me and propped his right ankle up on his left knee. I swallowed hard.
“So, what is this about, Mrs. Black?”
“Call me Bella, please,” I blurted. He grinned. It was infectious.
“I’m here, Mr. Masen-“
“Edward, please,” he said, chuckling. I looked to the deck floor shyly.
“Edward,” I corrected. “I’m here because of my husband and your wife.”
“Yes?”
“Well,” I choked again. I couldn’t do it. I wanted to literally smack myself across the face. Instead, I dug in my leather bag, pulled out the receipt, and handed it to Edward forcefully.
His eyebrows crossed, but he unfolded the paperwork to read over it. His face never changed. It worried me.
“What am I supposed to be seeing?” he asked. My shoulders slumped. I took down more brandy, but part of the drink didn’t enter my mouth fully. I blushed and wiped my chin. Somehow I had become an idiotic woman that couldn’t speak.
“I’ve never been to Florida,” I said quietly. Edward didn’t catch on. “Read farther down,” I suggested. His pretty eyes went back to the paper.
“Tanya Black,” he stated. Then, he laughed. “Nice typo. But I don’t see why you came all this way to show me a small typo.” I sucked in a breath so deep that it almost made me dizzy all over again.
“Edward, I think our spouses are having an affair.”
Well, there you have it, two beautiful people are now ‘shattered’ as cruel reality drives a stake into their hearts…but do they easily accept it? No, it’s not that simple…it’s an emotional and heart-wrenching process for both of them to accept that ‘ultimate betrayal’ before they finally ally and decide that it’s time to find concrete evidence to corroborate their suspicions.
I am so excited for the next update! I won’t tell you why, you’ll have to read this intriguing and involved story for yourself to find out, but let’s just say… Tattward *swoon* and this lonely but strong Bella may be starting an adventure of their own! 😉 Enjoy, I know do!

And her most recently completed fic, "In the Debris" is one of my all-time favourite stories–stories, not fics. Believey is a breath-stealingly talented writer, and one of the sweetest people in the fandom.
Also completely hooked on Bedelia's "Beneath this Sky;" a seriously clever AU that balances beautifully drawn characters with an intriguingly complex plot.
Also, dreaminginnorweigen's "Marked Indelibly," which is a tenderly written Em/Rose fic. (With a wonderful Edward in the wings).
